what specific regulator did you use? Because you don't have a first stage, and are using a high volume compressor, the regulator has to be adjustable to the low pressure. @@roadstar499 I have only used to whole unit (pump in the tote sitting on the pvc tank) once. All the other times not feeling like hauling everything in I took just the tote with the pump. So honestly, I can't say for certain. Personally, my plan when I use it this season is to allow the tank to charge up with air a little bit before diving. As for installing the release valve, that was simple. I just drilled the hole slightly smaller than the threads and then screwed it in. Put some marine adhesive sealant around it and called it good!
@@GreenMountainGoldTrap very cool...I should get my pump in a couple of days and do some testing ..last night I figured out how to adjust regulator, which seems to be a big factor in performance, some guys using same pump say 5 foot is the limit, but this other guy has a video of him at 30 feet and he used same boy u 160 120 watt with cheap yellow reg(which he adjusted) ..he said at 30 foot I was pretty hard to breath but 23 foot was fine...thanks for all your feed back. .
Perhaps because I am accustomed to a Scuba tank, I find the flow from this pump to be really unsatisfying. I am able to draw breath, but not fill my lungs as quickly as I am used to, even at rest and at the surface. I am not sure if my pump is defective or if my expectations are too high. Not sure what could go wrong with the pump, it seems pretty simple. I have not built the air tank yet.
Hi Gregory. No, I as well have no idea but without the tank I agree with what you have said. I myself have never used a scuba tank so I can't say I know the difference. With the tank it's better but again, I don't know the volume a scuba tank gives in comparison to what I have. What I plan on doing is switching the tank out with an aluminum tank that will have more capacity than the one I built. I need it to be light weight.
@@GreenMountainGoldTrap I have been thinking of options for an accumulator tank - today I'm thinking of one of those plastic garden sprayers. Cheap and won't rust.
@@gvaughan67 I wonder how well they would hold up under the pressure of a pump. They are made for it but, how much is the question. Harbor Freight has an aluminum tank that eventually I will take a look at.
great video. I plan to build a Hookah similar to what you did. I have a choice of aeration pumps with capacity: 3000l / H, 3600l / H, 5100l / H, 7500l / H, 8400l / H. Which will be optimal? Will the 3600l / H pump be optimal? What battery do you have and how long does it last? Have you considered the option of a pressure sensor and when exceeded, the pump is turned off, and when it is lowered, it turns on? or does he have to work all the time?
Thanks GS Creative! Not sure on the 3600l / H pump. Don't know anything about them really! I got the Boyu pump because another person did a video on it and it worked. I bought 2 Dakota Lithium batteries. Each one lasts 1:29 min on a full charge. They ran me $99 each and the charger was about the same price. I do want to upgrade and add a pressure sensors but have not yet so for now it runs constant. I did add the 100psi pressure release valve just in case.
Thanks Lee! you are 100% correct. Eventually I plan on modding it a bit. That being one of the mods. Also adding quick connects for the air line and possibly a switch so I don't have to hook the wires to the battery each time.
It appears that the battery lasts 90 minutes if running nonstop. I'd assume that once you get a regulator setup put on it where it can shut off when it gets up to pressure that it could last even longer when running intermittently? I've been going over options for months of how to do this safely. Reading on the internet gives so much info that I became leary of using pvc pipe as the air tank. Now harbor freight has a 7 gallon aluminum filling tank for about 65 dollars that I'd considered to use as the air reservoir while still using PVC as a floating table. Would love to brain pick you.
Thanks Shawn! I tested length of charge on the batteries I purchased from a full charge. The run time was 89 minuets. Feel free to ask questions. I will do my best to answer. And please do tell, what did you discover on pvc? And would aluminum be any safer? Just so happens we have a Harbor Freight opening very soon here. Still under construction but my step son is one of the assistant Mngrs.
@@GreenMountainGoldTrap now aluminum is best because it wont rust and is pure so it wont corrode and is much lighter as well. No one would want to really use an air tank made of steel when the inside corrodes over time and sprays out rust water from the release valve.
@@shawnjones8748 I'm guessing scuba tanks must be made from aluminum. I'm going to have to look into changing it out once Harbor Freight opens up. One of the important things I have seen from others who are underwater sniping... Use ear plugs to avoid water getting into your ears and avoiding ear infections. Tassie Boys Prospecting is a big advocate for this, as he is another river sniper.
Now you're gonna need underwater camera gear... :D ...to record some of these adventures. Secondly another thing to pass along from other snipers - gloves are important, as you'll cut up your fingers without realizing and at least with decent gloves you'll have an indicator as to what's going on.
