    Update; A lot of people have rightly asked whether the machine can be used without logging in. Perhaps in the advent that AtGames servers are taken down in the future, etc... So I contacted AtGames and this was their response; "Yes it can totally be used without signing in. You can use the built in games and OTG mode to connect a Pi or PC and play games that way. You only have to log in for online play and services, as well as log in once every 5 times you power on the device to use AddOn X and CoinopsX (COX). As to if the online services go away, I don't know what we could say there. We have no intentions of shutting online capabilities down. We're very online oriented. I guess if we completely had to leave the online world, we'd have a solution that would always be to the benefit of the consumer."
    My view on this is that, I guess they could potentially remove the Addon/COX modes at their own discretion (if they were hit with a lawsuit for example), even if you opt out of future firmware updates. This would still allow us to plug in a Pi to the HDMI, and use CoinOPs/RetroArch via that route. BUT that's not ideal. Plus, worst case, if the company were to fold, then I *highly* doubt they would make firming up of existing machines a priority. So this is worth bearing in mind if you're looking for a standalone future proof solution.
    On the flip side. The community is outstanding, and I have little doubt that it would be hacked and restored to former glory in no time.
    There are some excellent channels that cover the Legends Ultimate;
    PDubs Arcade Loft - ua-cam.com/users/patrickwalton11
    Restalgia - ua-cam.com/channels/-rS0donnV8wupjW2Vzrlnw.html
    CoolToy - ua-cam.com/users/cooltoy
    These are the kind of channels that help form the backbone of the retro community, so be sure to check them out and say "Hello there". If you're in the UK you can grab a cabinet from Liberty Games at nnerd.es/legends, unfortunately, us Brits pay more due to shipping & import charges (it feels like the 90s again). In the US, they're available from several retailers. I'm unsure about the rest of the world. You'll find some other useful links in the description.

      On one hand, it's more than the pieces of silicon that make it up. A hypothetical homebrew RasPi solution (probably) doesn't have licensed games, and a bill of materials for the timber, monitor, RasPi etc doesn't include the time and effort you put into making it work. So I don't think "processor X is slower than processor Y" is a useful comparison.

    Wow, the price on this is crazy high in your neck of the woods. In the US, this typically goes for $500-$600 (~£359-£431 when directly converted), depending on where you get it from, what's included, and if it's on sale or not. For the US price, I'd say it's a good deal, especially if you connect a PC, Raspberry Pi, or MiSTER up to it.
    I also looked into how much it would cost to put one together by buying the parts myself, and as someone who isn't a woodworker, the cheapest solutions with good components would cost just as much if not more than one of these at the US MSRP. And those DIY solutions wouldn't even have the spinners and trackball like this does!

  • @Xaltar_
    @Xaltar_ 3 роки тому +1

    You could plug in your PS or Xbox with an HDMI cable as well as the USB link cable and play whatever you want using the cab controller and display, am I wrong?
    If so, then when you treat is as an arcade control board + display it isn't actually that expensive. A decent arcade joystick/controller board with a decent IPS 24" display will already run you about half the cost of this thing, then add the built in emulation hardware, cabinet and features and it's actually pretty reasonable for what it is. IMO they should make a separate model that is just that, a display and controller cabinet that you can fit your own system inside, be it a console, Pi or a PC with emulation software etc. That would probably sell really well, particularly if you can swap out the controllers with other modular ones.

    I feel quite lucky with mine. Here in Spain, for 500 euros including delivery. I got a full sized arcade cabinet, with CRT old school screen. The cabinet is an original old games cab from what looks like the early 90s. It looks a little worn but thats all part of it! Its got coin slot (though that bit isnt functioning). Its got new buttons, and a "insert coin button". I had to fix some wiring and put a new bulb in for the marquee above.
    Its driven by a JAMMA pandoras box 4s with 999 games. A simple games selection menu. It doesnt connect online so dont need to register any accounts etc. It feels as authentic as it gets. I love it! Its got some classics, but missing a few would nice to haves. But the ROMs are hard coded so i dont think i can change them. (at least i dont know how to). It has one single speaker which I have wired a volume control to.
    I think i got a good deal. I know these pandoras box's arent using licensed ROMs though.

