    I like the subtlety and simplicity of the cards that were just stamped on rather than the collaged cards. I like the colors you used here, soft, calm and fresh even if the background is vintage and a bit grungy. Love it!

      Seriously, in over ten years of daily making, I've maybe made cards once a year, if that... so I'm afraid it's not likely to happen often here either - sorry! But pretty much everything I make - like a tag, or the panels I often create, or even a journal page, can easily be converted to a card. In fact, a tag or a panel can just be trimmed and stuck onto folded card. I'm really happy you're learning lots... you can simply convert that learning to your preferred projects! Thanks so much for watching and commenting.

    Love these cards, in fact so much so that my next “play session” will be with this set that I have in my stash! I immediately fell in love with the simplicity of these images and had visions of a set of note cards. You have now given me a road map for the note cards. Thank you!

    I so agree with you about Red! I get the same reaction except on Christmas things. Maybe its the nurse in me but red equals blood to me, if anyone puts red splatters on something, I really shudder! Beautiful little cards. I love the simplicity and naturalness. Tfs x

    Another inspiring video, Alison 🥰 Thank you so much for sharing it. The cards are beautiful! I love it when you say, “let me clear the decks”….its a prelude to creativity and artistic intrigue! Red is a low frequency vibration, perhaps that’s why it vibrates you the wrong way when it comes to art and creativity? Violets, blues and greens vibrate at a higher frequency 💜💙🩵💚

    • @w0rdsandp1ctures
      @w0rdsandp1ctures  3 місяці тому +1

      Oh, interesting on the colour vibrations... I think it's also linguistic for me - when you "see red" you are getting angry, "like a red rag to a bull" - something that's going to anger him. It's built in to the English language!
      Happy you enjoyed the video - and yes, clearing the decks is big with me... ready to play. Happy Sunday to you.

    • @nikicooper4792
      @nikicooper4792 3 місяці тому +3

      Yes, I agree, it is built into our language isn’t it…like when you “see the red mist” in rage or anger. Red has never been a big contender for me either when it comes to art but I can appreciate it, just not so much in the things I create! I hope you are having a lovely start to your week 🙂

    • @w0rdsandp1ctures
      @w0rdsandp1ctures  3 місяці тому +1

      @@nikicooper4792 Yes, I often enjoy seeing others use it, but it feels all wrong when I do (with the honourable exception of the berries, of course, and a very occasional red rose!). All good so far, thank you, but it's about to become stupidly busy. Hope you have a great week.

    Hello Alison! YAY on MORE minutes of fun!!! I really love this idea of choosing something to enjoy creating with. I love your finished results using Tim Holtz products on those cards which could be used for so many purposes… I certainly need to move some of my favorite Tim items to the front burner - probably 2023’s Chapter 3 and all those various forms of 3x4 cards stored in a card file that I’ve been wanting to do since they were released. I love the subtle coloring of the tape and the flowers - rustic beauty at it’s finest. I do love your style. ❤️
    Today’s play for me will be to finally paint the backgrounds on the 3.25x4.75 manilla cards that I didn’t get to do last weekend although… I did do my 6 pages in my YCS 8x8 Collage journal. =)
    You are such an excellent teacher, Alison leading not only by your words but your actions as well…. I’ve watched you have your supplies all around you when you’re playing so they’re readily available to callout to you which one wants to be used… so… I have selected 24 of my Fresco paints in a variety of soft shades (including some neutrals for cards using your Fodder School stamp). 24 is a whole lot easier to manage than 200… I also pulled a handful of PaperArtsy stamps & stencils from various designers and I plan to do 3 to 5 cards for each one. I’m quite excited about it at this point. I have my supplies also ready (gel plate, brayers, paint brush, wipes, etc.). Thanks again for all you do to encourage and inspire. Have a wonderful weekend!!! 🙂

    • @w0rdsandp1ctures
      @w0rdsandp1ctures  3 місяці тому

      I love the idea of you surrounded by your selected PaperArtsy paints and stamps and ready to play.
      It was the first time I'd had a chance to play with the Forgotten Garden so I was really enjoying myself... time flew. I was very surprised when it added up to quite so many minutes! I've also got a bunch of Tim Holtz dies that I really haven't explored, so there's a die-cutting session on the horizon (though there are a few deadlines to juggle my way through before that happens).
      Hope you have a lovely Sunday, and thank you, as always, for your wonderful comments and support of the channel.

    So enjoyed watching you make these lovely cards. Love the muted colors, and now, I am getting Pebble Beach! Black is often harsher and sometimes I use gray, but that color will be just right more often than not.

    • @w0rdsandp1ctures
      @w0rdsandp1ctures  3 місяці тому

      I often use gray - Archival Watering Can is usually my go-to for a cool grey, but I love the soft warmth of Pebble Beach. Given I'm often stamping botanicals, I use Olive Archival a lot too - and Leaf - and of course the many browns... Coffee, Sepia, Potting Soil and the Distress Archival Ground Espresso seen here. Oh, and quite fond of blues too - Night Sky and Cobalt, and I'm thinking I might "need" Mountain Lake, which I've just come across! Oh dear...

