One thing I love about this anime is The Great Tomb of Nazarick weren't even the strongest guild in game. Also unlike certain other game based anime this game actually feels like a real MMO.
Well, it wasnt the strongest, but being Top 8 in the most popular game in the world is pretty strong. Also having 11 world items... out of 200 in the whole game...
You can tell that the author was a big D&D tabletop fan by the level of customization he wrote into his fictional online RPG. Sadly, no one has even attempted a tabletop level of customization in a computer RPG. I bet it's due to DM judgement being a thing, so without some other method of balancing you'd need to basically have an AI that would qualify as a real person.. which of course is dangerous when they decide to destroy all meatbags.
Or the amount of the storage needed on the game is so much it could make your computer explode like a nuke or that level of customization is just not available yet

And if it were to be made into a desktop game, it would lose all substance. The drag, attraction of yggdrasil was the fact it was a sword art online like game. One in which you can experience the scenery and the world as if it were real life. Feel the flowers and the wind so to speak. Conventional desktop dnd like games like wow never appealed to me the same way. WOW is about sitting in a chair and spending hours grinding in a game where fighting mechanics are not determined by raw PVP skill. A waste of time. Exploring this land and conquering it, which beholding its wonder and glory, with battles where you prove your worth against other players. That's what's Yggdrasil's all about.
There's a detail you missed in your research it seems. Should a party defeat a Guild Dungeon on their first attempt, they're granted immensely more rewards than they would otherwise have gotten, including in NPC points. This is what happened with Nazarick, and is one of the reasons other players had such difficulty trying to take over their guild.
Yeah. The won guilds have a limited amount of points allotted towards NPC creation. By clearing a guild dungeon on the first try, you'd gain a lot more points towards NPC creation for that conquerred guild.

I'm not sure how popular or profitable such a brutal high risk high reward game would be. Losing years of progress due to a miscalculation sounds like a major turn off for the casuals who are needed to sustain such a game with the variety Yggdrasil offers. The snowballing of power is an acquired taste as most people give up once an enemy group amasses too much power. Runescape and Eve online come to mind as hard core 'winner take all games" that succeeded, though they're growth capacity is severely limited compared to more casual MMOs like Guild wars 2 and WoW. As much crap as WoW gets, they have perpetually managed to be the most profitable MMO RPG in history for a decade and a half, regardless if it appeals to scrubs, because that's how the free market works.
I do so admire the time and dedication to putting these videos together. As an avid fan of Overlord I LOVE watching these and learning about the INSANE extent of world building and game building that went into this. Its really cool and bravo for taking the time to give it to us in nice little bite sized videos. Thanks a lot my good sir. Keep up the great work!
a few things you got wrong and missed out the hate value isn't displayed during combat, its a hidden value that only experienced tanks like bukubukuchagama can properly manage World enemies are not on par with world items, they far surpass them in terms of power being the first to concur a level 85+ dungeon earned Ainz Ooal Gown the "Throne of Kings" world item, it massively increases the npc cap for a guild base
havent read it in a few weeks but from what i remember after concurring nazarick they are trying to figure out why the base had such a high cap they assumed it was cus it was a first try clear and they got a bonus of 1750 levels but then ainz sits in throne and the status effect "throne of kings" popped up and he saw its effects and it shocked him, the effects are never outright stated but its most likely that the effects are a bonus 1750 to npc levels and a power boost to members within the throne's range