      I really like the review of this cabinet and I wished I had had this cabinet instead of its ugly stepchild (don't scream) Arcade 1UP.
      If you just have to have an arcade cabinet, or lack the technical or building skills to make one, than this is a solid choice for people looking for that nostalgia experience.
      But with that being said, I and many others have taken those red headed stepchildren and supercharged them with old PC's (I3/I5/Raspberry Pi) and THAT is where concepts like this shine!!!
      An old PC, copy of MAME and a Maximus front-end and you got a beast that can do anything you want. Plus the benefit of not needing "patching" unless you change MAME versions. But in that case, you can either use good tools to patch, or use different versions of MAME that work fine.
      And this is NOT a debate over piracy as many of us own PC and console rom compilations and arcade machines. Look, a hand made machine is legal as you get as long as you don't sell the machine with Roms. If you make money with this, yes it is wrong but the vast majority of "rom users" have no intention of making profit, we just love retro gaming and companies don't have rom compilations to just sell.
      So while this is a good attempt at selling a quasi legal classic games machine, it's hardware is just like Arcade 1UP's and both at least competently run games, the @tgames is the better choice both in build quality, and options. And for what you are getting, you are at least getting an arcade game you do not have to spend a huge amount of effort setting up. So a good retro cabinet for the first time retro gamer. And a good choice for even more seasoned retro gamers or home arcade owners.

At that time there simply weren't that many of those types of machines out there. I eventually spent another £200 or so upgrading the buttons and sticks and replacing the board with an old spare PC running MAME, which made it a much better machine. The TN monitor isn't amazing compared to modern IPS displays, but it's good enough.
      I've also added a separate USB trackball and a Spinner as add-on controllers I can use for other games.
      I've also imported at great expense an Arcade 1-Up Star Wars machine as can't get them in the UK (Star wars is my favorite arcade game). That's one thing a multicade can't really do, as you need the yoke controller, which just won't easily fit onto a multicade panel, so there is a place for certain Arcade 1Up machines.

    Ouch, in the States the retail price is $600 USD, which is ... 445 GBP today. And realistically I would buy it at one store that sells it for $500 with included bonus pinball buttons on the side. Quite a different value proposition at half the price...

    I'm glad they have physical volume buttons. It would be really nice if it had a dial too (dials likely fail faster than buttons, so having both would be nice) and a mute button. A mute button is nice if someone knocks on your door or your phone rings or you hear a sound that you need to pay attention to.

    I looked at Christmas Gift ideas and bought the Mrs Pacman Table for my granddaughter. I really liked the idea for myself too. I remember those tables from when I was a kid with Dig Dug. I ended up buying a Mortal Kombat table to have something a little different, then got Street Fighter 2 and Terminator 2 and I have a Dig Dug Machine on the way. I'm running out of space unless I make some changes in that room. I may end up getting this all in one game as well. Not sure yet. I still like the idea of several arcade games where people can play the game of choice. If you only have on unit, people end up standing around watching one guy play or taking turns. It's also nice to have the T2 stand alone machine or to walk up and play Pacman and Galaga without having to let the machine power up 10min and sort through so many games. I can see having it as a part of the collection though.

    Quite a nice looking cabinet and bigger than the 1-Up versions, you can't beat the real deal or at least a close approximation of a full sized arcade cabinet. But a Raspberry Pi 4/400 is a faster (and more widely supported software-wise) than the SoC supplied. The software setup currently seems convoluted and you are tied into their ecosystem when adding games.

    Hi. Just found your channel while reserching this cabinet. I am not a gamer as such and hate new modern games. But do love the old ones. And am thinking the unit would luke good in my man cave. I am gratfull that you talked about weather the unit would work without a internet connection or not as I will proberly not bother with connecting it up. I did origanally look at the games coffie table on Liberty Games web site. I read that all the games have to be streemed from there web site and the unit does not come with any games. I was worried that if anything happens to Liberty Games that lets say in 10 years time if the web site goes down then the table whould be usuless. I put this to Liberty Games. They did not get back to which makes me think that I was correct. So this will be the unit for me I think. Thank You very much for the review.

Bran new ones run you about 3,000 to 5,000 thousand pesos depending on the set up so about 100 to 250 dollars.
