Since I graduated in 1975 Amboy Dukes I listen to and it was Heavy Music in the 70s it's great to see this video again uncle Ted at work when he was a young man
Not too long after the Dukes disbanded I had the pleasure of seeing Ted Nugent band play live here in San Diego . Him stepping out on stage & just playing his ass off in front of a giant stack of amps while his hair seemed to be blowing forwards from the power of the amps & his guitar have stayed with me my entire lifetime so far . I’m only a couple months away from turning 64 & just wanna say “ Thanks Ted “ 😎👍
Saw Ted back in area high schools during the _Survival Of The Fittest_ days. I recall my ears ringing for a week after one show. Got told to sit down, because I was right in front of Uncle Ted on stage with my elbows on the stage with hands under my head. He truly was a guitar force of nature back then. Lost on today's crowd how great he was. By the 80's, everyone else caught up to him, and his virtuosity on guitar sort of slid into oblivion.
What a performance. Such fabulous musicians. I was born in 1964 and remember the Amboy Dukes very well. Uncle Ted is looking as mild mannered here as I ever remember seeing him.😄
I saw Ted shoot his guitar with a bow in concert in 2003 or so .... I was too far back in the audience to see it well enough, but I pretty much could bet he didn't shoot this one! :)

I've seen how Nugent treats people face-to-face, and it shattered any illusions I had that talent somehow equals consideration for others. It's 1974, and a 40-ish woman who was attracted to him had the Madman comment loud enough so everyone in the vicinty knew, "I don't fuck my mother's friends!" Always charming, isn't he? He once said, "I'm Rosa Parks with a Gibson guitar."

Man, this is my favorite Amboy Dukes song, never thought I'd get to see this band play this so expertly. Not a bad recording at all for the day. Thank You!!!
So grateful to see this clip. I was born in 1963 and grew up in Nashville. Had a friend (of Arab descent) who migrated from Detroit when I was in middle school - hence my fascination with the Detroit rock music scene - MC5, The Stooges, Alice Cooper, and all things Uncle Ted. I used to go off dancing to Stranglehold. I'm guessing parents tuning in to this PBS broadcast took one look at Ted and assumed he's on drugs and is going to destroy our children. Here we are 53 years later when gender dysphoria is all the rage, and Ted is just down to earth.
Ted's so down to earth.......... On stage in a loin cloth on video spraying river banks with full auto weapon fire preaching save the environment shilling for the NRA and can't even blame any of it on drug abuse. Yup that's one grounded dude.
I'm 71 and I saw the Dukes at a club called Rainy Daze in St. Louis County, MO. Great show! Also got to see Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop and the Stooges, and Rush there all before they got huge. Those were the days!
First saw Nugent in 1975, Long Beach Arena. He opened for Blue Oyster Cult & Kansas. We on the west coast hadn't heard of him then. We certainly did after that.
Forgot how much I like this song. Saw them numerous times at Rainy Daze in St. Louis County, Missouri circa '68-'69. Thank you for this upload, great live performance.
Just turned 73, grew up in Detroit, and have been hoping a video this good would turn up since UA-cam first came online. If only a live video of Scottish Tea could be unearthed! I saw the Dukes several times at the Grande Ballroom and around town. The first time at the Grande was absolute magic! While we waited, I heard the 60Hz hum of an instrument being plugged into an amp, and then the roar of the mighty Byrd, sounding like Godzilla was ready to burst through the curtain! Hendrix, Beck and Page did feedback - nobody but Ted made a guitar sound like a huge Japanese monster! (For the uninitiated, check out the beginning of Loaded For Bear…) A big thing back then was Clapton’s ‘woman tone’. Yeah, I loved it - Sunshine of Your Love - great stuff! But have you ever heard anything creamier than Ted’s tone in the main melody of Migration? And the BB King-inspired vibrato? Gorgeous. He had amazing technique for his age and the time period. IMO, the Amboy Dukes days represented a high point for Ted’s melodic soloing creativity that wasn’t matched nearly often enough in his subsequent solo career. (There were high points and good songs later on - no denying that.) Also great to see Andy Solomon, Dave Palmer and Greg Arama in the spotlight in this video. He was very much ahead of the curve on bass in the late 60s! R.I.P. Greg.
I used to see them out at Davison. Sherwood Forest. Seen Nugent more times than I can count back in the day. He was as good a guitarist at that time as anyone on the planet. I am 73 as well
I was born in 71 so this was my first experience on the Dukes. I had heard of them, but never heard them. Great soloing by Ted, and being a bass player for 40 years, my hats off to Greg for sure. Making 3 strings sound that gòod.
Takes me back to the agora mid seventies Cleveland Ted Nugent the Amboy dukes Bob Seger and the silver bullet band it Rocked Baby never too old✌️❤️bro.
I saw Glass Harp open up for the Amboy Dukes at the Agora in Columbus, around 1970. I went for Ted, but was also blown away by Phil Keaggy, who I’d never heard of before that night. I can still hear the sweet volume swells on Phil’s Les Paul from that show! What a night for guitar lovers!
Ted often said that Phil Keaggy was "the only guitarist that makes me sweat." Phil became a born again Christian and still plays in Christian bands today.
In 2003, I watched THE DC VIDEO by DC Shoes, and the part where skater Anthony Van Engelen rode to “Stormtroopin’” hit me hard. That day, I must’ve replayed it 20 times. Shortly after, I visited my uncle, who had a Les Paul in his attic. He gave it to me, and I became obsessed with learning that song, barely sleeping but loving every moment. Now, at 36, I still jam to it like it’s the first time, and I’m teaching my 3-year-old daughter how to play guitar. Thanks, Ted!

