👏👏 Love it! They need Study Classics about ancient Greece and Rome in history. All students are in class room in school need to get answer full marks on ancient Greece and Rome in history. They need teacher and show them what ancient Greece and Rome. That was wonderful story about "Why Study Classics?" I hope they take a picture this place.
I think my generation (born 1969) was the first for centuries in England not to have to do Latin. My dad did it in the 1930s at his grammar school. I assume Wilson and the Labour Party felt classics were too elitist, so at my comprehensive French was required instead. Something is definitely lost, I think, but on the other hand are 11 year olds really going to be keen to study any foreign language!?
the rest of the world for most of history was a cesspool of mass genocides and licentiousness, and very few works have come out of them that are worth reading.
I mean I think he made it pretty clear he thinks people in the western world should read the classics and see how it influences their society. People in China should probably read the Four Books and Five Classics, and I’d imagine people in India should probably read the Mahabharata to understand how it influences their culture. I will say though, I don’t think it would hurt anyone to read any of the classics throughout various cultures, no matter the point of origin. I like me some Analects but I can also appreciate Marcus Aurelius ya kno?
Thank you for joining us on our journey of the Classics!
