Now armenia is crying about Azerbaijan taking its land back 3 decades later and that the 1 million Azeris who were exiled are returning to their homes. Those armenians who fled were literally living on stolen Azeri homes for 3 decades. They even set them on fire out of spite before leaving as they didn't want the original Azeri owners to take their homes back.

Therefore according to a legislation of USSR it didn't have a right to vote for separation like autonomous REPUBLICS did. So 1. NG violated USSR law when it voted. 2. Voting had conducted only amongst ethnic Armenians of NG, ethnic azeris and other inhabitants remained outside of voting. 3. In 1990-1994 Republic of Armenia with the help of Russia and by the hands of Armenians of NG killed and expelled all (about million) azeris not only from NG, but also from 7 surrounding provinces where ethnic Armenians never lived and weren't even in minority. Before this, Armenia had killed and expelled about 250-300 thousands of azeris from Armenia (not even from NG).

I do not believe that there is any correlation, and that it is simply a symbol of anti-French influence, due to France's negative relations with Azerbaijan.

I think there is more to this story. Since the Russians let Azerbaijan take Nagorno-karabakh (because of Armenia's increasing support to the west), and France's increased support for Greece, Russia and Turkey are using Azerbaijan to do their dirty work in the remaining colonies of the west, and at the same time to not escalate the situation between Russia, Turkey and the west.
