  • The Nissan Navara has been around for a few years now as the luxury bakkie range in the Nissan stable, it's biggest compliment was when it was chosen by Mercedes as their partner to form the basis of the Mercedes X-Class.
Like most upper market double cabs, I deem the Navara to be a default luxury vehicle and it is certainly not lacking anything in terms of luxury or safety specification with its 7 airbags across the range.
Powered by a 2.3L 4 cylinder turbodiesel, the figures of 140kW and 450Nm compare extremely favourably in the market. The 7 speed automatic gearbox is excellent and very smooth in operation, making this a very relaxed vehicle in everyday use.
The Stealth models add colour combinations and decals on the exterior that look modern and aggressive. On the interior, colour trim and stitching add to the overall ambieance.
Taking into account that the current vehicle is one of the older competitors in the segment, it's interesting to note ow the game has moved on over the last few years. When the Navara was launched, it stood out for its comfort biased rear suspension and ride. I feel that the competitors have upped their game in the meantime, the test vehicle felt a bit rough and bouncy in my opinion.
    Priced at R669 800 as tested, this includes a 6 year/ 150 000km warranty and a 3 year/ 90 000km service plan.