I love the idea of this game so much. It combines everything people who like to game would like. You have the straight up mmo factors, the insanely complex character build potential, world exploration, dungeon clearing, farming, pvp, and the ability to customize literally everything around you to your exact specifications like a sim game. There is something in it for everyone and its such a huge game that even after years and years of running, tons of its secrets remain unknown.
There are a lot more divine class items in the Tomb of Nazarik than you mentionend. For once Momonga has a full set of Divine class items for his necromance build. Also the more powerful members of Ainz Ooal Gown also had full sets which they gave to Momonga when they left the game. The total number is probably somewhere up to 50 or 60.
sYn well in the youtubers defence he did not say that there were only that many divine class items in nazarick he only said that those were the divine class items whos name we know although i would have liked it if he mentioned that their are many others that we dont know about.
Yeah that was exactly what I was getting at. The amount of divine class items is after all in combination with the guild building and the amount of World Class Items one of the most important stats of the guild regarding their power.
Imagine the new worlds reaction to a world class enemy. They view major members of nazarick as deities and a world enemy makes him and a small army of the similar level players question weather or not they should.
This series is so good! Happy overlord is still growing in fans!! Now that we got a season 3 we demand a season 4! Ainz ooal gown does not know defeat!
So many of these mechanics would be amazingly fun in an actual MMO, some of the basic things like Hate and the item system would be fun for quality of life, but the guild dungeons and near-unbeatable difficult bosses that actually require good planning and teamwork would actually make MMORPGS worth playing again
Just with your explanation alone and only 4 videos into this play list, I already feel like this is a game we could actually play today. If anything, I hope when we do get fulldive technology this will be our first dmmo-rpg for that style of gaming lol.
I really need to catch up on the light novels, im only on Book 6 so im a bit behind. Overlord is probably my favorite anime of all time. Not because of the Anime Adaptation but also the story itself. I've watch hundreds of anime yet nothing compares to this in my person opinion. I may love it so much because at the time I was in a dark place when I found overlord, but all I gotta say is that I'm glad you made this video and I can see how much effort you put into it. I personally am not a fan of the anime but am a fan of the books the anime just leaves to much out but im gald that you can enjoy it where i cannot and im also glad that it helped you during your dark times.
Petra Marbun Renner is on par/slightly below Albedo, Demiurge and Pandora's actor when it comes to intelligence. If she were more intelligent than the other three, she could be considered to be a threat as she might see deeper into Ainz's non-existant plans and predict what Ainz will do.
Trent Myers Light Novel. Renner is the most intelligent human in the series. Albedo and Renner have even met and spoke about their love interests. Demiurge also likes Renner. In episode 2 of the third season, Demiurge was refrencing Renner during his explanation of Ainz's plan and how the situation in Re:estize is unfavorable apart from one individual.

Touch Me was one of the Top 3 players in Yggdrasil and said to be able to fight all Floor Guardians at the same time and roughly win. How fucking powerful was he lmao
I think he wasn't neccesarily much more powerful than the other players in the guild, just much more dedicated to becoming skilled in combat and tweaked his build to help. Dedication+time and practice will = skill 9 times out of 10. the 1 time it doesn't, the practice is simply being done wrong.
If anyone wants to play and rpg like this, the closes one I've found is called B100X. It's available on PC, Andriod and IOS. There are about 30 different going from rank 1-3. Every item has data slots that can be fitted with attributes and tons of unique effects. Different dungeons with their own unique buffs/debuff and items. And it has story that's delivered along with your progression. The combat is auto so it's a bit like AFK games but I really recommend it.
I play this and uh.... When going for a certain build just... Just give up unless you want to mindlessly be slogging away at certain things for hours or days on end to get that one .0000000007% chance drop that only happens on Winter cuz whilst yes you might as well be one of the strongest players with that item..... *You fucking pay for that shit with your SOUL*

6:46 I wonder why Cocytus used the God Slaying Emperor Blade on Zaryūsu and the other Lizardmen, which is a Devine Class Item, instead of his Decapitation Fang Halberd, the weapon he usually carries with him? Maybe it was his way of honoring them.

