    Nice work - though two questions. First - how do you know if random metal you've found is going to produce anything useful. Secondly - why does so much of the grinding on the blade take place after annealing when the metal is hardest, rather than after its been softened and relaxed by tempering?
    As to a thought on a new project - I've always wanted a knife themed on the bolts used in Roadside Picnic or the novel's well known videogame adaptation - Stalker. Keep a big hex-head as the pommel and try to retain some threading for the handle (or a wire wrap on the scales that looks like it) and the rest blade.

    Worst material ever to make an edged weapon out of. Well...that and a railroad spike. Terrible steel to use. Rebar is garbage material.
