Hello Russ. I am the guy from Ohio who met you at Vista Park on your first visit there and told you about "The Ship Report". Nice to see that you made it back and still enjoy the area. I still live in Cathlamet and had to go shopping for groceries on Sunday morning. There was a bad wreck between Longview and Cathlamet; road completely closed for hours, so I had to take the ferry to get to Longview. I can tell you that the ferry was chock full and it held about 10 trucks/SUV's and 10 sedans for a total of 20 vehicles. It did not happen yesterday, but occasionally a semi-truck and trailer also use the ferry. Keep up the good work and "Go BUCKS"!!!
Thank you you got me with the boat here comes my boat hahaha I'm laughing😂😂😂. That's something dad would have done he passed in 2018. That's why I started watching you because your personality is similar to my dad. Your personality is one of the best. Thank you his name was Lynn Thompson. Rip DAD.
Russ, you missed the best part of St Helens. The two science centers along the main road are really nice but Johnson Ridge is practically in the caldera next to Spirit Lake. They had a slide that closed the road a few miles past your location at Coldwater. The next time you are in the area, you may want to check to see if the road is fixed and make another run to the mountain. It is worth the trip. You end up only a little over four miles from the center on the caldera and there is nothing between you and the mountain to block the view. Thanks for another great video!
It's such a gorgeous area to explore. As for Mount St. Helens I remember the Sunday morning it blew - I'm in the B.C. lower mainland and the initial blast shook the windows, waking me up. Didn't know what it was until I got up and turned on the TV. We wound up having ash fall all the way up here.
You should have gone in and explored the battery! That's the best part of Fort Columbia! Next time, also go check out the "hidden" beach there. One of my favorite stops. Cape Disappointment is my favorite campground ❤
WOW .. my stomping grounds . Longview I sold every house on the block with Kirby and all the lodges wanted me. One house out of Rainier I knocked in to prime rib dinner retired couple . After I pushed away they asked me oh why are you here ... He pulled a new Kirby from the closet and I said geez how could you miss this sale .. WOW ! Really cool people all over the coast .
St Helens is in my backyard. Living here when it blew and was working swingshift in the ER at the hospital closest to the mountain. We received quite a few of the survivors. Fairly chaotic shift. Also, you were at the Coldwater visitor center. The Johnston Ridge visitor center is a lot closer to the mountain and it takes you right in front of the crater but it’s closed because the road washed out.
Fantastic, Russ, absolutely fantastic video of Mt Saint Helen's. I, too, remember when the mountain blew. In fact you can see the scaring left on the side of the mountain, now some 44 years later. Great video series and as you said one for the history books. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Russ, not only is this video beautiful and interesting, it is very educational. One of my favorites, from beginning to the end. Thank you again...👍
THANK YOU FOR GREAT ROAD TRIP ALONG PACIFIC COAST AND COLUMBIA RIVER. Grew up in Port Angeles Wa, many years ago. Such wonderful memories of all the road trips we went on, along Highway 101, Columbia River… from Washington to Carmel California. ❤️
Great video!! Wow, Mt St Helens was 44 years ago!! I was 13 but I remember when it happened. I remember it cooled the Earth's temperature for a short time.
The Washington coastline is beautiful, Russ, and you are right. It's on the Cascadia subduction zone, where one plate is slipping underneath another plate, and from time to time it can kick off big earthquakes and tsunamis. I'm glad you were there on such a beautiful peaceful day. .
Sure enjoyed today's video. I'm on an island and I'm watching storm clouds approaching from the west. The last windstorm was a doozie and I thought my roof was going to blow away. Anyhow, stay safe and stay dry. Give Peach a scratch behind the ear for me.
Visit scenic southern Washington...and leave the driving to Russ! At Marsh's free museum, you missed their most famous resident(some might say world famous), Jake The Alligator Man. Nice that you got a clear day to see St Helens, the last couple of times I've been up there it's been obscured by clouds. (I have hiked to the rim though, and it was an awesome experience).
Hey, Russ. Five years ago we did a trip to Oregon and Washington. So beautiful there! We did the ferry ride from Oregon to Washington though, neat! We stayed at Silver Lakes too, nice campground. We ate dinner at Parkers Restaurant in Castle Rock. We have a special-needs daughter, downs-syndrome, and she moves slow. As we were going in a young man held the door and waited for Caitlyn to go in. We had a nice dinner and when we asked for the check the waitress said it was already paid for by that young man. When we got to the car a sticky note was on our windshield. It said welcome to Castle Rock and they hoped we enjoyed our visit while. there. The couple were probably in their early 20's. Still a lot of nice young people around. Looking forward to your next video. This was one of our favorite road trips. Saw Mt. St. Helens, Hood and Rainer while there.
Nice video! The thing in Long Beach that looks like a bottle was supposed to be a clam. That’s what the frying pan was for. Long Beach is pretty famous for clamming.
Hi Russ. Next time you’re on the Oregon or Washington coast going through the port towns stop in and check out any US Coast Guard Stations. I know in Oregon, Newport, DePoe Bay, or Astoria they would give you a tour of the station and possibly one of the motor boats. I did the one in Coos Bay ( Charleston) and they took me around the station and on the motor boats. It was very interesting.
Awesome Russ. You crossed over on the ferry. I recommended this in june. I grew up to my early teens in Cathlamet. Great to see that old fishing town and Puget Island. My cousin recently retired as the captain of the ferry.
YAY! Excellent video! When you returned to Quartzsite, have you been to Scooters Restaurant next to Patty's Propane? They serve awesome food, including fresh camel burgers! 🍔 They're delicious! Definitely try them out. Super nice folks to. You should definitely do UA-cam interview with them.
I'm the one sibling that was not born in the Washington Tri-Cities area in South Central Washington. I never lived there but I heard quite a bit about it from my parents while I was growing. The Columbia River actually flows into Washington from Canada. It's joined by the Snake River that flows into the state from Idaho. The Columbia does not go anywhere near Idaho. I really enjoy watching this because I miss my trips to the Pacific Northwest back when I was an OTR driver. Thanks for sharing!
(UA-cam keeps deleting my comments for some reason, so I'll try reposting this way) Hey Russ, as always it's great being along for the ride. I've stayed in some of those yurts, they're a nice upgrade option from tent camping. Whenever I'm in Long Beach, I stop at Marsh's to pay a visit to Jake The Alligator Man 🙂
2:09:00. I know this dates me but I was actually finishing up my Senior year in high school when that blew up. I was living in SoCal at the time. I call Mt St Helens Old Flattop.
great video. but, you said that Long Beach (in Washington) is the longest beach in the world and I'm not sure if you were kidding or not, but it isn't the longest beach in the world. that title goes to Praia do Cassino in Brazil. 158 miles long. So glad you came here. My grandmother was born here and her father had the store and postoffice. It has been a while since I visited. Thanks so much.