Whenever you begin to get into character profiles, I've always wanted to know if it was fleshed out in the novels~ What was Albedo's character profile that makes her seem so lustful and demon one end, yet powerful and "soft" on another. I get the impression that if you're part of the guild (depending who you are) she's like a firm caring leader, but if you're an enemy/not part of the guild you're considering fodder/food/rubbish to her
NobleHusky if i am not mistaken, albedo is a succubus which gives her lustful attitudes not to mention momonga's character change. We should also take note that all the npc are made and programmed by the supreme beings which made the npc ever loyal and faithful to them. About the latter concern, the guild, ains oal gown, has members only consisting of characters with heteromorphic race (races which are not human nor even human in nature like demi humans) which further created npc having the nature to despise human even if their creators doesn't literally hate humans. Another point is that in order to be a member of ains oal gown, first you should be on heteromorphic race and next should be that you have this hate on how reality works. This created the guild intimately talking about their real lives and struggles on work and their family just like how herohero and momonga talk on the very first episode of overlord.
Why Smile The two requirements to become a member of Ainz Ooal Gown were: 1) Playing as a Heteromorph 2) Being an active member of society And then there was the third, hidden condition. 3) Majority voted on accepting you into the guild.
Great videos I have been reading Overlord for years now n it’s written very Tolkien, Martin, Sanderson like. (Lord of the rings, A song of ice and fire [game of thrones], Stormlight Archive) they all manage to cram in explicit detail on everything n it bring the story to life. Sometimes it’s nice to have a quick overview so I can just dive right into the new work.
To be honest, Overlord did miss a few details, for example, it didn't mention whether the time zone of the sixth floor was different or similar if not the same as the time zone of the new world, but some parts that suggested that it was similar to the new world, such as the time when foresight was teleported into the coliseum, or when Momonga went outside of nazarick not long after meeting the majority of the floor guardians in the amphitheatre.

Try reading the light novel if ever you haven't. You'll see the real overlord behind the anime. It's an interesting book series that even teaches readers how to deal with work and life struggles.
Thats natural most of the anime is a poor adaptation and some of it makes me rage on why they left out and change certain thing and kept in others like the lizard sex scine for example they decided to keep that in but leave out and change certain othrs and they even made complex and interesting characters one dimantional and bland.
this anime makes so sad and it ties into the real life because like all the money and time they put into the guild to be the top players just for momonga to be the last one to sit at the table, reminds me a lot like when i used to play videogames like my Minecraft server, and other games all the grind and one day you leave it all behind, I got obsessed with warframe because it had the same feeling as this anime, but then became too much of a grind and our guild broke apart and the group only talk because of the game as soon as we stopped playing the game no one talk to each other anymore we all went to play different games.... it makes me so sad and i do feel for my lord momonga

Quality vs Quantity way. They eventually came on top of the server. The only known guild to be formed by the merging of others ones. World Searcher: Ranked as Number 2 - the bugusers\the adventure searchers\ the ones to get new info about the game first. Essentially an adventure guild, lol, taking quests from real people and undertaking their own ones. Specialized in abusing the system of Yggdrasil at their own advantage. 2ch Alliance: Ranked as Number 3 - once the biggest guild stomping others by sheer number of members ( around 3000), until developers decided to implement 100 member cap rule for guilds. Then they become leaders of alliance of 1000 affiliated guilds. It had some signs of serious decline in activity due to internal struggle and obstructions in line of command. Their glory is long gone, all their world items were stolen by other guilds. Still, they would readily force others to even more humiliation than the one they got into themselves if provoked (Which was abused by other guilds such as Ainz Ooal Gown to weaken their competitors) Ainz Ooal Gown: Ranked as Number 9.

Suggestion: When speaking about world items video, mention the existence of the twenty, which are powerful world items that can on,y be used once on a enemy before disappearing to be found again. One of these weapons was the spear of Longinus, said to have been the spear that killed Christ. This spear, which is in Nazarick’s possession, has the power to, with the sacrifice of one’s self, erase the existence of any enemy or any being of any level. This is not counterable except for the power of other world class resurrection items.
Wouldn't owning a certain job class or possessing your own World Class Item counter the effect? For my understanding, the effects of World Class Items can't be countered by any means only when Ouroboros and Five Elements Overcoming were to be used at the same time.

Actually, If I remember correctly the extra NPC levels were seperate to the Throne of Kings, the throne causes some status effect when sitting on it.

