It's criminal how this channel has less than 50k subs compared to the amount of work put in providing information about quality shoes. Severely underrated. Thank you for all the content ❤️
I love how he does not baby his shell boots and wears them hiking. It is nice to use a commando sole as it was intended. Thanks for the collection review.
Happy to be newly enjoying the #3 pair from this vid. Was pleasantly surprised how comfortable the lower part of that boot was compared to my other Grant Stones. The upper ankle part still needs time to break in. Having one of Dale’s top 5 models makes me feel like I’m part of the cool kids club.
Glad to see Dale wearing his own handmade apron in this video, in addition to all the rest of the video of course. Now I'm just waiting to see if you address his framed picture of Wyatt.
Dale is a legend! I've only got one pair of GS, the Diesel in Earth and the more I wear them the better they get and at this point might be the best pair of boots in my collection.
The video is fine Nick, no problem...! Love your video's... By the way just purchased a pair of Grant Stone Green Kudu Cap Toe Boots and the boot is absolutely impeccable...! The Kudu leather is just awesome in the dark green with the contrasting natural welt... Love everything about the boots...!
I tried to order a $340 pair of Diesel boots last week. I'm in the UK. Shipping and taxes $240. $90 was for shipping- it's crazy when Thursday ship free of charge.
@@howyduinyall7653 Yes. In the end I ordered Brass Boots in the 2022 black Friday sale. Thursday are totally transparent in their charging whereas Grant Stone are like nearly all the others.
Sorry the sound/video isn't great on this one guys, I hired a freelancer in Baltimore to help out who turned out to be not very good Also check out my 10 Best Boots On the Market! ua-cam.com/video/9kuHyyefNGE/v-deo.html
It sounds like Dale's favorite Grant Stone Brass Boot is formed on the FLOYD last, not the LEO last. How would you compare the fit of the FLOYD last to the LEO last?
This is a video to get some insight from an individual who is clearly a leather, boot, quality enthusiast. He likes what he likes. And there was nothing lacking or wrong with his choices.
that natural shell cordovan looks really nice after putting venetian cream. what do you still have to put the sapphire cream? fyi, i bought a gallon of venetian cream in a form of a can...saved tons of money!
GS is in the $300 range instead of the $500 range because the actual assembly is in China. In fairness to the company, GS is pretty up front about that on their website (they state the location of each shoe on their site). Never owned a pair, but if it’s really a $500 shoe available for around $300, I can’t complain.
I read more on the company about an hour ago. I apologize…my first comment was uninformed; I had no idea the founder had lived in that specific part of China for 8 years and actually learned the craft there. It sounds like he knew many of the plant’s employees prior to the company’s founding. I have enough boots, but when I do spoil myself with another pair, it will be from either GS or Truman.
Great video! I’m intrigued by Edward boot.. as far as “standard” GS collection goes, the only Edward boot that’s available is in Earth color, which is a bit disappointing. Wish they introduced it in middle-of-the-road leathers, like crimson and dune..
I'm a red wing guy looking to diversify. I'm loving the Grant Stone Diesel. How's the sizing compared to Red Wing? I have 2 of the round toe boots, the Beckman, Classic Chukka and the Caverly Chukka all in the same size. Stay with the same size? Go up or down a half size? Thanks. Great channel.
I have the Field boot in vegetable-tanned Badalassi leather and the Brass boot in Chromexcel. I like the looks, comfort and overall quality. However, if you wear them in wet conditions you will be miserable rather quickly. E.g. If you walk through wet grass (2-3 inches high) you will get wet on your feet within a few minutes. My Edward boots in waxy Commander leather from F.C. Stead is a completely different story - very water resistent and my favoritt GS boots. In really tough conditions I use my Lundhags boots from Sweden.
Great video once again!!! I recently got a pair of diesel in chromexcel. They look amazing but the toe box is a little snug/tight and makes it uncomfortable after wearing them for a bit. Is this break-in normal and would it become comfortable after some time? Or would I have to opt for stretching? Thank you..
Grant Stone uses UPS for shipping to the UK. Expedited shipping which misses out customs adds $216 to the cost of the boots so the Brass CXL boots for example cost $576. VAT only makes up $72 so the other $144 is shipping costs and collection fee. Thursday boots offer a similar service where you pay for the VAT upfront and the shipping is free. That's why I have many Thursday boots and only one pair of Grant Stone as while Grant Stone are the superior boots I can get two pair of Thursday boots and still have $50 change for the cost of a single pair of Grant Stone.
Right!! I'm visiting my sister in London and just had a peacoat mailed to her from Korea, I had to pay $150 in taxes - brutal! It's tough in Europe man.
@@Stridewise We have good social care compared to the US so I don't object to the 20% VAT (though VAT is a tax that hits the poorest hardest so higher income tax would be fairer) but two thirds of the extra charge ($144) is shipping and what I assume is a handling fee and that seems extortionate. I have bought goods from Australia and Japan and the shipping/handling costs are much smaller, plus, as mentioned, Thursday Boots manage to build it into their costs despite them already offering very good value for money.
I have to put a vote in for one of the Kudu. I prefer the storm kudu. No one cares but growing up with Dr Martens makes me think of shell cordovan as patent leather.
Considering patent leather was invented to emulate the look of shell cordovan, that kinda makes sense. Comparing Dr.M's to shell? That's like comparing blackboard paint with the finish on a Rolls Royce...
Hi Nick, can you please recommend me some of your favorite specifically wide toe box (Not necessarily a wide boot as a hole but a toe box without looking weird) everyday, smart casual boot under $300. i was thinking of going with the Thursday commander though i want to see other options before making a decision. Thank you so much!
You'll have to ask Dale on Instagram but I think they're these www.grantstoneshoes.com/collections/boots/products/pre-order-storm-kudu-diesel-boot?ktk=YnJHczhNLTljNGZlZTg3N2U2
From watching his vids I believe it's bc of his foot shape and his anxiety for getting the wrong size. Also grant stone and truman use more exotic leathers not just brown and black.
Regarding the audio - now you know why the professional audio engineer always have their headphones on whilst monitoring the levels on the audio recorder. Something like this would never happen.

Glad you liked it my man, thanks for your feedback
That says a lot to me, too. I tend to baby a lot of my shoes and boots out of fear that they won't hold up as long.
Probably helps that he has a gazillion shell boots so he could afford to not baby a few pairs.
What do you all think would hold up better in work / hiking / hunting / Harsh Environment ... Shell Cordovan or Kangaroo

Mine are super uncomfortable. Were you able to break them jn?

Love Grant Stone but a little variety in that list would have been nice.
If I'd known ahead of time that there'd be 3 cordovans I would have asked him to pick something else but this was all unscripted sorry Eric haha

Just wore my Grant Stone suede Chelsea out for the first time. Comfort and build quality are both A+
Great stuff Johny, I saw they have a tan suede one now too that looks great
If I was starting my boot collection again I would buy all Grant Stone
That's such a great line Tommy, i often wonder which brand I'd go with myself
They are definitely great “casual” boots but if you are really working try Whites or Nicks.

Ottawa or Brass boot. HM is a plain toe, go with something different

Try using cedar inserts. They help stretch them out while not in use.

I want to start a push to refer to shell cordovan as a fascial membrane key word "fascial" as membrane does not really mean anything
6 months later have any new GS acquisitions replaced these top 5?
