This is an amazing video! It never made sense to me why after max stress that the strain would increase as the stress decreased but that was a perfect explanation.
Thank you...my "graduated" ass couldn't figure out why the graph shows decreasing stress.. it's calculating the stress on that very area where the necking happens. So area becomes less, stress becomes more. And the whole thing is based on behaviour of strain on application of stress, so there should be a steady increase of stress. WHY STRESS SUDDENLY DROPS AFTER ULTIMATE TENSILE STRENGTH.
@@TheSarcasticClown brug , its total stress by total strain bro so even though its pinching in the middle and the area is decreasing there we still calculate the stress w.r.t to the original cross section , or another way to think of it is after ultimate.. the force applied at the ends of the rod is decreasing but because its pinched cross section is also decreasing at a higher rate the net stress on that particular section is increasing.
better explanation than any institute
I've been taught this concept many times, but this was the best explanation. Thank you for the informational video!
Khan academy is the wonderful thing....you are changing world ...guys
i didn't imagine this topic to be interesting at all. thank you for making it super easy and clear to us! 🙏
Never thought this topic is so interesting. Thanks!

I like khan academy
that pinching or necking gave me my first "OHHHHH SO THATS WHY" moment of this lesson
thank you for this very clear explanation!!
Awesome explanation. Neat to the point. ✌️
best explanation
Damn ths guys exp so gud . It makes the companies look goofy 🤪
Thank you sir
Stress keeps on increasing?
But the curve shows decreasing stress?

Thanks for the video!
I didn't understand necking , but thanks sir ❤