I love the idea of this game so much. It combines everything people who like to game would like. You have the straight up mmo factors, the insanely complex character build potential, world exploration, dungeon clearing, farming, pvp, and the ability to customize literally everything around you to your exact specifications like a sim game. There is something in it for everyone and its such a huge game that even after years and years of running, tons of its secrets remain unknown.
There are a lot more divine class items in the Tomb of Nazarik than you mentionend. For once Momonga has a full set of Divine class items for his necromance build. Also the more powerful members of Ainz Ooal Gown also had full sets which they gave to Momonga when they left the game.
The total number is probably somewhere up to 50 or 60.
sYn well in the youtubers defence he did not say that there were only that many divine class items in nazarick he only said that those were the divine class items whos name we know although i would have liked it if he mentioned that their are many others that we dont know about.
Yeah that was exactly what I was getting at. The amount of divine class items is after all in combination with the guild building and the amount of World Class Items one of the most important stats of the guild regarding their power.

Imagine the new worlds reaction to a world class enemy. They view major members of nazarick as deities and a world enemy makes him and a small army of the similar level players question weather or not they should.

So many of these mechanics would be amazingly fun in an actual MMO, some of the basic things like Hate and the item system would be fun for quality of life, but the guild dungeons and near-unbeatable difficult bosses that actually require good planning and teamwork would actually make MMORPGS worth playing again

I really need to catch up on the light novels, im only on Book 6 so im a bit behind. Overlord is probably my favorite anime of all time. Not because of the Anime Adaptation but also the story itself. I've watch hundreds of anime yet nothing compares to this in my person opinion. I may love it so much because at the time I was in a dark place when I found overlord, but all I gotta say is that I'm glad you made this video and I can see how much effort you put into it. Trent Myers princess Renner is the smartest person in NW. Then comes demiurge and albedo behind. afaik.
Petra Marbun Renner is on par/slightly below Albedo, Demiurge and Pandora's actor when it comes to intelligence. If she were more intelligent than the other three, she could be considered to be a threat as she might see deeper into Ainz's non-existant plans and predict what Ainz will do.

Trent Myers Light Novel. Renner is the most intelligent human in the series. Albedo and Renner have even met and spoke about their love interests. Demiurge also likes Renner. In episode 2 of the third season, Demiurge was refrencing Renner during his explanation of Ainz's plan and how the situation in Re:estize is unfavorable apart from one individual.

I think he wasn't neccesarily much more powerful than the other players in the guild, just much more dedicated to becoming skilled in combat and tweaked his build to help. Dedication+time and practice will = skill 9 times out of 10. the 1 time it doesn't, the practice is simply being done wrong.

The more I hear about the mechanics and features of the game the more I wish it would exist.
If anyone wants to play and rpg like this, the closes one I've found is called B100X. It's available on PC, Andriod and IOS. There are about 30 different going from rank 1-3. Every item has data slots that can be fitted with attributes and tons of unique effects. Different dungeons with their own unique buffs/debuff and items. And it has story that's delivered along with your progression. The combat is auto so it's a bit like AFK games but I really recommend it.
I play this and uh.... When going for a certain build just... Just give up unless you want to mindlessly be slogging away at certain things for hours or days on end to get that one .0000000007% chance drop that only happens on Winter cuz whilst yes you might as well be one of the strongest players with that item..... *You fucking pay for that shit with your SOUL*

Whenever you begin to get into character profiles, I've always wanted to know if it was fleshed out in the novels~
What was Albedo's character profile that makes her seem so lustful and demon one end, yet powerful and "soft" on another.
I get the impression that if you're part of the guild (depending who you are) she's like a firm caring leader, but if you're an enemy/not part of the guild you're considering fodder/food/rubbish to her
NobleHusky if i am not mistaken, albedo is a succubus which gives her lustful attitudes not to mention momonga's character change. We should also take note that all the npc are made and programmed by the supreme beings which made the npc ever loyal and faithful to them. About the latter concern, the guild, ains oal gown, has members only consisting of characters with heteromorphic race (races which are not human nor even human in nature like demi humans) which further created npc having the nature to despise human even if their creators doesn't literally hate humans. Another point is that in order to be a member of ains oal gown, first you should be on heteromorphic race and next should be that you have this hate on how reality works. This created the guild intimately talking about their real lives and struggles on work and their family just like how herohero and momonga talk on the very first episode of overlord.
Why Smile The two requirements to become a member of Ainz Ooal Gown were:
1) Playing as a Heteromorph
2) Being an active member of society
And then there was the third, hidden condition.
3) Majority voted on accepting you into the guild.

