My favorite part of this is at the end: when Sally tells the Doctor that one day he will be stuck in 1969, he just raises his eyebrows and nods, like he's thinking, "Sounds like something I'd do".
“Huh! Interesting. I wonder how that happens exactly. Guess I’ll just have to find out.”
Internally: "I hate paradoxes, now I have to let this happen."
@@tetragaming6332eeh, TARDIS would make this happen
Also adding: "That is something to look backwards to"
Not every statue.
But any statue.
This is the beauty of this era of dr who, there were a few episodes that just made you terrified that so many every day things like statues were aliens that could kill in an instant.
Mirrors "Not every shadow, but *any* shadow" nicely. Moffat does love a turn of phrase
@@yermatedave4930Moffat created 4 of the scariest villains in Doctor Who history. The Empty Child, The Weeping Angels, The Vashta Narada and the Silence. Incredible
Ahhh back in the day, when Doctor Who made you scarred of scarecrows, mirrors and statues in just tree weeks time 😂
Don't forget red balloons.
Don't forget shadows as well!!
Gas masks for me
This does more in 45 minutes than most films do in two hours and it does it splendidly.
BLINK is hands down one of the most epic Doctor-light episodes of all time. I wish, wish, WISH we could get more Sally Sparrow!!!!
Agree. But spoiler?
And I love they used DVD Easter eggs for communication
Glad you liked it, as others have said, this is considered to be one of the best episodes ever. They're not wrong 😂
This one is so clever and genuinely scary. And Sally Sparrow was a great new character. The Weeping angels are such a unique monster.
Blink is one of the greatest episodes! It’s definitely the best Doctor light episode
Fun fact, during a side quest in The Witcher 3, Geralt goes to a church, where there are 2 stone angels flanking the doorway. If you look away for a moment, they move. A couple times. It's a great Easter egg
Sally Sparrow was going to be the next companion after Martha - but Carey Mulligan was offered bigger roles based off of how fantastic she was in this episode, and we got the return of Donna Noble instead. I wish we could have had her as a companion, but I think everything worked out well.
Really? Would have preferred her of crappy Tate!
With the amazing Carrie mulligan and the weeping angels how can this be anything but an amazing iconic episode!!!
This episode still gives me chills every single time.
I always wanted an episode where the Doctor takes Sally to say a proper goodbye to Kathy, later in Kathy’s life.
Me too. Too bad that they have written into canon that you can’t do that without risking too much damage when it comes to the weeping angels. It would be great though.
Best episode in Doctor Who history. So clever. Suspenseful. Fun. Cary Mulligan played Sally. She was perfect. The fact she has been nominated for 2 Oscars was inevitable after seeing her in this show. She stole the show....... Actually made you think......... Doctor Who?..............
One of the most popular episodes, and the Doctor is barely even in it.
In my opinion, the Weeping Angels are scarier than Daleks, Cyber Men, or any other monster/villain he's faced.
This isn’t just one of the best Dr Who episodes it’s one of the best episodes of any show. Even though I know it’s not real, I see a statue and I think Weeping Angel. Kinda like thinking of Jaws when you go in the ocean.
I remember back when this was about to come out, Paul Cornell, who wrote the prior 2 parter, was being praised for the best New Who eps and replied something like “wait until next week.”
Absolute excellent episode and no matter how many times I watch it, I am just as scared as the first time.
I've been having nightmares for years because of this episode. Steven Moffat wrote the scariest of the Dr Who stories.
My father was an avid Dr. Who fan from the 70s and before. I recall him showing me some of the older Who episodes.
But it wasn't until I saw this episode, while on a research trip down in west TX, on a stormy night, in the top level of a shaking barn, when my colleague played this episode.
I was hooked.
This is one of my favorite episodes. "Can you hear me?
"Yes, I can hear you."
This is the episode that made me a Doctor Who fan. I stubbled upon it, got hooked, and didn't even know it was a Doctor Who episode for awhile as I was watching it the first time.
Top five episodes for me. Probably the most well known episode in the show
I think at the end when he says gotta deal with four things.. there were 4 angels left after the tardis left them looking at each other
You'll never look at a statue the same way again.
