More About "Mirror Gaze":
It’s been about two months since Sofia and Mike tragically lost their 11 year old daughter, and they’re trying to get on with their lives. This includes going to work to pay the bills. At night Sofia sees silhouettes in the mirror and hears her daughter’s voice. So while Mike is at work, she tries a ritual known as Mirror Gazing, hoping to know if her daughter is trying to reach her from the other side. During the ritual Sofia encounters a malevolent spirit, and it scares the crap out of her. That night when Mike gets home, Sofia isn’t sure how to talk about her experience that day. Thinking the ritual is a way to help Sofia, Mike tries it himself, hoping to connect with their daughter too. But Mike finds himself in the same nightmare Sofia did. And this time the evil spirit is too close for comfort.

@@sarahalouf337 nailed it!
I Loved This. It is a balance of a serious topic and a sheer horror story.
Grief is universal and one of the most profound griefs one can experience is the loss of a child. This film explores how we will seek many different ways to cope and come to terms with that grief. This was handled deftly in the film.
We then get the horror of a malevolent ghost. There is a "The Ring" girl vibe here but not enough to detract from the story.
I loved how the husband was willing to attempt to go on the processing journey the wife was on.
The two leads were convincing and the ghost was creepy.
Thanks are in order to Josh Nader and his crew and Alter for their platform we get to enjoy.
Peace.
Wow, Robert, you NAILED exactly what Josh, the writer / director, was going for. Very cool! So happy you enjoyed it.
Glad you were thinking I was creepy! I love the ring movie actually, she’s a great reference
It was a blast working on this film with the rest of our amazing crew and wonderful cast. Thanks to Alter for premiering and showcasing our team's hard work. We hope you enjoy our little horror short!

👍🏾 AMAZING WORK, Joshua, crew and cast!!! I love this!!!
Oh man you did a really good job with this, hope to see more from you in the future
I like that the husband is non-judgmental and encourages her to try anything, which causes the viewer to assume the visions are hers alone. It's the perfect set up. And I always like the suggestion that s psychic effort might have backfired, releasing something dangerous.
AMAZING job!
Since watching *The Dollmaker* I've been somehow obsessed watching and waiting for your next upload of short films. *I just love how mind blowing Alter's stories is.*

This film has a good subtle combination of drama, emotion and horror. Each element compliments the others well without taking away from each other 👍🏾

Pain of a mother, and extreme of fear...gt goosebumps when the soul of her daughter chased.what a balanced approach...LOVE FRM INDIA
That was excellent. No BS. I seen The Exorcist when it first came out in the early 70s. The figure walks rapidly towards her and she screams. Not too many movies give me goosebumps. This did.
That means a lot to hear, Alan. That's exactly the kind of affect we were going for when filming it.
Wow this is great to hear, glad i spooked you
At the end when the screen turn black I see my reflection and that was the scariest thing . Because I was watching while lying down in the bed and there were some clothes behind me which in my phone looked like the same ghost in the movie 😅😱😅😱😅😱😅

@@anujamanjul ❤️❤️
Just wondering what happened to Rachel?
I like that the ghost is real because a lot of its in your head stuff be making no sense when the plot confirms an actual movement. This one was stuck in the middle until the husband confirms it. Interesting short for so lil time. Issue is the entity seems to have harmful intentions but its not fully confirmed. Its left to speculation which means endless variables of its meaning. Might need a part 2 here.
Appreciate you being so thoughtful about it! A feature film version is in the works 😅
Couldn’t agree more, part 2!!
Eww
I know how dangerous Mirror Gazing is. You can also do it when others are in the room and when you are not calling a dead one. But also when you do it where people are it will have a affect to your normal life. Mirror Gazing is more scaryer than the most scaryest movies. When you noticed that it will also follow you when you are not in front of a mirror.

