That 40 is a beast, beating even my very good sigma 35/1.4. For mosaics it is usable wide open since the corners are great! Very versatile. Just gave you a sub based on this video. Best wishes from Scotland.
I've heard this lens from Eric Benedetti. He's also saying this is the best astro landscape lens he ever used. Another one is the Sigma 28mm f1.4 lens. Nice review. Would love to see this type of vids more!
I am going to Iceland to catch the Aurora Borealis, but I only have the Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 lens on my Sony a7iii and was wondering if that was gonna be enough for and Astro Lens? Or should I think about getting another lens as well?
It seems Sigma has cut the price some $500, it’s in the same range of the 35 and 50mm 1.4 Art lenses. At $800 or $700 on offer, it’s a fraction of the cost of the Canon 35mm 1.4L II or the Sony 35mm 1.4 GM, while my guess it offers similar, if not superior optical performance. Too bad is not available for PK, with the K-1 II it’s not necessary to carry the star tracker with all cables, power supply and accessories. I recently got my first Sigma, the 24-35mm 2.0 Art for my Nikon DSLR’s and must say I’m very impressed.
I have been making my living from photography for almost 30 years and I cannot understand how so many glass lenses through which light passes can create such a clean, contrasty and sharp image? It is incredible! I really wanted to buy this lens...
Great content! I got a question though.. you said you used canon ef lens mounted on the sony a7r2...so that means, were you able to change the aperture electronically or not? Also what converter do you own?
Yes you're right. I have another review coming out but that focal length is 35mm... I do plan on reviewing the Sigma 153m f/1.8 and Rokinon 135mm f/2 for astro.
what is your take on rokinon 35mm f1.4. Also does the tamron 35mm and the 40mm sigma have a mechanical aperture ring/control? if not, what lenses would you recommend for astro with mechanical aperture ring in 28mm to 40mm range
Your videos are GOLD my friend! Please consider reviewing the Sony 20mm f1.8 g as well! And is Sigma 85mm f1.4 art a good performer for astrophotography? Thank you very much!
Thanks, I'll check those lenses out! I actually own the 20mm f1.8g and will be reviewing that one as well. That lens is sooooo good by the way, easily 8-9/10 territory.
@@Apalapse thank you wholeheartedly! What do you think is the best 35mm and 85mm lenses for astrophotography for Sony E mount? The problem is that the Tamron SP lenses has a very low availability for the E mount!
I have the Sigma 20, 35, 50, 85mm Art series for Nikon F. Both the 35 and the 85mm performs well, I would say that the 85 is exceptionally well (at 1.4 whuch I used there where some chromatic aberration, but correctable, and minor astigmatism), I not yed had a chance to properly test my 50mm since I brought recently. I disappointed with the 20mm Art.

Very nice review! Glad our 40mm fared so well in your tests. :)
It's one of the best I've tested! A hidden gem for sure!
Agreed! Just ordered one from B&H. Thank you!

28mm f 1.4 is incredible. Best money I've ever spent
Excellent review
I love the 40mm. Have you seen the new DG DN Art lenses? Looks like Sigma is really adressing us astrophotographer 😊
Thanks a lot for this video :)

Thanks man; love your reviews! Very clear and to the point. Looking forward to future reviews.
it is less about 799 lower days at Adorama and B&H
are you alive..?
Great stuff. Thanks! I can see you are mainly focusing on shorter focal lengths. Look forward to the day when you extend your reviews to 85mm+!
Yes you're right. I have another review coming out but that focal length is 35mm... I do plan on reviewing the Sigma 153m f/1.8 and Rokinon 135mm f/2 for astro.
Hey Sigma, PLEASE produce an astro-centric 20mm lens. Make it manual focus only, and optically corrected for ASTRO. 40mm does me no good.

20mm 1.4 next
Great review. 12 May 2022, Adorama sale price $599, combined with your review I ordered one.
I am thinking of getting myself a Nikon 20mm 1.8 for my D750. Would you have any views about it or could we expect a video on it?
Please consider reviewing Samyang 24mm f/1.8! Keep up with the good job
Beautiful Lens, 🫶
heavy & large but quality is sometimes also quantity
With the quality of the video I've just subscribed and after a quick look at your range of content, I wish you well with the channel.
Nice review man the lens is now about the half of the price in the USA in 2022 at Adorama and B&H .
