The argument is the song has always been sang and it has its roots. Never has the blacks before or after 1994 sang that song while marching into white people's homes and killing them. Peter explains clearly what the song meant for them and it's a struggle song.
I know alot of whites likes rugby, they sing alot of gwijo and some of those songs might be war cries. It's the same with soccer too, the aim for the songs is the lift the spirit up, some Songs they sing maybe not even related to war since war songs will make sense in the case of sports and yet they will sing them for that same purpose and for solidarity. Soldiers today still sing many of the same songs, you cant expect a group of ppl that have their songs to change their songs just because they are not popular today. Even the youth when we grow up, we join sports we find these songs there it's not like we coming with something original because they are part of the sports culture.
On the other hand, white people have the right to question the song, they also have the right to hate the song and have the right to be offended. They have the right to call the song distasteful and many of the blacks will probably agree or even see things from your point view, the issue starts when whites call a song while knowing very well it's a song and start to claim white genocide in South Africa. I understand when European and Americans make that mistake but I find bizarre when our own people push such a narrative.
