Equipment/Techniques:
Vocal mic is a Vanguard V13 into a Warm Audio WA73-EQ
Guitar is a Cordoba C10 through a Blue Encore 100i
Sax is a King Zephyr with a SYOS mouthpiece and Boston Sax Shop reed
Bass is early 20th C. German - fully carved, but no luthier marking
Bass and horn mics are sE Voodoo VR2's into an ART Pro MPA II - Bass also has an sE RF-X on it.
Cymbals are vintage Zlidjians - hat mic is an sE8 and ride mic is an sE V7
Interface is a Zoom UAC-8, Mixed in Pro Tools.
Mastered to 1/4" Tape at 7.5 IPS on a Teac A-3300SX refurbished by Andrew Funk.
Filmed on a Canon EOS R with a nifty 50 and some stocking behind the glass with a DJI Ronin SC gimbal.

About Josh Turner Guitar
Joshua Lee Turner is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and producer based in Brooklyn, New York. Josh is best known for his UA-cam channel Josh Turner Guitar, where he has been posting eclectic cover performances and original music since he started the channel in 2007 at age 15. Josh now tours internationally in support of his own original music, as well as with long-time collaborator Carson McKee, as the folk duo The Other Favorites. In August, Josh released Public Life, his second full-length album of original music.

That's just it. Tom Jobim, Chico Buarque, Ellis Regina (and others) incorporate the natural musicality of the Brazilian Portuguese (often the Carioca Portuguese) into their songs, and to sing them requires that you speak Native Brazilian Portuguese. it's just part of the song. And Josh pulled it off!
PS this is a Tom Jobim song, of course.
@@carlhahn3851 Absolutely! Still wrapping my head around it, I wasn't expecting. Something you often see when others interpret or sing pieces that aren't in their mother language is that even if the pronunciation and spelling are on point, the character and the feeling and emotions of each word regarding their meaning in the actual context of the song is severely sacrificed. It isn't anyone's fault, it's just something you acquire by gaining a deeper understanding of how the language works in a emotional level, it takes time and often practice with natives. That being said, it is something I just can't find here. Pronunciation and feeling mostly on point!

The song "Corcovado", from 1960, is a composition of the brilliant Brazilian conductor and pianist Antônio Carlos Jobim.
Fell in love with this song over 50 years ago. Carlos...top of my list. Thank you.

This is just too tremendous.
In 2009 I was sent a PowerPoint of Rio and the Christ the Redeemer statue. This song by Astrud Gilberto was embedded in it and it took a hold of me. I didn't know I liked that type of music but I became obsessed with this song. You guys nailed it. Thanks for sharing.