Up in Long Beach in September they have a really huge Car Show it's called "Rod Run"

I was not disappointed with Cape Disappointment
Mount St Helen was beautiful! Thanks again Russ.❤
Great episodes back to back!!!! Love it!!! Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours Russ!! Come see us up in VT/NH!!

My family all enjoys "joining" on your road trips. The drone shots add a lot - showing us a perspective we'd not see from the road.
Awesome, thank you!
Gotta go up the coast a little bit. Have a ocean spray plant and cranberries
My favorite video so far. WOW! THANK YOU!
Wisconsin is a large cranberry producing state as well, having a Ocean Spray production plants throughout the state.
Great video!! Wow, Mt St Helens was 44 years ago!! I was 13 but I remember when it happened. I remember it cooled the Earth's temperature for a short time.
That’s crazy to think about how much time has passed since then!
The big frying pan was meant for the big razor clam. Long Beach Washington is famous for razor clams. Keep on keeping 👍 great video. Thanks
Thanks for the info!
Great video! Where the Columbia River meets the Pacific Ocean is an incredible location
I agree, it's a beautiful place.
You're still out there😊 I was a Nomad when you started your journeys back then!

I loved our sailboats dearly. And I love that I'm shut of them. We sailed on these very waters.

Did you notice that you could see the Cape Disappointment light house from Fort Columbia?
Who is playing the background music? I love it!
Beautiful
Thanks!

great video. but, you said that Long Beach (in Washington) is the longest beach in the world and I'm not sure if you were kidding or not, but it isn't the longest beach in the world. that title goes to Praia do Cassino in Brazil. 158 miles long. You would think there would be viewing scopes ( telescopes ) to look out on the Ocean 🧐 🔭🌊🔭
Add a zero to that 200 and that's a 4 day trip for me. I need to slow down
That's not a big whine bottle it's a razor clam. Washington coast is covered with them. You fry them in a cast iron pan.
you go to Marshes Museum and you don't show Jake?
You know what boat stands for? Break out another thousand.😂
Cranberry boggs in Wisconsin I have seen.
Long Beach maybe longest but Plymouth Mass is zee big bogs.
Hi Russ. Curious what camera you use when filming your videos? They look great!
Thank you.
