- The United States’ support for Israel was considered, to use a phrase of President Biden, ironclad. But that has been thrown into question by the US administration’s historic decision to suspend a delivery of weapons to Israel in order to pressure it not to wage a major offensive against Hamas in Rafah. The announcement sounded alarm bells about the nature of the US-Israel alliance. About Israel’s strategic dependence on Washington and what Israel needs to do to maintain its military independence.
Michael Oren was Israel’s ambassador to Washington in 2009-2013, before a stint in the Knesset as a deputy minister in the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office. He is an acclaimed historian, and author of New York Times bestselling books about the history of America’s involvement in the Middle East and the Six-Day War. As an American-born Israeli, he straddles both worlds looking to find productive ways to move the alliance ever forward.
This episode was recorded before the Biden Administration’s bombshell announcement, but that only makes our discussion more timely.

Saudis will not sign an agreement with Israel if Israel loses the war against Hamas. Israel needs to be strong to gain respect (essential in the middle east).
I’d also imagine they’d rather wait to see what happens with the election. Biden started his presidency by labeling MBS a “global pariah”. Biden then removed the Houthis from terror list, stopped enforcing sanctions on Iran, and sent Iran billions - even after October 7th. Then when Iranian proxies used that money to fire missiles at UAE and Saudi, they couldn’t even get Biden on the phone. It’s only since the region has been engulfed in flames just like under Obama that they’ve begun to sort of pivot towards Trump’s foreign policy which was undeniably more successful and gave us the Abraham Accords. So it really makes no sense for Saudi Arabia to cut a deal now brokered by USA under Biden. Why would they want to help the electoral chances of a foreign policy team that has such a disastrous record in the region with two wars in Gaza, collapse of Libya, collapse of Syria, collapse of Iraq, collapse of Afghanistan, collapse of Yemen, formation of an Islamic caliphate, all of our allies being attacked, and potentially a nuclear Iran? It’d make no sense whatsoever. MBS would be so much better off waiting for what I’m sure he’s hoping for, a Trump win in November. Then they can make the deal, have a friend in the White House, and collectively try to put an end to this nonstop terror once and for all. It’s not as if stabilizing the region is impossible. Really all you’d need to do is stop sending billions to the people who then use that money to create the chaos. Trump did that once before so snapping sanctions back on Iran, adding the Houthis back to terror list, and stop sending billions to UNRWA and Gaza again would basically solve the problem. Money to the Palestinians is particularly insane. All the Trump admin requested was that they stop a policy whereby they’d offer a large cash reward and free home to any Palestinian who murders a Jew. Trump’s position was that if you want our money you need to abolish that policy and stop incentivizing terrorism. Palestinians refused, killing Jews is just too important to them, so Trump stopped sending all the cash. Same with UNRWA, if you want our money you can’t use it to teach kids that their lives should revolve around murdering Jews. Again, those in Gaza and the West Bank couldn’t agree to that so he cut off the money. Then the Obama/Biden foreign policy team comes back in with an Israeli/Saudi peace deal teed up and ready to go then they sprint as far away from that deal as possible and start funding our shared enemies again. It’s completely insane. That’s why I have a really hard time imagining the Saudis or Israelis would want to give Biden an electoral boost over Trump. Saudi Arabia has probably liberalized more than any country in the world since MBS took power. At first Trump wanted nothing to do with them but they made real commitments and stuck to it. Virtually everything about Saudi Arabia that we used to criticize - women not being able to drive, religious police, restrictions on men and women in public, no movie theaters, strict hijab laws, etc. have been done away with. The Saudi foreign minister said six-months ago that he expects in the future to see Europeans moving to the UAE and Saudi to get away from radical Islam. Just think about that. Obama/Biden people saw all this and just didn’t care. They clearly prefer the Ayatollah despite knowing that the Ayatollah openly talks about his desire to bring about a global apocalypse with the expectation that a 15 year old boy, the 12th Imam, rise from the ashes to rule over a global Islamic caliphate with its capital city in Iran. Obama/Biden people saw that happening in Tehran while at the same time Cristiano Ronaldo is playing in Saudi Arabia surrounded by global superstars, their wives attending the games dressed like they’re in Miami Beach, and decided they’d rather push the Saudis away and get closer to Iran. There is zero logic to it and this is precisely why these clowns engulfed the region in flames under Obama with an Islamic caliphate, inherited the Abraham Accords, and then immediately engulfed the region in flames again. So unfortunately for Israel a peace deal with the Saudis hinges much more on who is in the White House than what happens over between now and November. If Trump wins then the Saudis will know Hamas and Iran are fucked and will feel confident making a peace deal. However, if Biden wins even if Israel has defeated Hamas it’d probably be more in the interest of Saudi to move away from Israel and try to mend things with the Iranians, which is why they signed what amounts to a non-aggressive pact with Iran once Biden took power. It’s all such a shame. I’m a lifelong liberal but Obama/Biden team is horrific at foreign policy and given that Trump is basically a 1990s Democrat on social issues it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever not support him in November. These fools have made such a mess of things and no matter what now given the border situation we’re inevitably going to be hit by 9/11 style attacks. It’s unavoidable. There are 2-5M people who risked death to avoid detection when had they just turned themselves in they could live for free in USA in perpetuity. If even 1% of that 2-5M are jihadists we’re looking at what would be the equivalent of at minimum 1000x the number of people required to carry out 9/11. This admin has absolutely fucked us and anyone voting for them in November simply doesn’t care about anything more than party affiliation.

