Living in an airpark would be pretty much every pilot's dream. Living in an airpark with lots of scenic water and mountains? Even better. (aside from the safety aspect, but hey, the area is seaplane heaven.)
You’re exactly right! The seaplane activity in this area is very cool, from Beavers and Twin Otters to Cessna 206 and everything between. It’s interesting how common over-water flying becomes, almost routine, complacency is a real risk! That’s why I’m always near land and flying near an airstrip, this island in particular has the best setup for an engine-out though I’d like to never need it!! Thanks for watching and welcome to Ginger’s channel 👍👍
Gobsmacked for the personal shoutout, thank-you. I must admit that my support of this channel is totally and completely for very selfish reasons. As flying is now out of my reach, the ability to "fly" with Ginger to awesome adventures around the gorgeous PNW is special to me. The _propria pace_ that your videos bring to me, and I hope others during tumultuous times, is why your channel is growing and will continue to grow.
Thanks again my friend, your unwavering and generous support means a lot to me, I’m glad these videos bring you joy and hope you feel like you’re along with Ginger and I. Salem is definitely on my list of places to visit and for more reasons than a Double-Double 🍔😉
Of all the flight videos I watch on UA-cam, and I watch a lot of them, your videos are the most beautiful! It was awesome to see that low pass over the private airfield. Very nicely done!
Thanks Russ, that’s incredibly kind of you to say, it means a lot to me that you like these videos. As a fellow creator and pilot you know the effort that goes into capturing a moment can be like putting lightning in a bottle, can’t be done but we still try. Appreciate you my friend, love your channel for your candor and honesty, thanks again and wishing you the very best 👍
Thanks Sean, I’m glad to have you along on these adventures in Ginger. She really is a very special airplane, she flies smooth and true, I’m looking forward to lots of fun flights in her this year. Thanks again!! 👍👍
Smooth like butter!! Thanks for another great video! Blackly island is one of my favorite spots on the sim, I always try to land the Mooney ovation there…doesn’t look like it’s possible in real life as I can barely stop before reaching the other side of the island😅
Thanks Mohamed, very much appreciated’ I’m pretty sure a Mooney Ovation could land and takeoff from Blakely, you’d have to be very slow on approach and at max power w/ 10° of flaps on departure but it could be done. My 172 has no vortex generators or STOL goodies but it’s perfectly suited to landing there. Thanks again for watching and for your continued support 👍
Hello Antonio, wow! - from the Alps?!! Thanks for watching and welcome to Ginger’s channel, it’s very much appreciated! 👍 Flying at sea level here above the San Juan Islands on a calm evening feels sometimes like being in a dream that you don’t want to wake up from. Flying is filled with joy and risk combined together, the two inextricably linked, Blakely Island is one of those safe harbors that makes flight in such a potentially hostile environment much safer. I’m very thankful you liked the video 👍👍
Hi Dean, I’m a big fan of Point Roberts, not many people go there and don’t know what they’re missing. Thanks for watching and welcome to Ginger’s channel. 👍👍
It’s a real gem, always wondered what the sight picture would be down low and now we know. I didn’t expect Obstruction Island or know about Blakely Peak, both are big obstacles for landing in distress but if you know about them they can be dealt with quite easily. Glad I checked it out, best reason for an inspection pass 👍👍
Always love the videos, try to catch them as soon as they go up. You deserve all the views you're getting, can't wait to see the channel at 10k subs, then 100k!
Thanks Jesse, that’s incredibly kind of you to say! It’s a lot of fun for me to create these, my professional life doesn’t lend itself to much creativity so this is a great outlet. If the views keep coming that’s just amazing, thanks again for watching! 👍👍
Just took a discovery flight yesterday and felt extremely comfortable getting back in a GA airplane since flying with a friend many years ago - in part because of aviation youtubers like you. Looking to start lessons soon. Love your fun, relaxing yet educational content, sir. Would love to crosscountry up your direction sometime and meet up once I pass my checkride!
