Great reaction Jen, And You look like a Star-Trek crew, lol
Loved both but the data heavy episodes are always great so that one by a whisker 🖖
Schizoid Man for sure, and you are right Geordie loves Data the way any guy loves his best homie. It’s one of the best relationships in trek.
Not saying anything wrong with ' loud as a whisper' but the schizoid man was better--- the near warp transport and when they jump to warp and left graves out in space.
Not saying anything wrong with ' loud as a whisper' but the schizoid man was better--- the near warp transport and when they jump to warp and left graves out in space.
Interestingly the actor that played Riva is deaf. He was the one that approached the producers with the idea for this episode .
It's among my favorite TNG episodes. So sincere, so passionate, so hopeful.
@@jblitzen Cool.
WHEN I STROKE THE BEARD, THUSLY
That line always gets me. lol. I use it myself sometimes because of it.
😂this is up there with some of Tuvok's best one liners
I prefer Data's eulogy. It was Oscar worthy.
I saw Jordi at a Star Trek convention. When asked about his actual visor he said it went missing after the final shoot of TNG. He also said that when his daughters needed to go to college it may show up on Ebay.
He had to wear that thing for 7 seasons, it should have just been given to him without "someone" having to steal it. Or maybe that happened unofficially because of cranky studioheads.
You're right. Brent Spiner kills it as Data. His character probably has more variation throughout the show than anyone else.
It wasn't really until the second time I watched TNG that I noticed how awesome Data is. Probably the most capable crewmember. A great story arc of wanting to become human. And as you said, with all the personalities that inhabit Data throughout the series I think the range of performances from Brent Spiner are so fun to watch!
Exactly! Data isn’t just a generic stock character, Brent Spiner brought soooo much life to that role and proved what incredible range he has an actor.
Brent Spiner is truly one of the most underrated actors of the 90s. from his guest appearances on Night Court, to Data, to his role in Independence Day, he just kills it.
Brent said in an interview a long time ago, he was so thrilled to have a chance to explore the idea of his character so much throughout the years and TNG episodes.
All stopped, and everyone in unison saying DATA, when Independence Day film came out. My foster mum, OH MY GOD you NERDS and then laughed as she realised she was too.
@@SirChaosS On my gosh! I wasn't thinking about Night Court! He was so funny on that show, right along with everyone else.
Picard using the tried and trusted technique of shouting at the deaf guy
@karlwest437 I know really , i recall this episode i don't remember if i laughed out loud at that moment but i certainly am just thinking about it now !! 😅 Dammit do you not hear my BOOMING THEATRICAL VOICE !!? .
Picard and Data have most of the best episodes in TNG. Episodes centered around them are usually quite good.
I was freaking out, I thought Jen wasn't Star Trekking today. Deep breaths everybody she will be here in about 15 mins.
"One does not simply fail to Trek into Sunday. There are VISORS there, that cannot see. And always the Great Guy, stroking thusly.
The uh, the beard, thusly."
3:26 - “The anarchy of lust!“
I can’t with the little shoulder shrugs 🤣
Brent's performance in The Schizoid Man is brilliant and occasionally frightening. One of the rare occasions Brent gets to have a bit more fun. Thanks so much for managing to get these passed for the Next Jen livestream today! 😁
You know it's going to be a good episode when they give Brent some breathing room to basically whatever he wants with a character.
@@Augoeides32 Totally agree, it must've been a blast just being around him between takes.
He even changed his posture and gait.
Makes me happy the way you talk about your feelings towards Data and Picard!
My partner and I chanted "One of us! One of us!" in excitement, hahah!
🖖😆
Lt. Selar (the Vulcan doctor in The Schizoid Man) is played by Suzie Plakson, who has played a number of different roles across several Star Trek series.
"I wasn't talking about the puppy."
I really like the episodes where they focus on Data. Especially the ones where they define just how alive and unique he is.
Yeey, O'Brian! Always happy to see him on TNG.
And Dr. Selar!
i love seeing your growing collection of star trek shirts! you've become a trekkie! one of us! one of us!
The woman in the choir trio is the wife of Q in real life. They mentioned her son didn't think she did well because she let herself get killed off. John de Lance (Q) has a recuring role that can keep comming back.
She is?!
Then DeLacie's sons voiced the aliens in Alien Voices - First Men on the Moon, so he ate a giant slice of humble pie 😅
The older gentleman in the "Chorus" is the original "Pinhead" from the Hellraiser series Doug Bradley.
Oh, neat.