Very valid point Roger, thank you. I have never had any issues but recently I did. Messed up my equal librarian and had one heck of a dizzy spell. Not Fun😲
The only "problem" I can see with your design is battery placement. Given it is right under the air supply tube, it is gonna be in the way to swap batteries. Secondly, depending upon how long you plan to snipe per day, you may want more than one spare battery. And more than one charging system or a dual output charger.
Crikey!!! The cost difference from USA vs Canada - amazon for same air pump = $190 cdn!!!! (plus shipping) Yes, there's a 25% difference in our dollar, but wow! I'll order from the USA and have delivered to the border, pick up after the border reopens...
@@RichardRoger1966 Not a problem Roger. That battery comes out very easy. I also ordered another battery which I mentioned in the video. One battery charge lasts 1.5 hours. Thanks Michael! So far I have only used the tank one time. I guess adding a pressure gauge would be very easy also..I just did not think that boy u 160 would build up much pressure...I am a week into research,so i have a lot to learn...definitely like the pvc donut idea best...thanks
@@GreenMountainGoldTrap very cool...I should get my pump in a couple of days and do some testing
..last night I figured out how to adjust regulator, which seems to be a big factor in performance, some guys using same pump say 5 foot is the limit, but this other guy has a video of him at 30 feet and he used same boy u 160 120 watt with cheap yellow reg(which he adjusted) ..he said at 30 foot I was pretty hard to breath but 23 foot was fine...thanks for all your feed back.
.
@@roadstar499 I looked at my regulator. Doesn't seem to be a way to adjust. Any tips?
I did add the 100psi pressure release valve just in case.
needs air pressure regulator switch so motor dont run all the time other than that great job!!!
Thanks Lee! you are 100% correct.
I don't need the pvc at all since I have 50' of air line. And the 7 gal tank sounds like it will be a larger capacity than what I have now. Thanks for the info!
Did you fuse your pump. Concern is water getting in and short that could cause high heat/fire the bad gas/air
Thank you nice video
Thanks for the heads up redwood1957. No, I didn't! Really haven't had many opportunities to use it. Don't like going without someone else present for safety reasons.
I have further mods I want to add. Your suggestion is a simple one to incorporate.
@@GreenMountainGoldTrap trying to build one now thanks mike
Sailing boreal for psi relief and filters. Try a Nokta pulse dive.
@@redwood1957 Would love too. But, our gold for the most part isn't detectable. I have a junk Trident Viper or, Viper Trident. Goes 30 meters underwater, but it's garbage! That's what I get for knowing Nothing about detectors and buying one on a whim!
Boreal is a Yacht! But I;m thinking you mean something else since you ended the sentence with, for psi relief and filters.
I have the 100psi relief valve already incorporated. Works well. Just do be right near it when it lets go. It will make you jump a mile!!! 🤣
Excellent @@redwood1957 Whatever you do, don't use the pvc cement if you want to use it before a years time! That stuff took forever to stop stinking!
There is a food grad version for pvc cement.
So 3 hours will do me just fine this time of year as the water gets cooler. However, I may pick up a third a little down the line because your right. I could live under water😁
Nice build! Thanks for sharing. Do you get any build-up of moisture in the tank? Do you use any means of air filtration?
Thanks Michael! So far I have only used the tank one time. There is more mods I want to do to the system such as adding a switch, air pressure regulator so the pump shuts off when it get to a certain psi, add a filter as well as rig it to support two divers. I built it towards the end of last season and it's killing me!! Can't wait for spring!
nice to bad you couldnt set the gm gold trap up on a suction dredge
I hear that Ron! Oh how I wish I could. However, there is something in the works that at least my customers can enjoy.
@@GreenMountainGoldTrap sweet cant wait to see
@@shawsmining It probably won't roll out for a year. Have something else I am filing a patent on first, also for the gold trap. Gotta have accessories!😁
That is NOT breathing air rated hose. It was not "designed" for breathing air. No where on the hose, or in any manual that comes with it, does it claim to be breathing air rated. It is only the seller that claims it is for breathing air. While it does seem to be PVC construction, and you might get away with using it. Stop lying and providing false information claiming it is designed as breathing air quality hose. It just shows your complete lack of knowledge in regards to this project.
Thanks for the kind comment!
I am no professional diver and know little about diving products.
What exactly is your level of knowledge in the matter? Because I would like to know for certain that what I use is not safe.
You spoke as if you were hear when I received the shipment and read a manual that does not exist.
But as I said, I am no professional. My DIY project was based on other DIY's I watched. So your statement of (lack of knowledge) isn't untrue. However, I can't help but wonder why it is you felt the need to be totally rude in the matter.
