When my 23 yr old daughter was around the same age I used to do similar things with treasure maps and little wooden boxes full of 50 cent coins. I love this vid because I remember the excitement on her little face and how much fun it was as a Dad. I miss being Daddy. Haven't seen her since 2017, her mother divorced me in 2011 and basically turned her against me when I re married in 2014. Maybe one day she will remember the Daddy she had once......

3:15 I know the girl was young but the "secret" room literally has two windows to the outside, one of which looks like it's shared with another room since there's a wall centered in the second window. At some point you'd think she'd be curious about a window outside that she hasn't been able to access from any rooms normally.

This is interesting, a good friend of mine had a house in Northern Virginia that went through the Civil War era. There was a space in his house that he had never seen until a carpenter went up to make some adjustments on a ceiling fan. The carpenter opened up this hidden room and found enough gunpowder to take out the entire block. They had to disassemble part of the roof to get the bomb squad and to get it out.

My grandfather was renovating his house and we had the idea to leave notes in a bottle in one of the walls. There's probably 10-20 notes in there from my wacky family.

I bought a house and when renovating I found coke bottles with notes. Not your home though, lol. It was from the original owner who built their own home and the notes where drawings of what they envisioned their house to look like with ideas on improvements that can be made along with lists of materials to buy during the build. Still unexpected and cool to find but at same time seemed like he was just a bit lazy and sealed up his trash in the wall >.>

As a electrician i had to help reconstruct a building in a old town.
When we broke open the floor we found a catacomb like tunnel connecting all the houses in the street.
Later we lerned it was known by the townhall but they forgot to mention it to the new owner.
When inside we also noticed it was known under some residents since some parts where gated off, still a thrilling experiance tho.

Come to found out there was a Secret fireplace in the dinning room and in our play room closet there was a wall my mom tore down and she found hundred year old Tiffany lamp 2 of them then when it come time to the basement we discovered that the house was a speakeasy back in the day and my dad and brother got into the crawlspace in the basement I discovered hundreds of empty liquor bottles an old baby bed and an old washtub!

WoW thx for sharing! We once had a giant old home with cool things. My. Brother hid in the front coat closet but came out in the kitchen. The back wall of the closet slid open. The VERY deep basement had a basement and that one had a one room tile floor basement with a d drain in the middle of the room. On the second floor there were cellar doors but when you open them there were about ten small stairs going up. It was two creepy little rooms each with a sink. Obviously servant or worse, slave quarters. Those doors were right across from my bedroom door, which was huge inside. Also, iidk why but we were all afraid of my brothers closet and he didn’t use it. Even my mom kept it empty. My brother usually slept in my room cuz it was just creepy but for no actual reason. It’s amazing to remember that big old house and unfortunately we don’t have any pictures of it other than outside. They tore it down and built a parking lot for a doctors office. It’s really too bad

seems good in theory, however that place would be RIDDLED with crime, shady dealings, disrespectful a-holes, fights, drug use (to the extreme) and finally property damage to the point of having to close down to those who really needed it. It LITERALLY TAKES ONE PERSON to screw over the hundreds who truly deserve a break. Also.. then you have to deal with the folks who are so entitled, that take, take, take, even if they are not even in need, simply just because they are determined to ruin someone else's day/month/year/life etc...

I gotta be honest, if there was a hidden room in my house I'd just hide my body or my ashes in there after I died, just to scare the new homeowner
Also, maybe the grandfather didn't want the photos to get stolen.

I'm reminded of how a group renovating a castle in France in the 1970's found a hidden trap door that was never marked on any floor plan of the castle. Curious, they opened it up and were greeted by some very foul smells. What they found upon looking inside was the castle's oubliette.

Yeah; in my primary residence back home, there's a small notch in the wall near my bed. When I initially discovered it, there was nothing but old bits of clay and a few silver coins that had likely dropped from clumsies as the floor is uneven between the bedrooms and the parlour. I think all the bedrooms have them in my house.

here in N. Louisiana growing up our next door neighbor had a bomb shelter. Since it didn't get used often, even with Barksdale in our back yard as it were, my mother tried and tried to get Mrs. P to grow mushrooms as it was a perfect environment for them. Sadly it's been filled in and is now a swimming pool. Now to pile weirdness on weirdness all in one block.
We too had a hidden room in our house on the 2nd floor as did the ppl down the street, which i would have never known about had those bad little red headed children ( one of which grew up to be Navy Seal) not hidden from me for hours in this room while baby sitting them. As a matter of fact the house just sold after being on the market for the 1st time in maybe 60 yrs. Guess I'd better take a stroll over and let them know if they don't already! LOL Cheers

amazing dad right there gives me ideas, lol, and the guy who found the city in his basement I would have told no one ever and would have made a secret entrance to get in and fitted it out with lights and stuff, man; that was awesome
I found some crazy stuff through the years doing all kinds of construction and electrical jobs. I recall one house that had an enormous basement and an opening that was quite small and up so high you needed a ladder to get in, and I am quite small, so in I go and what I find is I am actually between the floor of the 2nd story and the ceiling of the 1st floor, and then after crawling quite a ways about 15 feet or so in a space about 12 to 15 inches in height I came to an opening it was big enough I could stand back up, and this room was the big size of a bedroom, and it had other sections going out of varying sizes, and one had a poop kitty cat that must have got stuck so sad but yeah crazy places right around us

The dad that made the hidden room and treasure hunt. Very cool. My dad did something similar when I was about 7 or 8 years old. I was in love with model trains, like Lionel specifically the HO scale. In the house I grew up in, in Miami by father secretly built an incredible HO scale model train layout. It took him a year of working nights while I was sleeping or when I was at school on his days off. We had a "play room" which was just an old enclosed garage used for toys and tools. One Christmas morning I was opening presents and there was a shit load of model trains, locomotives, rolling stock, little scale cars and trucks.....but no tracks. I was happy but confused about where I would use them. Well he took me into the play room and asked what I see....I saw nothing more than what I saw every day. Then he goes to one of the walls and flips a latch and this massive train layout folded out of the wall. It was incredible, roughly 15 feet long by 7 feet wide! It was the entire wall and was only noticeable folded up by the long piano hinge that ran the length of the wall about 12" off the floor, easily hidden by the couch and boxes of crap. It was complete with 2 tracks running the entire layout, switch tracks, houses, buildings, trees, roads and fully lit up. Every house and building had lights , the street lights worked, when the train went over a RR crossing the gates lit up and came down. It was amazing! I couldn't wait to put all my new trains and scale cars on the layout. I'm 47 years old now so this was back in the early 1980's. I still have most of the trains in storage. I hope to build something similar for my sons one day. My boys are 12 and 4 so I need to work fast. LOL

There's a handle in the floor in one of our closets in my house. It looked like just a handle since we didn't see any signs of it being a trapdoor until we took a closer look.
