The biggest risk to Ms Vadra contesting is the spotlight it would bring on Mr Vadra and his financial dealings which are allegedly shady. BJP would have a field day. Gandhis are stuck between rock and a hard place. Very likely they would skip and live to fight another day after Mr Modi retires.

How come these politicians fight elections from 2 different constituencies? I remember TN Seshan the then chief election commissioner had forbidden the likes of LK Advani and Sonia Gandhi from contesting from 2 different constituencies. He forced Advani to choose between Gandhinagar and Delhi, maintaining that a person can have only one residential address so he can contest from only one constituency. When did our election commission and obviously the polity change this rule, it would be good if you shed some light on this. Your views are always unbiased, and for topic like this that's the most important virtue. Looking forward for your show on this subject.

For Congress to comeback, the Gandhi family must go and this would have a cascading effect. All the regional family parties would feel the heat and hopefully have a better inclusive democracy in the all the opposition parties that provide a good fight to BJP. The electoral contest from Amethi and Rae Bareli assumes significance in the wake of Congress sliding into oblivion and staring at an existential crisis particularly in Northern and western India. Deserting these seats would spell disaster in terms of optics, voter's perception and long term political goals. If the Gandhi siblings contest from both the seats it would mean Congress is not giving up on Northern India despite setbacks and numerous challenges. Northern India is crucial because here the Congress faces a direct fight with the BJP and its strike rate drops due to which shot at power becomes impossible. If the Congress and the Indi alliance wants to come to office congress needs to improve its tally in this part of India. In the last two elections, South India has provided the electoral comfort to the Congress. Many experts and commentators have dubbed the party as a "regional party in the south" which is damaging for a pan India national party and has reputational costs. But the decision hinges on the political acumen of the clan which is in free fall,mired in credibility crisis and leading the party in its most difficult election ever post independence.