Don't worry about it Igor💖💝 We are all Alter Family. We know what you mean 🤗🤗😍
Short stories!? Not movie length feature films here.
Your English is fine, no need to worry. I agree a lot of the films would make good full length features.
This has to be my favourite short film for a while on Alter. Short and scary and nails where it needs to hit. The ghost marching out towards her was a much much loved scene! Please do give us more of such shorts! I personally think this one needs to be a full-length feature.
@Pooja Dutta thank you for your encouraging words. Josh and I are actually working on a feature film version as we speak 😅. Stay tuned for more Mirror Gaze.
that line early on... "whatever it is, I will get ridiculous with you." was super sweet. I dunno, it's probably corny too, but it touched me here. was surprised.
Yay that's exactly what Josh Nadler, the writer / director was going for. So glad that worked for you!
@@dansima2347 :) i've since realized, it was entirely about the actor's delivery. It came off as utterly sincere.
@@matycee I totally agree. @Clayton Farris is super talented.
The corridor scene is amazing. Very claustrophobic. For that alone,... well done!
Really appreciate that @Filipe Duarte! A lot of work, from camera and lighting, to hair and makeup, to score and sound design, went into pulling that off. Happy to hear you felt the claustrophobia!!
I LOVE ghost stories. Good ones. Believable ones. At 53 yrs old I've become somewhat immune to the typical stories of today... the cheezy CGI, spirit boxes, evps, knocks, etc. This zeroed right in and scared the shit outta me! Bravo! Thank you. Seriously...⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐➕
Oh....Fantastic use of lighting and shadows BTW! I'm no film critic but that stood out beautifully to me.
Thank you for thoughtfully watching in. We had a brilliant cinematographer, Jonathan Pope, who helped us pull off that lighting effect. So glad you enjoyed it!!
I am completely and utterly in love with your channel!!! I am a HUGE HORROR BUFF AND THE WAY YOU CAN PORTRAY SOMEONE'S THOUGHTS, FEARS, DESIRES.... AND TURN IT INTO A HORROR SHORT IS AMAZING!!!
This movie is scary because, it makes a lot of sense... I love it
You totally get it 😀 Thanks for that!!
What makes sense? I am still trying to figure out what this is about other than parents missing their child.
@@SIPEROTH the part where she actually opens a doorway to or from the other dimension. The problem you creating a doorway is that, we don’t know what other entities can come through that.. that’s what happened here.. not to blame the parents of course, a mother would do anything to see her baby again.. but there is a lot about the other world or dimension that we don’t know or understand..

@@ravenclawplayz1702 Thank you, sir!!
Man, those extremely wide shots within such a tight space are both stunning and startling, great work. I somehow hear the cha-ching-ing of money in every frame of this short.
Haha Michael yeah pulling off shots like that aren't cheap but we were really lucky to have an amazing cinematographer, Jonathan Pope, who helped us accomplish those shots on a relatively shoestring budget.
@@dansima2347 Tremendous. It's madly impressive in any case, but however, whomever made the series of nuanced choices that resulted in the shots mentioned is/are fabulously gifted, with talent seconded only by the premium quality of this final product. Mad, mad props.
@@MichaelFrazierTube your words truly mean a lot. @joshua nadler was the writer / director, so I'll forward those mad props along to him 😀
Excellent horror short, one of the best on Alter...a strong, complete story in 9 minutes delivering some genuine horror and scares...I liked the beige sepia tones that emphasised how life and colour had gone from this couple's lives....and a warning that trying to contact the dead is always fraught with danger because you don't know who or what else might want to contact you...
Wow @clarsach29 you have a very astute eye. We put a lot of emphasis on the colors, both from a cinematography and color correction standpoint. So glad you picked up on that. Thanks for watching!!
In my opinion, this is a perfect horror film. Well-acted, atmospheric, terrifying, and no gore! Would love to see more films this good!
Wow @Kel Conway that feedback really means that a lot. That's exactly what the writer / director @joshua nadler and I were going for. Please share with other fans 😅

Alter doesn't make them, they just release them.
3:38 to 3:40, she has a folder on her desktop titled "Not real but I'm desperate", that's really sad. Like the dollmaker, the couple try to connect with their dead child. Overall a good watch. Thank you Alter, with yet another lockdown in our city coupled with work from hell, horror movies are the only thing that keeps my mind distracted.

Let the dead be dead and in peace or invite them to come play. Loved it
I hear you, Stacy. The things grief will drive us to...
The ghost replies to the question if it's rachel with "No", so who is this ghost?? So scary. My theory is that Rachel has passed on, is not a ghost and in a peacefull place, but the ritual has brought some other ghost, that has trouble with making peace. Also, i know that at the end of rituals it is bad to blow out candles, you have to either pinch the flame with fingers or cover the candel till the flame goes out. So i am not sure, but maybe it's some kind of indicating detail
Really insightful of you @frank riuk. Thanks for giving it a watch!! Josh and I are working on the feature film version as we speak. More answers to come 😱😅

Nice work, feels like an episode that should get a part two! Very emotional and creepy, but in a dramatic/psychological way. Actors did a good job playing the grieving parents. My guess: the ghost they summoned was not Rachel, but something with ill intentions 😢

Two points: The actress has a resembalance to Madeleine Stowe; Once the mom heard a snarl from the direction of the mirror, she should have quit and called a priest, this a bigger situation than she could handle...

Yaaay Kim so glad you got a scare out of it!
Scary stuff. Great job!! Enjoyed this.
So glad you enjoyed it, Justin!! 😎
Super good film short , it seems her mom was more scared of something other than just normal grief & if the child died for something she had done or the dad that evil would have manifested itself around them which here it has as what she brought back was not the child but something evil bent on revenge using the form of the child . If not the kid would have not been malevolent & bent on getting back as it seems to be doing . Love the way this leads us to that realm we should not mess with unless your knowledgeable in the occult as what you bring back is usually never what you thought it would be. Once it's there your done for . Lesson one, leave things as they are unless you did something bad & try & fix it cause you can't .
This story absolutely gave me CHILLS! GREAT WORK GUYS!!!