The problem is that leaving Hamas intact at all causes this to be a never ending problem as they tend to rebuild themselves extremely fast if left standing.

I'm watching this interview with Ambassador Michael Oren from Ireland and it is brilliant a fascinating insight into Americian politics. I have always been intrigued with US politics as most of my relatives live there going back years some are Republicians and others are Democrats. I think I understand now why Joe Biden makes these conflicting statements regarding Israel.
Michael Oren had also very interesting things to say about Gaza and the war with Hamas
and also Hezbollah .

I sometimes wonder if the empty churches in Europe have more to do with a lack of consumer choice than of faith. There’s a larger market overall in 🇺🇸 to cater to different doctrines whereas in Europe people have fewer options if they (justifiably!!!) lose trust in the mainstream institutions such as the Catholic Church or, in 🇬🇧, the Anglican.
All this to say, I don’t think turnout on Sundays is a good barometer of where peoples’ spiritual hearts are. I suspect it’s a little like the media - people are going to other sources & taking it upon themselves to do the work rather be spoon fed by all too fallible & self interested institutions. I also suspect, given how chaotic & unpleasant current times are, that we may even witness a growth. Though it will be unlike that’s gone before. Oren believes democracy is not suitable for the Arabs. For example democracy in Egypt led to Egypt first Muslim brotherhood president who was overthrown by general sisi, the current dictator in Egypt. Oren loves dictators.

I'll be the first to knock sleepy Joe. But it did feel genuine when he made his first address about October 7th. He looked like a confused and heartbroken old man. He looked like his grandkids exploded. He had the "how could this be" look on him. I beleive he felt the weight with us. But I dont beleive he is strong enough to stick it to his base and be the friend we need. Why SHOULDNT a politician challenge his constituents when they are wrong? They elected you to LEAD. Maybe I'm just being too defensive as an American, and I recognize we don't have a great reputation in terms of our knowledge of world geography, but Ukraine is pretty damn huge and relatively easily identifiable on a map, and I'd reckon probably 80% or so of Americans could point to it on a globe. Same with Taiwan, everyone knows it's just the little island off the coast of China. Start asking Americans to identify Central/Eastern European countries though (or god forbid African/Asian countries) and you will be met with a lot of blank stares.

The home education is THE most important. Our children should be taught critical thinking at home, and be sure of their values and patriotic. The only reason the universities have succeeded at indoctrinating our kids is because of the utter failure of families parents to instill these skills and attributes. They arrive ignorant and vacuous and desperate for real knowledge that their home life failed to provide. So they put these professors in a pedestal and worship and believe everything they spew. American k-12 is a disaster and now confusing kids with this trans stuff. I support homeschooling. The only way to combat this is to keep families together and nurturing your love and traditions so that no outside force can break those bonds.
WHO classifies all processed beef as a class 1 carcinogen. Vegan dogs are delicious. Israel may be the most vegan country in the world with 5%.
