  • Malacca's captivating history traces back to Parameswara, a prince who fled to the region in the late 14th century. Enchanted by the courage of a white mouse deer, he founded a state, naming it after a tree he leaned against. Strategically located along the Straits of Malacca, it became a bustling trading center, attracting merchants from across the globe.
Parameswara's embrace of Islam in 1414 marked Malacca's emergence as a premier commercial hub and a center for spreading Islam in the region. Despite its prosperity, Malacca drew the attention of European powers, with the Portuguese seizing control in 1511, followed by the Dutch in 1641.
Over the centuries, Malacca changed hands multiple times, passing from the Portuguese to the Dutch and briefly to the British during the Napoleonic War. It finally became a British colony in 1824 under the Anglo-Dutch Agreement.
Under British rule, Malacca thrived as part of the Straits Settlements, enduring until Malaysia's independence in 1957. Led by Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, Malaya declared independence, marking the end of British colonial rule in the region.
