「岩崎鬼剣舞」（岩手県北上市）の概要について
国指定重要無形民俗文化財
ユネスコ無形文化遺産『風流踊り』を構成する行事『鬼剣舞』のうちの一つです。
北上和賀地方に伝わる鬼剣舞の源流。起源は大宝年間（701〜704）に修験の祖である役の行者小角が念仏を唱えながら踊ったのが始まりとも、大同年間（806〜810）に羽黒山の法印善行院が大日如来の化身から悪魔退散・衆生済度の念仏踊りとして伝えられたともいわれている。北上和賀地方への伝承時期は不明だが、康平時代（1058〜65）、安部頼時の子の黒沢尻五郎正任がこの踊りを好み、将兵の出陣や凱旋の際に踊らせたのが広く伝わったといわれる。また享保17（1732）年の『念仏剣舞由来録』には、延文5（1360）年、岩崎城主の岩崎弥十郎が主君の和賀政義を城に招き、剣舞を踊らせたところ政義が大いに喜び、家紋の笹リンドウの使用を許したという記述がある。踊り手は8人が基本だが、演目によって1〜8人で踊る。踊り手は毛ザイをかぶり面を付け（白面が踊り手の中心）、平口袖の身ごろに広口袴。刀を帯び、腕に鎖かたびら、手甲、脚絆、白足袋に草鞋で、右手に扇、左手に赤い金剛杖をはさむ。演目は「一番庭」「一番庭の狂い」「刀剣舞」「八人加護」などで、独特な節回しの念仏が入るものもあるが、基本的には踊りに詩章はつかない。

What is "Iwasaki Oni Kembai" ? This is one of "Oni-kembai" events that make up the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage "Furyu Odori".
This is the origin of the Oni-Kembai dance in the Kitakami-waga region Iwate pref, Japan. It is said to have originated in the Taiho era (701-704) when En-no-Ozunu, the founder of Shugendo (mountain asceticism), danced while chanting, or in the Daido era (806-810) when Hagurosan Zenkoin, an incarnation of Dainichi Nyorai, introduced the dance as a prayer to drive out demons and help all sentient beings.
Although the timing of its transmission is uncertain, it is said that during the Kouhei period (1058-65), Kurosawajiri Goro Masatoh took a liking to this dance and had it performed when his soldiers went to battle or made a triumphal return, and it became widely known. According to the "Nembutsu Kembai Yurai Roku" (Records of the Origin of the Kembai Dance) of 1732, in 1360, Iwasaki Yajuro, lord of Iwasaki Castle, invited his lord, Waga Masayoshi, to the castle and had him dance the sword dance, to the great delight of Masayoshi, who allowed him to use the family crest, Sasa(banboo)-Rindoh(Gentian).