Yep, Blink is a masterpiece. More than a wonderful episode in itself, perfect for first timer to discover this universe, it keeps you afraid afterward, making you guess "Am I really safe out there ?". The fear is simple but so effective... Growing up, there was 2 creatures in sci-fi show that terrified me : the Replicator from Stargate SG1 and the Weeping Angel from Doctor Who.
It's not terrible handwriting, he was using shorthand!
One of my favorite Dr. Who episodes. Thanks Travis.
I always recommend this episode to people who have never seen Doctor Who as their entry into the series. All have loved it so far and started watching the show.
It was raining when we met.
Its the same rain
Top tier episode!! One of my favourites!
Part of the contract that the main actors sign gives them one episode per season where they get to take time off.
This usually that ends up with an episode where either the doctor or his companion don't appear much. This episode they let both actors take the week off at the same time and gave the story to two new people.
Personally statuary gardens have never been the same since this episode add in percy jackson and I get the chills everytime I even go to a garden center
Blink was my favorite of all new who
I used to live near the house this was filmed in. I didn't realize I could see it from my bedroom window until a week before we moved, thankfully.
Quite freaky when one night I saw a light on in the building D:
I do find it odd that a show about a time traveller doesn’t have much timey-wimey in it. This is one of the few episodes that explores that.
Steven Moffat wrote this episode, and in general he does a lot more timey-wimey stuff than Russell T. Davies. To be fair, S3 had "Harold Saxon" mentioned several times before his origin was explained via time travel in the finale, and S4 has the Ood predicting the Doctor-Donna and he heartbeat and some stuff like that.Still, it's nothing compared to what S5-7 do with time. (Travis is already on S7 on Patreon now, so this isn't spoiling anything for him.)
Carey Mulligan is now a Hollywood star, so that's probably how you recognised her. Oh, and the saying is "In a mo(ment)". Common usage in Britain!
After I first watched this, I couldn't sleep! I ended up telling the cat to keep watch so I could close my eyes.
I watched this episode air when I was like 8, I had a trip to London the next day and was petrified of every single statue out there, it had SUCH an effect on us kids back then 😂
This is my favourite episode of the entire show (old show included).
This is the episode I recommend to people curious about getting into Doctor Who.
8:40 Probably one of my favorite moments in modern media, EVER! 😅🤭
So meta, so random, so human but so natural and it makes so much sense...🥰
1:53, to clarify, for those who read "pants" as trousers, it's also just underwear.
I love all the episodes with weeping angels. They are terrifying af
The Weeping Angels are so legendary, I had had zero information about the whole Whoniverse before I started watching it last year, but even I'd known there was something in it called the Weeping Angels. There's an easter egg about them in the Witcher III (the game).
Travis... Welcome to the days of the Weeping Angels... They STILL scare me every time I re-watch these episodes!!!
Personally, I find this to be the best episode of the whole show
Hands down one of the scariest episodes! Can't believe it's a family show! 😂
This episode is epic! One of the best.
I first saw this at three years old, I have literally never looked at a statue the same
I loved seeing how the angels are costumed
One of the best episodes ever
This was the first episode of Doctor Who I ever saw. It had me hooked! I loved it.
My first was in 1964, with the Daleks in London. Probably not as good, but I was hooked anyway.
mine was the impossible planet i recommend it as a first ep so intriguing and had me hooked
Oh.... Another one saw this brilliant masterpiece for the first time...
😅
Honestly, I mean, I got obsessed with Steven Moffat's talent much earlier, after I watched Coupling. But this confirmed it again. 😅
And he even became showrunner himself later to what many people, me included still call the "golden era" of modern Who....
This was the episode that made me swear off museums, for fear any of the statues could be Weeping Angels.
This is the only episode I can remember, where you can think that it was it's own film with the Doctor as a guest star.
one my favourites just makes you look at every statue from now on haha
The major flaw with the Weeping Angels is that you could keep them at bay indefinitely by closing one eye, opening it, close the other eye, open it, and repeat ad infinitum.
Try it. It basically doesn't work as the instinct is still there to blink at the same time. Even if your eyes aren't dry psychologically they feel that way. It's really hard.
The shop in this episode was originally a record store. It was owned by my husband. They shut the shop for 3 days for filming. Got to meet the cast.
This is the episode that made me a Whovian. I liked the show a lot so far, but this... this was a GD masterpiece. This is the episode that made me fall in love with it!
This episode is very good!