Was also in a later TNG ep and the Zindi arc in Enterprise.
YAY! For a minute I thought we weren't gonna get our Star Trek Sunday fix. 😁
Has anyone mentioned that Diana Muldar (Dr. Pulaski) guest-starred in two 5-year mission episodes? Did I mention they were two EXCELLENT episodes?
Return to tomorrow
In truth is there no beauty?
I just didn't want it to go unsaid. :D
love the channel!
I legit didn't expect you to watch all of TNG. But I am so glad you are!
She left out one of the best quotes: "I can safely say, to know him, was to love him... And to love him, was to know him... Those who knew him, loved him... While those who did not know him, loved him from afar."
It's so curious to see you wondering what will happen in the "future" of a show that ended 30 years ago and that I've watched repeatedly when I was a child, thank you for giving me once again the ability to experience that feeling of wonder through your eyes about what will happen with these characters.
Jen, love these Next-Jen, Next-gen Sundays! 😊 Your viewing community is quite generous, your Star Fleet apparel seems to be growing at a substantial rate! Honestly, kinda jealous. Thanks again Jen! Can't wait for more...Eric 😊
Fun Fact: The Lady in Rivas' Chorus is Marnie Mosiman who is married to John DeLancie who plays Q. The actor who plays Ira Graves is
W. Morgan Sheppard who would go onto play many other characters in Star Trek.
I'll never get tired of you humming along with the theme song. :) It's such a beautiful piece, and I love that you love it so much. Another great set of reactions. Can't reiterate how happy I am you're reacting to the entire series. I haven't seen the show through fresh eyes in a very long time. Thank you!
I love that Jen's so into the music in all of her reactions. I just imagine her having this huge library of film and television soundtracks.
Agreed, Geordie is the one character who has always been the most relatable in TNG. Rich Wvans said it best when he said that Geordie is the one person in TNG universe that might befriend a Star Trek fan.
GEORDI
Any character in the Star Trek Universe would be honored to befriend Dick, the birthday boy! 🎂
Geordi is in pain because his brain is bombarded with far more visual information than the optic center of the human brain is evolved to handle.
Sensory overload of the worst kind.
I love Commander Jennifer's love for TNG. I concur with her assessment of Data and Picard. And I love her USS Enterprise sweater, too!
"I mean I assume...Commercial Break...I assume that can't happen." lol
Jen, you are a treasure.
Jen, I so LOVE your energy and enthusiasm for TNG and Star Trek in general.🥰😘
Data is like the opposite of Spock. He possesses what Spock strives for his whole life, but wants to be more human.
Suzie Plakson who played the tall Vulcan dr. Selar played 4 different characters in 3 different Star Trek shows and the best ones are yet to come.
Never forgotten.
"It's not! He's got an old man inside him!"
If I had a nickel for everytime...
Brent Spiner (Data) also appears in both Independence Day films. fyi.
32:19 Mark! 1.8K Thumbs Up + Mine! 👍 You're welcome, and thanks! ☺️
Notes: Another charming video! 😊
You make good points!
Lolita Fatjo, I think I met her in OKC, not Tulsa. At the time, because of the Oklahoma Summer heat, she was wearing short shorts and a halter top and boots, and she wasn't with the actor that played "Rom" yet. When they did become a couple, she didn't dress like that anymore. But anyway, I wanted her autograph, but I didn't already have something for her to sign. So she took me around the convention floor looking for something with her image. We finally found something, I bought it, and she signed it and posed for a picture with me. After that convention, I noticed that the others began having pictures available at their tables. Serendipity? 🤔
Brent Spiner & Colm Meaney, both appreciated that I had seen them in movies that the others never asked about. For Brent it was his version of "Rent Control" and for Colm it was something about buttons I think. I was thinking of "The Pushcart War" because I had read the book. 🤔
Suzie? She would get the audience to help her prank the other celebrities! 😂
I can easily say these have become the highlight of Sunday and I look forward to them all week.
Great reactions, once again, from Jen.
And what a great performance from Brent Spiner in The Schizoid Man! :)
It's easy to forget just how old this she is. The TOS ended just before I was born, and this one started when I was 17 and ended when I was 24. Now I'm 54.
I was feeling a little bummed out about stuff, then I remembered it was Star Trek Sunday! You and your TNG trek reactions always make my day Jen 😊
Loud As A Whisper features the Picard Head Grab.
It is such a pleasure to watch TNG with Jen,. It's almost like watching it for the first time, altough i have seen those episodes so many times (many years ago.)