I remember buying the Migration album on intuition. Prodigal Son really knocked me out. Very underated group. Marriage on thr Rocks is also a brilliant album.
I saw ted at a Colorado Sunday concert, with heart, ufo, and the cars, around 1980. When he played great white Buffalo, there was a huge white thunderhead cloud that looked like a white Buffalo. Magic times back then
This video of Ted reminds me of a race horse wanting to run but is hobbled. I saw Ted live in Seattle in 1978 where he came out on stage swinging on a rope from standing on a mountain of Marshall Amps wearing only a loin cloth like Tarzan! And ROCKED like the wild man he is. God bless Ted Nugent, and God bless the United States of America!
Ted used MADE IN USA Fender Super Twins when you saw him. Here he using a Fender Twin Reverb amp. Would have sounded better with a MADE IN UK Marshall. This is the longest video of Ted not saying anything.. must have been killing him.
That was Teds Signature entrance during those Monsters of Rock tours. I saw him do that same thing. He played with Cheap Trick, AC/ DC and BOC In the Oakland Coliseum. It was amazing and loud.
His playing goes in areas few expect. His personality and politics eclipse his guitar. He has major chops. I have seen Ted play well over 15 times. He has great energy and rock fury, and he is a smart fellow. He has skills.
Hey Ted - is there a repair or something in the cutaway of your Byrdland in those days? That is the 62 right? What is the dark spot or shadow in there? It seems visible in several lighting angles

@@richardclark. It's one helluva song , id even say a masterpiece ! that whole album is killer , Lady Luck reminds me of Michigan when i was young and strong .
@bmart5353 Yes they did . Your remark is noteworthy. I remember on another vintage video and I addressed an obviously young commenter who talked about how sloppy the camera work and how bad the mix was and that included cumbersome psychedelic manipulations. I enlightened him about how a lot of those people were from the World War II generation and that they didn’t understand rocknroll and all its genres and many didn’t respect the music or musicians. Let the music do the talking😊
From this one song, I can hear at least 3 Ted Nugent songs that had evolved from this when Ted went Solo.
Ted Nugent really is an amazing musician.
Hibernation, Stranglehold and....?
Homebound? I hear that in the begining of this jam, even in the opening bass riff...
I was thinking the same.
Cat scratch fever
I'm 55yo. Never saw this footage before....
From Michigan and feel blessed by this classic rock and leisure suit leather...whoop whoop !!! Love me some Uncle Ted
Magic times back then
incredible talents in all players...
I stayed up with my older brother my parents were sleeping my brother was so cool watching tv,rip my brother 😢
Groovy man🌼🍄
I saw this lineup in St Petersburg Florida, New Years 1970. Great show!
@24meandyounothing I wonder how Ted would've sounded with a Hiwatt stack. That's be interesting.
That was Teds Signature entrance during those Monsters of Rock tours. I saw him do that same thing. He played with Cheap Trick, AC/ DC and BOC In the Oakland Coliseum. It was amazing and loud.
I also witnessed the the Young Ted in Lakeland, FL 1979 with my friend Mr. Natural. The Tarzan entry blew my mind.
Nugent played fender amps.
Beautiful song. Never heard this before thank you 🤙
Dare I say it, Ted sounds faintly jazzy here, and he's wearing that Byrdland pretty high up. A far better guitarist than some people want to believe.
His playing goes in areas few expect. His personality and politics eclipse his guitar. He has major chops. I have seen Ted play well over 15 times. He has great energy and rock fury, and he is a smart fellow. He has skills.
Maestro
Grew up in Brightmoor , the Amboy Dukes and my bondo and duct taped chevy...it didn't get much better !!!!
Thanks Uncle Ted!
Amboy dukes the start of the magical mystery tour, and its still rockn the roll these days, thanks for the decades of fine fine play'n
Nice Fro Ted!!
Hey Ted - is there a repair or something in the cutaway of your Byrdland in those days? That is the 62 right? What is the dark spot or shadow in there? It seems visible in several lighting angles
I grew up on Grand River and Shaefer, my opinion is that Tooth, Fang and Claw will never be topped, an absolute masterpiece of Detroit rock !
Edit : masterpiece of Rock . . . . period !
I grew up on Dix and Champaign, Lincoln Park, Tooth Fang and Claw is awesome.
The first time i heard Hibernation i was 14 yo and baked. i knew my life had been changed forever... i am now 58 and i was right!
@@richardclark.

@@TheRydog61 - Dix and Champaign, hey? I grew up on steak and potatoes... haha... just fuckin around, I'm local too... cheers, man!
What a musical journey!
You always brought the energy and attitude to kick some ass. Cheers!
Great stuff Ted, Thanks!. Was your aunt Marion Nugent. My Step dad married her and that was the story I heard. Michiganders here.
Love this 💕
I skipped the senior prom in 1970 to see these guys in Lorain, Ohio. Thanks so much for the flashback.
Always playing that Byrdland!
Good Lord!!! That was absolutely magnificent! Thank you so much for sharing that treasure with we, the unworthy!!
The mix for a 1970 pbs tv show is pretty darn good. Someone knew what they were doing.
There were lot of bad TV productions
Except that they mic'ed the bass cabinet instead of D.I.'ing it. Still sounds great and very bassy! Ted could be louder!
@@FlipDahlenburg Yes this was filmed at the tv studio, channel 33 WITF,a very hip PBS station in Chocolate Town Hershey Pa !! That very same year,I believe, Leslie West and Mountain also played at "The Show" as it was called then...very cool.
Wow!!! Priceless!! Have the folks at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame seen this!!!!
Wish I could have seen this at the Grande Ballroom
Saw them at the Grande, East Town and Cobo.
Ears are still ringing- how sweet it is! 😁
Ted all decked out in his finest and doing his thing , love you Ted and the stranglehold of great music youve had me in since the 70s ✝️💜🧂🪖🇺🇸
