    Wow! My Seafardi family has 400 years proud Castilian Toledo-Spain, Algeria & Bratsilava roots. My dad was lucky enough to get out, arriving in Palestine in 1936 just as the Nazis rolled into Czechoslovakia, however, 72 other members of my Frankl family were murdered by the Nazis. My dad felt sufered from guilt having left his family behind, and blamed it on all his bad luck in life, such as losing his beloved wife when I was born, and marrying a brutal, cruel woman who conned him to move from beautiful Israel to an ugly shithole named Brooklyn, NY when I was 13 years old. I did return & served in the IDF, my greatest of all honors
    For a long time I felt resentful toward Czechoslovakia, but this video has helped me to forgive. Also a Cezchoslovakian Christian lady saved the lives of two of my cousins. Amen.
    VIVA Israel and heroic IDF warriors.
    Thank you Chechoslovakia. Sababa ("cool" in IDF slang).
    Never again will Jews be unarmed and defeseless. Amen.

    As a Czech citizen I have to say something. Czechoslovakia really did help Israel but its only fair to say the reason CZ helped the Israel was not only a kind of Philo-semitism and Anti-capitalistic doctrine ordered by Soviet Union, but one of the important reasons was Czechoslovakia after the WW2 was literally thirsty for US dollars. Desperately thirsty because of the absence of the economic Marshall Plan aid and benefits refused by Czechoslovakian communist government and destroyed industry after the 2WW. Israel paid literally every gun and every bullet. It was definitely not a nice gift from Czechoslovakia to Israel, but I am really glad it helped Israel in a crucial period to face a numerical superiority of unscrupulous enemies. Jewish inhabitants of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia left an unerasable trace in our history and our culture. On the contrary we should thank them for contributing not only to the economic development of our country centuries and years ago but simply for being what they were/are with their interesting culture, architecture and customs. Greets from CZ and stay strong. You are definitely not alone.

      There was an interesting TV show I took some info from and one of the Israelis said that he admires Czechoslovakia twice. For the help they provided despite the embargo and also for being able to sell the stuff so expensive which is something he would do as well :) and let's be honest, every country had problems after the war so it was just an opportunity taken. :)

    Great video! I was researching the first Isreali war (1948) and there was mention that after the first UN cease fire that Israel received armored cars and heavy artillery. Did that also come from Czechoslovakia? If so what models. You mentioned Hetzer tank hunters were originally going to be purchased, but didn't make it. Thank you for a great video!

      Thanks mate :)... well, there is a problem. Once Israel became "an enemy" of the combloc, many of the documents related to the military aid from Czechloslovakia were shreded because the people in charge were afraid it might backfire on them. I only put in the video the stuff we have resources for but unfortunately, there might have been more stuff sent there for which we have no proof. And it would make sense since there was a plenty of these abandoned around here...maybe over time the Israeli archives will help to fill these blank spots... would be great! :)

    Russians have spared Prague and thousands of its own soldiers, a rare consideration.
    But I would not call what happened to Czechoslovakia in 1945 "liberated". Your country has changed masters. The true liberation came what, in 1990?

      Correct. I mean for a brief moment it looked good. 1946-47 but commies were slowly taking over.... And the true liberation came after the '89 Velvet Revolution.

    Czechoslovakia🇨🇿 at the founding of Israel🇮🇱
    It was during the creation of Israel that Czechoslovakia also played one of the main roles, especially by supporting the newly formed Israeli army, which was formed from the military organization Haganah and the militant groups Irgun and Lechi. The newly formed Israel Defense Forces (IDF) had to deal with several war conflicts right from the start in order for the State of Israel to defend its new existence.
    The Israel Defense Forces were faced with several problems. First, they waged war on several fronts, against Lebanon and Syria in the north, Jordan and Iraq in the east, Egypt in the south, and the Palestinian Territories across the region. Second, the soldiers lacked training, weapons, machines... in fact, everything needed to wage war. They mostly had older weapons that the Hagana organization acquired in various ways through individual conflicts. For example, the air force used repaired wreckage of British aircraft from the Second World War or smaller civilian aircraft adapted for combat. And here comes Czechoslovakia's turn.
    "I consider the establishment of a Jewish state in Palestine to be the only possible and just solution to the world Jewish question at all. Therefore, whenever an opportunity presents itself, I will always help to make it happen," President Edvard Beneš said in 1946. And that's how the mood towards the creation of Israel in post-war Czechoslovakia could be summed up. Czechoslovakia was primarily a transit state for Jewish residents from various corners of Europe. These were, for example, Jewish resettlers from Hungary, Romania or Poland. Across our entire political spectrum, the Israeli situation was seen more or less unanimously - and Israel also considered its friendship with Czechoslovakia in the 1950s appropriate
    Czechoslovakia played a vital role in the creation of Israel and the Israeli army: It supplied weapons, ammunition and fighter planes to the Jewish state.
    Historically, the state of Israel is closely connected with Czechoslovakia, as our country made a significant contribution to its establishment in the post-war period. Above all, the Israeli army was grateful to Czechoslovakia in the beginning for training experts, weapons supplies and fighter planes, which we were the only country to deliver to Israel despite the UN embargo.
    However, one cannot deny Israel's unreal purposefulness in building its own state and in its tenacious defense. The State of Israel was established on May 14, 1948 (in 9 months, less than a year, it will be 77 years since its foundation) after the cruel Second World War, during which the Jewish population experienced hell on earth. The Jewish state in the Middle East was created from the blood of the victims of the Second World War, and with the blood of its new citizens it fiercely defended its independence in the first few years surrounded by Arab states.

I am now also working on the possibility to get some of these guns in my hands and show them to you all.... hopefully it will work out fine :)

    I stumbled across the story of Czech arms helping the Israeli wifh weaponry when reading about the 1948 49 Arab Israeli War. I had not been aware of this.
    My research led me to your site
    Your story clarified the methodology and reasons for this.
    The politics of the situation were quite interesting.
    As was the frank disclosure of the finances
    Thank you very much.
    It has been brought to my attention that Czech mitary know how I s quite under rated or perhaps not as well known as it might be..
    For example I have been told that the Czechs have developed a vastly superior version of the Hind helicopter gunship includes vastly uorafed engines hhat allow it to better operate in high altitude environments improved electronics and electrical systems and improved armaments..
    Can you tell me if this is corrdct?ht be

    • @CzechoslovakGunStories
      @CzechoslovakGunStories  3 роки тому

      Hi Joseph, thanks for your message :) as for the Hind I do not have any particular resources. But I guess it can be true since there is a plane factory which specializes apart from building planes like L-30 or L-159 in heavily modernizing Mi-17 helicopters. So it would make sense that Hinds would get the same amount of care....

    Why didn't they purchase STG44s and MG42s? I presume the Czech Army used it themself, is this correct?

    • @CzechoslovakGunStories
      @CzechoslovakGunStories  4 роки тому +3

      yes, partially because of that, also, I would assume, since Mauser rifles and MG-34 machineguns were produced directly here in the Brno factory, there were large stockpiles of them here. Plus a lot of parts from which they could assemble more of them. I have to say that it is possible some MG42s and Stgs were sent there, but once the Israel became the enemy of the Eastern bloc in the early 50s a lot of documents were destroyed (probably because the responsible people were afraid of being compromised) so we cannot exclude the possibility of some other guns being delivered :) the stuff I mentioned in the video is what we have resources for :) hopefully some other documents will be found in the future :)
