Ortofon’s top ellipticals moving magnet cartridges.
Prior to the release of the M15E cartridge (1969), Ortofon only produced Moving Coil cartridges.
The M15E and M15E Super (1973) are moving magnet cartridges, but Ortofon replaced the heavy, solid magnet with a thin magnetic tube that fit over the end of the cantilever. Similar to Empire’s magnetic cone, the moving element was significantly lighter than the standard solid magnet. This design was used in all of Ortofon’s “VMS” moving magnet models. The Ortofon elliptical stylus was introduced in 1964 and claimed to “add a new dimension to sound recreation”. It was used in their top models until the 1980’s when other stylus shapes were available.
I like the retro sound of the first two, especially the first has a round fullness to it. Excellent video.
Agree!
Hello Vinyl Translator.
Nice collections for your cartdriges...and great video.
I have an Ortofon 2M Black and THORENS TD 125 MKII with original tonearm.
No problems azimouth with Shibata diamond.
Sound is very exellent...!!!
Ortofon m15 has life life life vms 200 dull warm flat others are boring
Have to say my favorites were the vintage ones(1&2). The blue sounded more detailed though.
I really dig the Blue. Another great video, Keep'em spinning!🎉🎉🎉
The extra punch on those opening drum strikes with the M15E is amazing.
@@gsherlock I do agree
Hello Vinyl Translato.
I would chose the om20.
What did you like the most?
Hi, nice collection. I find it hard to compare given we are listening to vinyl over UA-cam. I have the VMS20e MkII and find that it is beautiful with voice, strings, piano. Superb mid-range. Thanks.
Do you have a blog where you can chat? I thank you for ALL your videos, which are excellent. I would love to ask your opinion on cartridge selection!
I only have this channel. Creating these videos takes a lot of time and I only review comments when ever I take a break which is not that frequent. Feel free to use the comments feature. I may not get to them right away, but I'll do my best.
@@vinyltranslators3730 Can I call you V.T.? If I may ask you, what you think of the Shure V15-3 w/ a Jico SAS stylus? I was considering a Grado Platinum3 MI for a change. I believe they have a higher output, 5mv Vs. 3.5mv. Maybe a bit more bottom end? Thank You very much. God Bless.
Here's a comparison of the Jico SAS/Boron vs the V15III-MR: ua-cam.com/video/5NQjoXRqjRg/v-deo.html
2М Blue is good
So I've been meaning to ask you, since you own and have heard so many carts, which one is your "just one cart on a desert island" favorite?
I reserved 2 headshells for my "permanent" cartridges. I haven't swapped them out for almost 2 years. One is the Shure ML140HE and the other is the Stanton 981HZS. My favorite (according to my ears) is the Shure. It has a full, rich sound that excels with vocals and jazz music.
Nice video again. Though I would not compare Ortofon OM cartridge to a VMS or 2M. The OM was a visually appealing design, although soundwise it was a downgrade compared to VMS/FF line. It was later mitigated by the SuperOM body, which is effectively the basis of the 2M body. The OM body sounds inferior to the SuperOM and 2M bodies, there is more air and detailes in the former two of them.
Doesn't seem tight enough to the headshell you can see gaps. you really want to tighten it as much as possible without breaking it.
if you move the rack say 8" at 90° to the other floorboard, or the support you're not on a support at the moment doesn't look like, it should be better for it sonically and when moving about.
May be an azimuth correction for the reason why it’s that way. So, the gap may be deliberately set.
Om20 +1