Looking forward to this as always Sundays don't exist without next Jen 🖖 jenterprise warp speed ahead
Getting a "thank you, good job" from a boss you respect is such a HUGE deal it can't be understated.
Loud as a Whisper is one of my personal favorites.
Another great episode that touches on La Forge's blindness and his comfort with it, as he and Riva bonds over their similarities.
Once the collars appear on the uniforms, you'll definitely come around to Riker's beard
I hardly watch UA-cam anymore and especially avoid reactors. But you've stolen my heart, Jen and I really enjoy your dive into something that defined my childhood with TNG. Biggest admirations.
17:07 Listening to Jennypenny laugh heartily is one of life’s true joys. 🥰
Doug Bradley (the logical part of the Chorus) was also in a later TNG ep and the Zindi arc in Enterprise.
The great Suzi Plakson (the Vulcan) turns up in various parts in Trek.
The actor playing Ira Graves was also the Klingon head warden at Uhra Pente in Star Trek VI.
Fun fact. The actor playing Dr. Graves in Schizoid Man also played the prison warden on the penal asteroid in Star Trek VI (the one that says "Since you are going to die anyway, why not tell you?" before Kirk and McCoy are beamed back to the Enterprise).
Was also in the Voyager ep with the monster that swallowed the ship.
Wow i didn't know that.
FYI; the actress who plays the part of the Vulcan in Schizoid Man, plays another role, later in TNG. Also, the actor who plays Old man, Dr. Gray also had a role in two of the Star Trek movies. As well as a role in Season one of the TV series, Babylon 5.
Patrick Stewart is a great actor. Love watching your reactions to this series.
18:38 Mark! Sigh. Of the four that just beamed down, Marina is the only one whom I never met in person. We would've met had it not been for the OKC bombing causing buildings throughout the downtown area to need at least windows, including frames, to be repaired or replaced. Her convention appearance was postponed. When she finally was able to appear, my friend got to meet her then, while I was forced to miss out! 😢
Coincidentally enough, by the time we met Michael, CAPs were routinely flying over Tulsa because of 9/11. Out of all the guests, he was the only pilot, so he flew to Tulsa with his own private airplane! 😎
Dear Jen with every Episode you will watch Picard, Data, Worf, Riker, Troi, Geordi, Beverly will become more and more a Family for you and for themself.
"Anarchy of Lust". Great band name.
Space-innuendo. 🤣
24:02 "It's not. He's got an old man inside him" - my dirty mind made me chuckle.
I love the Data episodes too. 🥰 I love the negotiation episode because we get a glimpse of how other worlds approach problems and structure their societies; that's always cool to me. Loved your commentary on these, Jen! Well done exploring these stories. ☺
It's become something of a tradition for me to sit down on a Sunday, with my evening meal and enjoy Jen's legendary Star Trek reactions!
The Vulcan you noticed is Suzie Plakson, she'll make a return later in the series as a different, much more important character.
There's a classic Dr Pulaski episode coming next week, looking forward to that!
Both of these are very good. Loud as a Whisper is one of my favorite lesser known episodes. It's so unique. Also, Data is my favorite too. Brent Spiner gets to do lots of cool things in this series.
Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry created Data based partly on Mr. Spock, for his logical and unemotional personality and on “Questor”, an advanced android from Roddenberry’s 1974 TV pilot, The Questor Tapes”. In that pilot, Questor’s programming is tampered with by the scientists building him, thereby erasing, among other things, the human emotions he was to receive. He is therefore forced to partner with a human to achieve his true purpose in the film. I would recommend a viewing of 1974’s “The Questor Tapes”. It’s as intelligent as the original and next gen Trek.
I think it must have been in Brent Spiner's contract that he has to have at least one episode per season where he gets to show off his acting range. As a side note, Brent Spiner actually released a jazz album called "Ol' Yellow Eyes is Back".
I remember that! The title was an homage to Frank Sinatra's album, "Ol' Blue Eyes is Back."
Currently catching up your TNG reactions so I can watch this!
"Things are getting worse."
"That's not good."
Well...
...yeah.
Jen always dresses appropriately for her Trek reactions. You should try to get a gold shirt and complete your Starfleet uniform collection 😊
7:41 "I'm with you, Riker. I don't- I- I feel a little _off_ about this. But then I usually am kind of skeptical."
And a phaser on stun is _always_ a sensible precaution when you're beaming down to largely unknown circumstances.
I watched these new as a teenager, always loved watching them after school. Being GenX has been a blessing in more than a few ways, good to see others still enjoying it.
