The delivery, the choice of song out of 200+ is so deliberate. Even simplifying the lyrics and the chorus so he can put more emotion into the verses. Amazing!
Awesome reaction ❤❤ omg, I love him too! Yeah that takes huge balls! He showcased his many vocal techniques and it was very focused on the lyrics - I’m sure he wanted people to get an experience they would remember for a long time. Such a stellar performance
He stripped it all right back to basics so he could get his message across to the audience clearly, this man is even more of a legend now he's sang this to a room full of the "elite" 👏👏 I love this version 😍 Shout it louder for the people in the back Ren! 🤣🔥
Great reaction man 👏👏 Ren is our guy and we couldn’t be more proud. Just straight 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Hey…. Notice sell water to a fish is missed and recovers really quickly with next line “time to a clock” Guy is total professional . Didn’t let it bother him at all. Loved this performance - so real 🇨🇦
It's so lovely to see him recover enough health to do this. ❤ He was so nervous, I think, but no wonder given how many important people to the Arts were in the crowd. Slash performed earlier in the evening! And Justin Hawkins closed it! Ren and Romain must have thought it was pretty surreal! The awards were pretty political, with lots of people advocating for better funding of the Arts, and pushing back on the way cuts will affect our cultural expression. So it was a great fit for the night.
The first time I watched this, my initial reaction as it started was a little bit of disappointment because he'd slowed the tempo down... but within the first few lyrics, I was like... wait... no... like, sure, slowing it down might help ensure he doesn't trip over his tongue or whatever, but... I think it's more about ensuring that every person in that audience - and watching the broadcast - catches every lyric, because he wants this message to be spread (and legitimately, his lyric-writing genius also deserves to be experienced by people who might only ever run across his music this ONE place, depending What Happens Next in his life, lol...) And in the end, it felt EXTRA intense and afaic, he nailed it. Like yeah, the water to a fish line got flubbed but he recovered instantly, and I think he minorly *minorly* switched some words around (in a way that doesn't make sense to be purposeful, to me) on the "Step 2" verse, but nothing that AT ALL diminishes the performance of his lyrics. So menacing, and like you say, *aggressive.* He nailed it. He fucking *nailed* it. AND THAT APPLAUSE!!!!!!! OMG, I cried. He nailed that performance (& so did Romain) and they recognized it. I was scared he'd get polite applause. They recognized it. People who overwhelmingly don't know ANYTHING about him & are a part of The Industry.♥ Edit: it's worth highlighting that he nailed the vocals on the chorus, too. Sure, it's absolutely something he can sing, but it's not an easy vocal line under the influence of adrenaline (easy to wobble off some of those high notes). He showed that audience - and the broadcast audience - he can write like a mf'er, he can rap like a mf'er, he can sing like a mf'er, and he has the stage presence of a goddamned MF'ER. edit edit: and I'm kinda excited for new-to-Ren reactors, from this point onwards, might do this live performance of MG2 as their first exposure to MG2! I love the "lyric video" and the production of the song in studio and the frenzied pace, but it'll be interesting to watch people here and there, take in MG2 for the first time with Ren doing it live.
I totally feel that, and I agree I think it was by design to start slow and finish hard, almost like the message itself catching fire and spreading which is SO DAMN COOL. Yeah he had one slip but like you mentioned the recovery was just super impressive to me. If you don't know the song you might have had no idea that it happened and if you know it for him to just push through like that is even more impressive because many artists would have a pause in thought process. It was SO awesome. You're also absolutely right. He did nail the chorus and it really really carried the weight of the sentiment. Going in on that mf'er line that hard is SOOOOOO good, and I love how you phrased this lmao. Much love Rebecca
@@shadowaeternum2690 well, actually, my mom died a month ago today so it's been a rough one. It wasn't unexpected, but of course that doesn't stop it from hurting. I know you've been through losing someone beloved recently enough too, so I know you know all too well. Music has always helped me process all the layers of emotion and experience in life, so I've been listening to/doing a bunch of music, and I've been really glad for the Ren releases & reactors over the past few weeks. Hope the back to school thing is treating you well this year!
I'm hlad someone finally found the description for this. After the Sick Boi debacle, it felt personal is exactly right. Hugs and good thoughts for you and yours. Hope you have a great day, week, month, year!
100% This is such a powerful time for him to have chosen this song. And on top of that doing it for that specific audience!! Ren is a FORCE. Hugs and good thoughts and so much love for you and yours as well Holls :)
This stripped back version has such an eerie nature to it that I love. The slower pace allows Ren to get the message out loud and clear …absolute 🔥🔥🔥 love your thoughts about the audience. Thanks Nav.
Great reaction, thanks so much!! I loved your take... great responses and insights. Looking forward to your next Ren reaction. (You might be interested in seeing soon Knox Hill's brand new drop called Fentanyl ft. Ren, with Samuel Perry-Falvey as the director of photography! I think their video should win some Awards!!)
Best Reaction 👏👏 You brought out all sides and pointed things out about him singing this but also Ren's emotions in it which made it more powerful than just a performance. 😉 You're right 👍It took guts to be in front of an elite audience of high $$ for an Inaugural Arts award show, Only 11 awards given but covered all facets of the arts ( poetry ,literature, film, music ,dance etc ) Show focus for the night ( host speeches and performances ) all based around the government taking $$ away from the arts😢 I'm sure people the government heard it too 😉 since it was televised all over Europe and now on UA-cam everywhere. Nailed it Ren 👏👏👏 You pick the perfect song for the perfect time 👌👌Bravo Ren & Romain too 💰🎸 one of 5 performances that night, for you only 2nd live solo performance in 5 years and after coming back from 18 months of hard medical treatment in Canada. You're such an inspiration to all 💞 Got to be nerve-wracking for both but did a wonderful job 👍
It's obvious that the music industry are offering an olive branch to get him into their money game, and I wouldn't be surprised if they make him career choices that make both him and them richer, at least Ren can afford to be in a position where he can lay down the terms of any project they might tempt him with and he will make the right decisions for him and his fans above all else!
If you're going to ruin the song by interjecting because for some reason you reactors can't control yourselves can you at least turn your mic down? I'm shocked that you people are making a living at this, this is brutal.
My favourite part about this comment is the assumption that I make a living from making these videos haha. Unfortunately, I don't come even remotely close to making a living off of making these videos. I do it because I love discussing the music, the directing, the visuals, lyricism, etc, that these videos provide us, and doing so with others who find the meaning behind these aspects of music as fascinating as I do. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone doing reactions that doesn't interject in some way, shape or form, otherwise what would be the point? If you want to watch the original video without any interjections, then you should probably be watching the original video. And don't get me wrong, it's totally fair if you don't find the things I say interesting or worth your time, but to ask why we interject at all is a bit unreasonable. Anyhow, I genuinely hope that you're having a great day :) much love
You're one of the few that have taken into account the audience he's singing this to, love it