Hi Bryce, wow - that’s wonderful to hear, thank you for your very kind words! Welcome back to flying, many of us have had gaps in our flying but I’m living proof that formerly rusty pilots can and do return to the cockpit. The passion for aviation never really goes away even when busy lives and family responsibilities take over. Best of luck with your training and check ride, I’d absolutely enjoy meeting you if you come up to the PNW. Thanks again and welcome to Ginger’s channel!! 👍👍
Thanks Shawn, I really appreciate that! I’ll take you up on that this summer sometime, I’m still exploring all of the airports in your area and Frontier would be a wonderful place to visit. I’ll reach out to let you know before I drop in, it would be great to meet a fellow airpark guy!! 👍👍
Born in Bellingham, family still there. Other Grandparents were on Friday Harbor. Long trip between the two by car and ferry. This would have been much faster.
Hi Tom, that’s exactly right! We call Ginger our “time machine” because we can be in Friday Harbor in 20 minutes compared to at least 3 hours by car to Anacortes, waiting at the ramp, sailing and unloading. I love the ferry ride but could never do it now that we can fly over for a quick meal and back in an hour!! We fell in love with Bellingham and Whatcom County many years ago and finally moved here in 2015, the flying here is spectacular and in my opinion the most beautiful place on earth. Thanks for watching and welcome to Ginger’s channel 👍
@@GingerThePlane next time you are over there, stop by Gourmet’s Galley. My cousin owns it. Been in her family for probably 40 years. My Bellingham family lived on Cornwall. The house was sold and flattened. Sister and her family ended up there and live east of town. Many great memories picking berries as a teen.
Thanks for emphasizing that blakely is a private airport and prior permission to land is required. Some folk don’t and ask for forgiveness later. There are a couple of wind situation that require local knowledge and as a result of this lack of knowledge there have been a few broken aircraft.
Thanks for watching and welcome to Ginger’s channel. I fly over Blakely often and appreciate having it as an emergency option, I was glad to have a closer look but also respect the privacy of the folks living there. I wasn’t sure I should post the video because I didn’t want to promote transient pilot fly-overs but decided to emphasize the need for prior permission as a way of thanks for allowing my overflight. I hope this video helps in the regard, hopefully pilots will see what they need in the video and not need to land to check it out themselves. 👍
Enjoyed the video, two thumbs up. Just recently discovered your channel, enjoy the content which is closer to home for me than many of the other channels. I’m just north of you at CYXX. Know what you mean about pulling of a good landing, greased one on the other day and said the same thing, the next one would be crap, and it was. Your landing always look good, don’t think you have anything to worry about. Looking forward to the next video. 👍
Hi Gino, we’re practically neighbors! Lynden is 6 miles to your south and I can see Abbotsford from our pattern. I’m planning to fly up for the airshow this year and display Ginger, hope to see you then. Appreciate your support and kind words about my landings, a camera makes them look better than they are most of the time but this was one to celebrate. The more you watch the more you’ll see my landings stink on a regular basis (I don’t edit anything out, they are what they are…). Thanks for watching and welcome to Ginger’s channel, I appreciate it very much! 👍👍
LOL, thank you Mel 👍 Yeah I’m not one to hide my crummy landings, but honestly they’re not that bad either. 😉 Appreciate you subscribing, welcome to Ginger’s channel, I put videos out every couple of weeks in the winter, more often in the summer months (more flying and filming) so a steady stream of lousy landings is headed your way!! 👀😁
Hi. I very much enjoy your vids. I live and fly out of Georgia 9A0 but my brother and dad live in Victoria. I would love to fly up there one day. what a beautiful area. I have a question. For two videos now you have announced “right downwind” but were turning left. For a “right downwind and base” are t you supposed to turn right? Maybe it’s different out there since you are on the “left coast” 😝
Thanks and welcome to Ginger’s channel. I’ve seen what you’re saying and that’s an attempt to save the video with non-synced audio, from a different part of the video or another video. I was loosing audio for a few flights, sorry if it was weird to hear one thing and see another. 👍✈️🍀

Flew most of the Islands. The best is Point Roberts. Grass, tall trees, ocean park, and coffee shop just around the corner. As good as it gets.
