- After retaking thousands of square kilometres in counteroffensives in recent weeks, the Ukrainian army is struggling to hold back a Russian push on the eastern town of Bakhmut. That is despite the use of sophisticated weapons from Western allies.

The Russian army is conducting an offensive in the areas of the settlement. Vyemka, Krasnoye, Artemovsk, Mayorsk, Vesyoloye, Pobeda, Nevelskoye, Kamenka and Ternovye Pody.
The real cost on the soldiers who survive will play out how well Ukraine handles their care and well being after the fighting has stopped. Hopefully they continue to take care of these guys long after the last round has been fired.

When I was stationed in Germany with the US Army back in the early 1980's we would drive armoured columns through small German towns during training manouvers. I felt as if I was in a war movie at the time.

I believe if Germany is in threat, they will develop multiple Mass destruction weapons, be it Nuclear or chemical.

Nice report. The Russians are spending lots and lots of troops for extremely slow, small gains in Bakhmut. I can understand why they want the city, but this sort of approach doesn't really seem sustainable given how the war seems to be going.
The funny part is the biggest value of Bakhmut was it *was* (past tense) the only supply line for Sivirsk and a bunch of other Ukrainian territory to the immediate north. If Bakhmut had fallen earlier, Ukraine would have had to abandon a big chunk of land.
Now that area can be supplied from the north, so it is no longer "force Ukraine to abandon a lot of ground" and is just "make Ukrainian logistics slightly more complicated."

The german company Rheinmetall said in summer, they have 100 Marder IFV and 88 Leopard I tanks in their storage which just need a bit modernisation and could then delivered to Ukraine. The Bundeswehr don´t need them anymore. 16 Marders are already modernised and could delivered right now.
So why does our government not give their approval?
Greece and other countries could deliver their outdated stuff anyway their is no need for a ring exchange ("Ringtausch"). Rheinmetall could deliver better Leopard II tanks to our Nato allies.

@@flycrack7686 I agree that France and Germany need to step up their assistance to Ukraine. However, I have a feeling that Greece is holding back in case it needs to defend itself and/or Cyprus from the Turks.
A lot of the equipment is held back while training is being conducted. Also, before you can train, all the manuals for field use have to be translated into Ukrainian. Ukraine and its allies have also improved their operational security so the first Russian forces know about the presence of some new equipment is when they are on the receiving end of the ordnance.

On Russian State TV a Russian military personell discribed the Donesk front like this: "Along this entire front everything is foreign(equipment). There are all sorts of anti-air, M777, Caesars, a lot of MLRS. Not just HIMARS, but all kinds," in a very worried tone as he explained.
He had better surrender PDQ if he knows what's good for him.
No problem with having foreign equipment. Russia has Iranian suicide drones and North Korean ammunition and foreign troops. If it is okay for the Russians to get aid from foreign countries they cannot legitimately complain about Ukraine getting foreign equipment.
Ukraine is going to win this war. Russia's best soldiers can no longer capture a single town. Meanwhile, Ukraine is advancing across vast swaths of territory on two fronts.

The funny part is the main value of the city was the road north it controlled used to be the only way to resupply a chunk of Ukrainian territory.
Now Ukraine controls the north end of that road and can send supplies south, so it isn't crucial to Ukraine any more.
Still, Ukraine would like to keep it to avoid the devistation and war crimes against residents that Russian occupation brings.

The crimes have been committed in a state that does recognise the Courts jurisdiction and the Russian alleged criminals can be tried by the Court whenever it can have them apprehended and extradited. The criminals from Serbia thought they would be safe too but eventually they stood accused before the Court and the Russian leaders should not believe they can always escape justice.

Russia's generals are pleading with the little man in the Kremlin to be allowed to redeploy the forces being used in this pointless attack to places where they are desperately needed. @@dannyjanssens8985 russia was at the outskirts of bakhmut since early July. they've been throwing bodies in this direction for months with little success. it's a waste of life only for them to repeat the process for months at the next remotely large settlement.
