The way karue takes the ball so early and looks smooth on his ground strokes is something I aspire to have in my game.
Same. I also want his ability to impose his return game on big servers at crucial moments.
I do what Karue does, and let me tell you…it intimidates servers, they start to double fault more when they know you are attacking both their first and second serves by stepping in and taking it on the rise!

Raise your swingweight (if you don't have enough stability, yet), reduce your takeback / shorten your swing and potentially lower your string tension to gain more effortless depth. How Karue hits reminds me a bit of Mannarino, actually. Very efficient, shortened swings combined with a very stable racquet. Simply a smart way of playing tennis without putting too much effort into each stroke. It's the way we should probably all hit when getting older.
The fact that the players names make a phrase Sell Mayo is quite epic

The shot on the run right before was so impressive.
Then the full brakes with the slide on the concrete, into the backhand i didn't even notice it was one handed, before you pointed it out.

He’s such a douche. I’d have yelled at this idiot if I had played him. His grunts are often so late, you could even call out hinderance at some points.
Karue's level of play in this match is the best I've seen. His movement is fantastic now, and for the most part, he played very clean and very smart tennis, picking his shots. His play on the big points was outstanding, so he's definitely gaining confidence.

I like how Karue just kinda looks over and then casually looks away lol. I feel for Mayo’s frustration though. Tennis is like that sometimes.
I was impressed with how close to the baseline Karue was on serve return. Very solid reflexes and really clean strokes. Smart too since the other guy liked to throw in an angle serve here and there. Compare it to his opponent standing 6 to 8 feet behind the base line for serve return. Also the most impressive stat is how many break point conversions Karue has vs. his opponent. Karue has an enviable strong mental state and was not rattled by his opponent's screams and tantrums.
This is where Karue’s age and maturity give him an advantage to younger players. More control of emotions.
I love how at the start when he said to like the video it showed an animation of somebody unliking a video.
Such a pleasure to watch you play matches. I love your compact forehand and backhand strokes and, even more impressive, your "Keep Calm and Fight On" mentality. Coming back from 0-40 in a first set service game was fantastic.

Great match! I saw Aidan Mayo play at US Open qualifiers last year. Super intense during the matches and was really unique returning serve with a two hander but regularly hit groundies with a one hand. Really interesting seeing you put your own advice in these tournaments especially the "Manager mindset". After watching those strategy videos you posted it's easier to see when you're trying to manage the rally sticking with it hanging out in neutral or trying to get back to neutral from defense and then when you see your opportunity you take it. Definitely learning a lot from these match play videos especially seeing you recognize what ball you need to play defense/neutral/offense and also your court positioning after you hit those balls.

His one handers have no power cause of no body involvement, Karue was focusing that side all match. He should stick to 2h only. Also should try not being an angry spoiled brat.

Aiden did play in Johnson Ranch last two years ago during the summer so that tournament was everything to him a lot and he ended up getting the wild card also for the KPSF Open in SF, so great to see him perform his tennis all around and compete
I remember Aiden Mayo from Norcal junior tennis. My daughter partnered him once in mixed at zonals. He had 2 hand backhand and was really small for his age but grinded out matches.

Two observations:
1. Karue is expending significantly less energy to win points, which at a pro level...may not mean a lot, but I think it plays a big role in this particular match. Mayo is a great athlete, and has great footwork, but Karue's feel and reads are stuff you can't really teach - ultimately I believe that is a big reason he wins this.
2. I don't know why Mayo is returning so deep, Karue aces him a couple times because he's parked deep in the corner.
That was a wicked match.
Sell has a more advanced way to play tennis. He knows how to play very near to the baseline and this Is a great force. You are right he discounts a lot of Energy during every point

To give you very simples but useful tricks to help you to improve you playing near to the baseline you have to stay with your feet near at the point where every ball bounces inside your court. To apply this you must reduce the range of the swing of your forehand and backhand. It's a swing more linear (I open and go up with the arms) than round. Some examples between Pro tennis player are Nishikori, Agassi, Fognini.
I had the luckyness to have as a coach the ex italian Pro Luca Bottazzi (n° 120 Atp) that After his tennis player Pro Carrer studied and become a tennis scientist, elaborating a tennis method about space-time. He applied his metods over many pro italian players and many of them into the First years of 2000's reached top 50 Atp or WTA. Despite he had quarrels with actual Italian Federation boss Binaghi, and moved away from Federation, his method reached to develope modern players as Andrea Vavassori, the actual famous double player, and Viktor Galovic a croatian player Who played also Davis Cup.
Needless to tell you how many amateur players like me he helped and today helps to improve