      Thanks so much for the tip. For the most part, I quite enjoy the process of some gentle fussy-cutting - and I'm not likely to make enough use of the dies to justify the purchase. By the time I've paid for the dies, the postage and the taxes, scissors usually end up feeling like the better option!! Have a great week.

      Just a thought for the future, if you are thinking about buying the stamps... PaperArtsy do have stockists in many countries worldwide, so you should be able to find one close enough to you to help keep the shipping costs low. I don't know where you are, but here is a link to the PaperArtsy stockist list blog.paperartsy.co.uk/p/find-stockist.html Not all of them stock the whole PaperArtsy range (it is huge!), so if you have trouble tracking down what you want, let me know and maybe I can point you in the right direction.

    Hello Allison! I’ve just discovered your channel and wonderful mixed media projects. I have to say these little projects are so beautiful and my next project will involve the cards! I also plan on my next journal using some of your embossing techniques. Thank you so much for such inspiration!

      I'm not sure which stamps you mean... I think I listed all the stamps I used in the description below the video. If you can give me a time reference (minutes and seconds) to the place I'm using the ones you're interested in, I can try to confirm which set it is.
      Thanks so much for watching and for your lovely comment.

    Do you think at some point when you have time you could do a video on what Distress Ink Pad colors you use the most? I have a small crafting space and I want to start purchasing the ink pads but I don't have the room for every color. Thank you!

    • @w0rdsandp1ctures

      Well, it's the blues, the browns, the greys, the greens and the turquoises - all of the shades of those. But really it's up to your colour tastes... that's no good to you if you're someone who likes fiery oranges and bold pinks! Pick your favourite colours and start with those would be my advice.

    • @w0rdsandp1ctures
      @w0rdsandp1ctures  3 місяці тому

      I don't know why I don't make cards... just one of those things. In more than 10 years of making almost daily, I've probably made cards maybe 10 times in total! But yes, I'm considering cutting these down the creases to use as panels in pages or on tags... that's how little interest I have in cards...
      I did mention the name of the word stickers in the video - and have now added it to the description too... they are Tim Holtz's Idea-ology Clippings Stickers. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.

    These are charming and delightful. Was loving on everything and then came the shocking announcement that the torn, gessoed up book pages were from A Tale of Two Cities?! 😮
    Wwwwait, whaaaat? Alison…..of Words and Pictures covered up the words of Dickens?!?! Mon dieu!!! Sacrilege! 🤨😆 😜🙃
    You may have covered with gesso ‘“You might, from your appearance, be the wife of Lucifer,” said Miss Pross, in her breathing. “Nevertheless, you shall not get the better of me. I am an Englishwoman.”’ Or “Good never come of such evil, a happier end was not in nature to so unhappy a beginning.” Not to mention the most glorious opening sentence of a novel that ever was written. JK. I have to thank you because now I know it’s high time for a reread of AToTC. I haven’t read it since high school and I remember liking it, even tho Dickens is not my favorite author. Cheers! 🙂

      That made me laugh out loud!! Perhaps one should look at it differently... I've given Dickens' words whole new layers of meaning (or else given my cards an underlying revolutionary power!). Definitely a good opening line, and probably time I gave it a re-read too (must be forty years since the last time!).
      Happy that you enjoyed it all up to that point at least 😜😁 Thanks so much for your company on this creative journey.

      🤔 hmmmm…”whole new layers of meaning….” ‘Yes, I like that. Brilliant. I WILL choose to look at it that way. As an American, I can fully get behind a card with underlying revolutionary power. 😂 But I still preferred it when you added layers to the Barbara Taylor Bradford book. 😉 🙃
      it has been almost 40 years for me since I last read AToTC as well. In my 1985 10th grade English Lit class with Mrs. Pryor, who was a wonderful teacher…..
      As always, thank you for an inspiring and creative art video, for taking time out of your day to write an Oscar Wilde level witty comment, and for shifting my perception yet again. Have a great weekend!!!!! 😀

      Yes, I read it at fifteen for school too - definitely deserves another look, though Bleak House will probably remain my favourite. Overall I agree, B.T.B. is a better bet for covering up, but I do hate it when bits of her writing show through. Don't mind so much catching a hint of Dickens!

      These were offcuts left over from another project, as I mentioned - just from a large pad of cheap card... nothing very special about it. You need to experiment with different kinds of paper and card - you will get different effects according to the surface and absorbency. There is a lot more information about this kind of thing in the "technical" inking video posted this evening - ua-cam.com/video/2gUKA8QcGuI/v-deo.html

    • @w0rdsandp1ctures
      @w0rdsandp1ctures  3 місяці тому +1

      😂😂 I absolutely did say that! It means explaining something to somebody which they already know perfectly well themselves. Apparently, everyone's grandmothers were once expert egg suckers (removing the contents so as to keep the shell whole. I used to blow rather than suck, myself, when making egg decorations to hang in branches for spring!)... so if you are teaching your grandmother to suck eggs, you are lecturing to those already in the know... which is pretty pointless.
