    Wow! These blooms are amazing and really cool! Thanks for showing how the water drops off the flowers when you water it, it was very interesting. I love the spots and coloration of these flowers.

    Love the dramatic music for the dramatic bloom! Very cool :) Here's to hoping the next time it blooms the color will be darker!

    That sounds like a scariest music for an orchid... :) But the blooms look amazing.

      Jim Yong That's because the flower is called the predator, so you need predator-type music!

    Really loved this video also. I can see what you mean about the design of the flower. Since the blooms come from the bottom it's made to shield water from the core of the flower and I think the wax texture helps the water drip off faster. I'm always in awww when I notice nature knows what it's doing haha of course it does :)

    OMG That is just incredible! Something that exotic looking deserves a lot of effort. There was no avoiding that flower when watering. lol.

    Ahh Stanhopea is the next species that I REALLY want to try! I saw some really cool ones last time I visited Mexico. Totally unfair, this guy just tossed em in trees and they did great without his help. They're super interesting looking

    I love Stanhopeas ... this one is stunning, immagine with a whole lot of flowers hanging down... wow!! About the colour, it may change with the next flowering... light and nutrients may have influence on the colour too!
    I have just one young S. florida but i haven't seen it in flower yet...

    I really like the Stanhopea's period. Everyone usually has phals but, I prefer these instead. They are way more exotic and beautiful to me!!!

    So exotic looking! I get water on my orchids all the time, hard not to when using a garden hose with plants on a shelving unit.

      MouseLilly Yeah as long as you have good air flow you shouldn't need to worry about rot, or damaged blooms :D

    Hi there. I hope you are still an active utuber. I live in Sydney Australia and my favourite orchid is the stanhopea. Gosh isn’t the perfume to die for? Only a short bloomer but just divine! I am needing to divide my stanhopea and wondering if you could give me some hints?

    Maybe my brain turned off but did you mention a temperature range for this plant? I heard you said greenhouse, it can't be grown in home conditions?

  • @okkulikova

    ))))) The music is great! Tigrina is wonderful! I used to make the same mistake with stanga - did not watered enough. Do you fertilize it as others or in a such special extra way?

    • @HolyCityOrchids
      @HolyCityOrchids  9 років тому

      Lumka I really don't do anything special. I water and fertilize like all my other orchids. This one does get watered quite a bit more than my others, but that's because the medium dries out so quickly. This is a thirsty plant!

    Hello, I have a friend who,s orchid grows in this manner. Is the Stanhopia the only orchid thats sends spikes underneath?

    • @HolyCityOrchids
      @HolyCityOrchids  9 років тому +1

      Lynn Brooks There are crosses with Stanhopea that can send spikes below, but for the most part, yes they are the only genus that sends bottom spikes.

    Could something like that grow on a kool log??

    • @HolyCityOrchids
      @HolyCityOrchids  9 років тому

      Roberta Grigsby Its possible, but they get really really big. I probably wouldn't mount one for that reason alone.