LOL you will never look at a statue the same ever again. We have all been there
Thank you .. I ticked the no recognition box.. I wish I’d not now.
The statues were actually people being still cheaper than making lots of statues.
Something I found out a few days ago! The term "Easter Egg" came about through The Rocky Horror Picture Show (which I did for years and never knew this!), because it was Easter when they were filming the show. So the cast and crew had an Easter egg hunt, but not all the eggs were found, so some were left when they filmed the final cut. Apparently there are three actual eggs in the final film. Pretty cool, huh? 💙
Im 33 now and this still gives me the creeps i swear that episode gave me ptsd its not as bad now but still have the occasional nightmare with these in
This is by far one of my favourite Doctor Who episodes to this day.
Something else you might want to know: There's a Doctor Who mobile game on the app store called "The Lonely Assassins". It acts as a direct sequel to "Blink" and it features another fan favourite character that you'll meet later down the line (in series 7 to be exact). I would highly recommend it. It's very puzzle heavy and there were some moments that took me by surprise (jumpscare-wise). All around one of my favourite Doctor Who games out there.
The way Kathy's grandson pulls out the documents in an almost aggressive manner, is the same as the Western Union guy at the end of Back To The Future 2.
First time I watched this I was alone, in the dark and it was 2am! Scared the bejesus outta me! Now I have a weeping angel for the top of my Christmas tree! 😂😂
His handwriting isn't terrible. Its shorthand. Google it. Secretaries used it to take notes when dictating correspondence.
Dr Who reaching its peak, still so much fantastic stuff to come. These were the days when it so smart, so well written. Shame what eventually happened to it.
The weeping angels are my favorite!
BEST EPISODE EVER! I love the Weeping Angels! 😁😁
21:10 there was absolutely no need to do this whole montage to me as a 7 year old kid 😂😂
The worst thing about this episode is how Steven Moffat basically ignored all the rules he set up in this episode later on. This is why he's so divisive among fans. He's written some absolutely brilliant episodes, but sometimes he seems like he just doesn't give a shit.
Easily one of the best episodes ever. They angels show up again in some other episodes, which I like well enough, but none are handled as beautifully as this one!💙
Now that i think about it, dr who, and especially this episode, was really the precursor to the recent analog horror craze
One of my favorites. I send pictures of creepy statues to my Whovian friends.
This episode was scarier than all horror movies i watched.
There will be more episodes with even more scarier ideas. Now I'll be in silence.😅
I love this episode. And I can see why people are scared of the angels but personnaly I feel like getting send back in time is not that bad. Like I 100% prefer a weeping angel to pretty much every other creature we have seen so far 😅
genius episode
I’ll be checking the next episode to see your reaction. 😊😊 this one was really good, though!
Love this episode as well. One the best written. Eye Hitchcock style, scare you inanimate objects. Brilliant on every level. The only bad part of this is that it was so good they did more Angel episodes and did not measure up (as if anything would).
This is the best episode
The Weeping Angels were one of the only villains from Doctor Who that genuinely scared me back when I was a kid. I still don't really like statues.
This is one of my favourite episodes of amy series the weeping angels scare me more then any villain does on doctor who
I think this is my favorite David Tennant episode.
13:00, a bit puzzled. Were all the DVDs some obscure indie titles? Because major production studios had their own home media subdivisions.
This episode did what it intended to... made 11 yr old me terrified of every statue I saw. Well done Moffat 😂
One of the best episodes as it's story and character driven even though The Doctor is barely in it.
Did they technically survive the angels in the end because as you find out in a later season the image of an angel becomes itself an angel so those pictures at the end should technically turn into angels
I wish Mr. Shipton could have been the new doctor. I wish Sally got to be a companion too she would have been amazing I think
Ive always wondered if wrapping yourself in foil would protect you from the angels?
"they kill you nicely" Angel Bob would disagree
Yes, Sally Sparrow is a masterpiece.
And the episode's alright as well.
Blink is one of the best. Very tidy
If u like this episode there is a game called lonely assassin's its got the weeping angels in it its ties back to this episode
Best Doctor Who Ever.
His hand writing isn't awful, as Sally observed, he's writing in shorthand. Which just happens to look like, that.
19:34 what I don't get is surely they'll move once the light goes out
DON'T BLINK