You continue to impress me Jen. You have fun just watching the episode. You’re in the moment. At the end you give such a sensitive insight into a handful of plot lines. I look forward to Monday morning with Jen.
Thank you :) I always look forward to Trek 🖖
good stuff Jen. yeah Brent Spiner is a national treasure.
13:52 He also respects her and her expertise and abilities.he
The first thing Geordi did when Doctor Crusher came aboard was talk to her about his VISOR, she was unable to help, so it makes sense, with a new Doctor, that the would ask the same thing.
Howie Seago was actually deaf.
real deaf actor and real Signs too
I love the journey you have in front of you with this series, the films and new Picard series.
Said it before, but here goes again, thanks for these, please keep em coming, :)
I think you would like the 1984 version of Dune. Patrick is in that movie, and there is a scene where he begs his boss for a chance to kill Sting,
Brent Spiner is a great actor. Loved him as Puck in Gargoyles
More! Was looking for a reason to watch TNG. I have a lot of it on VHS. lol
19:45 -- RE: Worf Gets Insulted; And that's Worf Delivers Shakespearean Aside +1.
Since Data uses the phrase in the eulogy, perhaps consider watching _A Man for All Seasons_ (1966). The story of Sir Thomas More's contentious relationship with King Henry VIII, it won six Oscars: Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and Best Costume Design. It stars Paul Scofield as Thomas More, and Robert Shaw (Quint in _Jaws_ ) as Henry VIII.
I wish that i could watch this show for the first time again. TNG is my favourite show ever.
TNG has some great story telling and while Riker had some good episodes and Worf had even more; it was basically the Picard and Data show. Their centric episodes were the best the show had to offer. Nothing punched you in the heart like a Data episode.
Always the one of the best parts of my Sundays! Love watching these with you.
Also, I don't know about anyone else, I never liked Dr. Pulaski.
Enter O'Brien (teleport room) become a main character later on ;)
O'Brien is one of my favourite characters on DS9
Yup, but he got his grounding here and where I first knew of his character@@quatz1981
15:38 Mark! Vaporization we saw in the original series. It gets confusing when PHASERs shooting that host infected with parasites has the same visual effect as the weapon used by the gnarly aliens in this episode! Later on, they would call it a "disintegrator ray" that is banned for how cruel it is because the people die relatively slowly. (Unless they called it a "disruptor"? In the original series, the natives of one planet and the Klingons used the same props that were called "Sonic Disruptors" by the natives but were "Energy Disruptors" when used by the Klingons. 🤷♂️. But in this episode, they said "LASERs"! So once again, there's a failure with continuity, I guess. 🤔
Watching Trek with the cutest reactor on YT.
Can't wait for episode 9. One of the best TNG episode ever. 😁
I really enjoy how into the intro music you get, reminds me of being a teenage and being so into it as well! Great reaction to these episodes as always!
I like TNG because I was a kid when it was on TV. Most star trek is good though. Thanks Jen keep up the great vids! Also DS9 will be a great series for you to see
Susie Plakson was a smart, beautiful Vulcan.
Geordi's pain is from the little implants in the flesh of his temples. I deduce that the VISOR transmits to the implants, which use his pain receptors like a modem to his brain.
He's not an admiralble character, he's only captainable.
Brilliant reaction once again!
This episode had the BEST phaser vaporization scene in Trek history; I love how the beam unraveled them layer by layer.
Like a Varon-T disruptor.
@@TroyConvers5000This was far more graphic though
@@TroyConvers5000 Yes, but this had a bit more creative blood/guts - as heinous as that Varon-T disrupter was, I think this was a more visually interesting vaporization. In a twisted way, of course.
Data is a functioning thing, and an individual, capable of meaningful interaction with self aware life forms.
I love Riva's costume. His is a cosplay I want to do. I usually skip the episode because it's a rough one, but it's sooo well done. And, like i said, I want Riva's wardrobe. The white and blue robes....
17:00 "You see, Counselor, in a few seasons, there will be poker scenes with Riker, Geordi, Worf and myself and I do not wish to be the only one at the table without a beard."
Stardate 2403.1
Excellent reaction again number one. Love the new sweatshirt. Thank you for your wonderful review of these two episodes.
I myself experienced a time warp last night, seem to have lost an hour, I’m going to be blaming the Romulans for this.
That Klingon doctor actress comes back as a different, more significant character later.
Data waking up at the end like Dorothy waking up at the end of The Wizard of Oz. And you were there, and you were there...
Miles O'Brien on transporter duty! sweet summer child...