Great videos I have been reading Overlord for years now n it’s written very Tolkien, Martin, Sanderson like. (Lord of the rings, A song of ice and fire [game of thrones], Stormlight Archive) they all manage to cram in explicit detail on everything n it bring the story to life. Sometimes it’s nice to have a quick overview so I can just dive right into the new work.
To be honest, Overlord did miss a few details, for example, it didn't mention whether the time zone of the sixth floor was different or similar if not the same as the time zone of the new world, but some parts that suggested that it was similar to the new world, such as the time when foresight was teleported into the coliseum, or when Momonga went outside of nazarick not long after meeting the majority of the floor guardians in the amphitheatre.
@@deontaeavila3514 to be honest i havent read either martin or overlord over the past 4 years, mainly bc it has stalled for me. So i moved on. N you are correct if an author forgets something simple as timing it can be VERY jarring to the reader.

Thats natural most of the anime is a poor adaptation and some of it makes me rage on why they left out and change certain thing and kept in others like the lizard sex scine for example they decided to keep that in but leave out and change certain othrs and they even made complex and interesting characters one dimantional and bland.

The more I watch these the more its astounding that a guild of only around 41 managed to be a top 10
It's also astounding that the tomb of ainz oowl gown succeeded in fending off a siege of roughly 1500 players + a large number of mercenary NPCs.
this anime makes so sad and it ties into the real life because like all the money and time they put into the guild to be the top players just for momonga to be the last one to sit at the table, reminds me a lot like when i used to play videogames like my Minecraft server, and other games all the grind and one day you leave it all behind, I got obsessed with warframe because it had the same feeling as this anime, but then became too much of a grind and our guild broke apart and the group only talk because of the game as soon as we stopped playing the game no one talk to each other anymore we all went to play different games.... it makes me so sad and i do feel for my lord momonga

Quality vs Quantity way. They eventually came on top of the server. The only known guild to be formed by the merging of others ones.
World Searcher: Ranked as Number 2 - the bugusers\the adventure searchers\ the ones to get new info about the game first. Essentially an adventure guild, lol, taking quests from real people and undertaking their own ones. Specialized in abusing the system of Yggdrasil at their own advantage.
2ch Alliance: Ranked as Number 3 - once the biggest guild stomping others by sheer number of members ( around 3000), until developers decided to implement 100 member cap rule for guilds. Then they become leaders of alliance of 1000 affiliated guilds. It had some signs of serious decline in activity due to internal struggle and obstructions in line of command. Their glory is long gone, all their world items were stolen by other guilds. Still, they would readily force others to even more humiliation than the one they got into themselves if provoked (Which was abused by other guilds such as Ainz Ooal Gown to weaken their competitors)

zenox bagaan well theres a difference between rip of and inspired and i do belive that the games magic system is inspired and not ripped of from what i read of the books and played d&d the magic systems are qwite different enough to fall into the inspired category.
BlueBeamProductions actually the overlord animes magic system is horrible but the books magic system is great if you watch the anime it barely explains its magic system at all.

Suggestion: When speaking about world items video, mention the existence of the twenty, which are powerful world items that can on,y be used once on a enemy before disappearing to be found again. One of these weapons was the spear of Longinus, said to have been the spear that killed Christ. This spear, which is in Nazarick’s possession, has the power to, with the sacrifice of one’s self, erase the existence of any enemy or any being of any level. This is not counterable except for the power of other world class resurrection items.
Wouldn't owning a certain job class or possessing your own World Class Item counter the effect? For my understanding, the effects of World Class Items can't be countered by any means only when Ouroboros and Five Elements Overcoming were to be used at the same time.
