The image of the Woman and the Dragon is metaphorical. None of the Book of Revelation is any predictor of any specific future event -- only the assurance of God's eventual deliverance of His persecuted Church.

The Woman symbolizing Israel is one of a few possible interpretations. As Israel gave birth to the Church through Jesus, I am not sure the twelve stars symbolize the Apostles, but more likely the Tribes of Israel. This is one of those images in Revelation that I think one can have a little "fun" discussing the possibilities as to what it means, provided, of course it is conducive to the Christian faith.
