  • Wow! Over 100 subscribers and 1.6k views on my last video - that's insane! Thank you to everyone who liked and subscribed, and a special thanks to everyone who commented! I loved hearing all of your tips and tricks for diorama building - keep them coming.
    In this video I explore how I made this wizards tower from a Pringles tube. All in all, this build cost me under £15 in supplies and that's including all the tools, glue, and materials. It really is super easy to build on a budget!
    Again, many thanks for the love on the last video - it means a lot. Any tips, tricks or suggestions for future videos, let me know!

    Fantastic! So many little choices you made that really pull it together: the Cross stitch screen, the creeping vines, the uneven roof shingles. Well done - Love it!

    This turned out really well, it would be very cool to be able to swap out the top so it could double as a watchtower or a lighthouse
    The trick to cutting XPS with just a knife is to use a sharp blade and do lots of shallow cuts rather than pressing hard or sawing, it gives you a fairly smooth edge

      OH MY GOSH! Best idea ever! Wish I had thought of that before gluing the top on.
      Thanks for the tip! I'll have to invest in some better blades or a better knife. I've snapped so many blades trying to cut into foam! I think my lack of patience doesn't help in that department either... lol!

      If you can find one of those long retractable knives with snap-off blades then they're usually the best for that - you can keep the blade at a low angle, almost parallel to the surface of the foam, and keep going over it with gentle passes

    Great job. Try painting the "net" in the window black. Let it dry, and then paint the front silver. It will make the windows look more realistic, I think. Because it blocks the light better.

    Suggestion for cutting foam: get a heavy duty locking snap off blade knife (Exacto, Olfa, any brand will do.) And cut foam using several passes lightly pressing the knife. It cuts smoother when you want to cut a straight line

      Thanks so much for the tip! I will definitely have to invest in a better knife… and get some patience in me! 😂

    You could add spackle between the bricks to fill in some gaps and soften the transition between them before painting next time.

    Balsa is a lot easier to work with if you soak it first for a minute or two. Balsa will be flexible after that and will be stronger in the new position once it dries.
    Also in regards to cutting the foam you might consider buying a box cutter style knife. It will cut sharply like an xacto but be much sturdier than that tiny art shiv. Speaking from experience having a bigger knife will give you more control and make you less likely to cut yourself. I had my knife slip on me and cut to the bone. 10k later in medical bills and I better now. TY American Health system 🫠

      @caitlout  6 місяців тому

      I didn't know that about balsa - thanks! I'll have to try that next time. Yeah I have serious trouble cutting the foam LOL. Will defo have to invest in a box cutter and maybe have a bit more patience... I snapped one of my xacto blades trying to cut foam... Thanks so much for the tip!
      Oh god! That's awful, I hope you're okay now!!! I definitely need to get a better knife then!
      Thanks for watching and commenting mate, it means a lot.
