It was about five years ago I came to a startling conclusion. The conclusion was that the best model of education for children was indeed the Victorian model of the 19th century. The Victorians taught students the history and philosophy of the Greeks and Romans at a starting point. This is the basis for our modern western society. The only modification I would make would be to include the science of the last 200 years. How did I come to this conclusion? This is my brief history. Raised as a Catholic in the mid 20th century but lost my belief and faith as I learned of the negatives of religion. Gained an engineering degree. Then a teaching degree 10 years ago. What I was taught in that course and what I saw in schools close up, horrified me. It was chaos and anarchy. While thinking of how this came about I realised that students were disconnected from their origins as taught in the classic Victorian curriculum. So this is what we need to get back to.
