This is great! Most clear and easily understandable video I've came across so far. Especially regarding the saves. Wish I had this when it happened to me in the past. But glad it's here now. Haha thanks for this!
I have a cracked game and an error appeared on the game, i was so frustated .. then after a careful search, i found your video and it was helpful a lot! Thank you so much, you saved my life ❤
Oh nooo that's the worst! I lost a long-standing save file due to corruption once. Luckily it was before I started to record so I didn't have to worry about THAT aspect, just the overwhelming urge to delete my whole game after that lol. Since then I make so many back ups it's gross.
I watched your entire video but still i cannot manage to solve my issue T^T I updated the latest expansion packs and my saves / families totally disappeared, there's just one old slot but nothing for the new ones i spent HOURS making :'( is there anything i can do to restore those saves?
If you didn’t back up your game prior, then I’m honestly not sure. The only way I could think of would be to do a restore on your computer from an earlier date, but that would also require you to have created a save date with that.
so I repaired my game and I've lost all my hard work... I did try to recover using your methods but I didn't get my saves back so I was gonna just start over but I realize my mods are gone also.could you please help me
Unfortunately if the files are already gone and not backed up, there's not much that can be done. Did you back up your Sims 4 folder prior to repairing the game? Usually a repair shouldn't wipe out any files or mods, from my understanding. That usually only happens when you uninstall and then reinstall the game, or if something gets corrupted, etc. If you go to Documents - Electronic Arts - The Sims 4 - Mods, are your mods in that folder still? If so, the repair may have just turned them off in game and you may need to enable them again in your settings. (Also a lot of mods are broken after yesterday's patch, so there is that too!)
Did you drag your backed up files into your new set of Sims 4 folders? If you moved the files to a separate place, you'll want to go into your Documents folder, Electronic Arts, Sims 4 and make sure those files are empty. If those save files are empty due to the fresh install, you will then want to either C&P your backed up folders there OR drag and drop your backed up folders into your new Sims 4 folder.
@@AngeliaGames I saved the saves folder, the mods and trays. I save them on my desktop which is a MacBook then I installed the entire game on a hard drive because I was out of space and have an electronic arts folder with Sims four inside I thought I can just copy and paste those three folders into the new one and start the game but even when I do that when I load the game it still looks like I’m a new user.
@@MsAllen730 Hmm that's odd! I take it you still have the files you backed up separated - did you double check that those are all there IN those files? If so, I'd go back to where you just did the fresh install, delete those newly generated folders, and then C&P them again. Sometimes if you try to override things, it doesn't always work the greatest. Alternatively, you can open up those newly generated files (so the fresh install files) and then C&P all of your backups directly into it. For example, open your saves folder that you backed up and open the saves folder that was just created in the fresh install. Copy EVERYTHING from your backed up one, and then paste it into the new one.
@@AngeliaGames so I got frustrated and uninstalled everything again. I have a folder on my desktop labeled sims 4 backup should I be able to literally copy and paste the whole folder after I download the game again?
@@MsAllen730 As long as it's from what you backed up originally (and open the folders, make SURE they're your saves and such. You should be able to tell by the dates!) and then yes, you can backup to wherever you want as long as it's not the Sims 4 folder that your game launches from!
had to reinstall epic games because the files got messed up which deleted my sims 4 game for some reason even though I only bought 1 dlc from epic but ok anyway I luckily was able to save my save files, gallery, mods, etc thanks to this vid! thank you so much!!! 💙
I did the singular files at first and noticed that one had magically disappeared. I then pasted the entire game save into the Electronic Arts folder after clearing the new stuff out that was not mine. Started the Sims 4 up again and all of my stuff is not there. I'm not sure what I did wrong please help!
My game was stuck on the loading screen and I copied the files and named the old one “Electronic Arts old” and loaded the game again ans everything is lost. I think I fucked up is there anyway I can fix this?😭
Where did you copy the files to? It should be in the destination file that you copy & pasted to. And if you renamed, have you tried going to PC, Documents, and seeing if the "Electronic Arts old" file is in there?
Please help me! I copied my sims 3 folder and rename it sims 3 backup. Now I have 2 folders:the sims 3(empty one) and the backup(with everything). Should i continue with your tutorial, and just copy and paste backup file to desktop? And than paste everything into sims 3? Sorry,I am just a digital dummy.
I am honestly not as familiar with TS3 as I am with 4, my computer couldn't run it too well back in the day lol. It sounds like you have a backup somewhere on your computer from what you said, I'd put that where ever you want to store it. In your actual Sims folder (so likely documents - sims 3) I would C&P the contents of your backup into it. The game won't run from a folder that doesn't have the correct name (in this case, The Sims 3). So in your actual TS3 folder where the game runs from, make sure to C&P the contents of your backup folder into there so you can get your saves back. But again, I'm unfortunately not as versed with TS3 lol. But I know the game won't run from a folder if it's titled "backup" so it won't pull the info from there!
That just means the drive you are trying to put it on doesn't have enough space for your Sims folder. The game can take up a lot of space, so you'll probably need a larger external drive to put it on. My external drives are 1tb in space, but the game itself (for me at least!) is around 40gb. So as long as you have a decent amount free, you should then be able to plop it on there!
this vid just saved me i was crying thinking i lost five years of sims progress 🥹 also do you know how to fix the error that keeps popping up when i try to put anything down it says script call failed😭
@@laylafrl Mods are different than custom content. oh my goodness thank you so much 😭, this was the only place i found an answer to recover a save that wasnt the built-in way, and it worked so well ☺

That’s odd, it should definitely still be there. In your EA folder, are the saves and such still yours? Do you still have that backup?
so is it required to have a hard drive when backing up the sims to make things easier?
Nothing is required! I just like to have a source separate from my actual PC in case my computer crashes and I lose it.