What went well: You remained level headed throughout the match. You figured out quickly your opponent's strengths and weaknesses. You had a clear plan on how you want to handle the match, and the tempo of the rallies. You were able to reset quickly after an unforced error or a long rally not going your way. Your second serve was effective and kept your opponent at the back of the court. You saved many break points and held serve even after being 15-40 down.
What you can improve: Footwork was at times lackadaisical. Sometimes you mistime the ball when the opponent changes the pace with a loopy, spinny ball. Some easy volleys were missed, so you need to keep focus and intensity even on the easy balls. A little more positive body language can also help.
I think this is the first match you really can see without stats the improvement with tennisfitness very impressive how much more accirate and cosistent is possible on this lvl 👍👍👍

hey karue, thanks for alle the helpful videos and your tips. I am playing with a one handed backhand and i would love to hear your take about it. Do you feel a difference in the shot when you play against a one hander? Has it less or more spin? When is it the most dangerous and what is your approach playing against one handers compared to two handers? There is just very few good content about the one hander and i always trust you with your tennis insights because you actually play pro! maybe you could even make a video for the one hander? even that you are not playing with one, it would still be better than most of them out there! thanks and keep it up!

Can't say I *love* the way Mayo, uh, vocalizes throughout the match but we adore Clay Thompson on this channel so I can't go too hard on him, haha. Regardless, the quality of his shots is fantastic. I really like how on the backhand wing he returns with two hands but plays the rallies with one. Seems like a great way to maximize offense on that wing for an aggressive player.

Bro, I've watched several games and noticed how important it is to have a stroke in your arsenal that can change momentum. Your backhand delivers the business in a subtle way.
If your opponent hits a slightly short return to your backhand, you seem to have the ability to redirect the momentum significantly by reducing a half a second of response time for your opponent to return your backhand stroke. It's so clear especially when your opponent is in a minor deficit position, you can see their shots being late on the unit turn.

That smooth fast flat backhand, whether directed cross-court or down the line, is absolutely formidable. It forces the opponent into extremely uncomfortable positions, and almost invariably results in a decisive winner.

Very good tennis by Karue. Very consistent with few errors. He also performed patient building of the point until the appropriate moment to finish it on the net. It seems that this was a very conscious game play by him, and it worked almost every time he applied it.

My observations:
1. Karue clearly going for the guys BH early on. The one hander is such a liability at the speed the game is played on that level.. hard to fathom why people still insist on it (ohbh player myself but not nearly at a level where it matters much)
2. Nice to see a pro step into the court to return the serve for a change 😅

What do you feel was the biggest reason you won this match? I noticed your court position applied a lot of pressure and as good as his BH is, you found it on big points and made him miss either on that side or starved his FH and he would miss there.
Good win Karue. Have you ever considered spreading your fingers out a little more when serving? Having your index finger up a little higher on the handle would facilitate wrist pronation, giving you a little more purchase on the ball through contact (which would help especially on second serve), get that extra pop you're lacking. Strong dude like you could pick up a 'free' 10-15 mph extra on your serve this way. Food for thought maybe?
Really had the more balanced game with no weaknesses and ability to pick out the other guy's vulnerabilities. The more compact controlled wing is looking good almost Manarino-like although the occasional rip is a real weapon when needed as well. There was a tendency to be too constrained and almost pushing the ball in the beginning of the match and some spotty first serves but when the first serves settled in and Karue got into the rhythm it was a really steady performance. Looking forward to see how far you can go!
When you make a level 300 break his racket at least 2 or 3 times, you know your doing something right. Keep it going!. Youl be sitting in the top 250 soon, I feel it
Crazy, this kid was playing next to me when we were playing in a USTA Open tournament a few years ago. Now he’s top 300 in the world!
It was interesting to see how both of you hit one and two handed backhands. I can do that as well (albeit at a much lower level), but it would confuse me so much to return with my two hander and switch back to the one hander for my rally.
A new fan of this channel here. Forehand is not my natural effortless swing wing. Learning from Karue gives me confident that not everyone is supposed to have this big back swing on the forehand side. I prefer the more compact back swing, as I know that I prefer to have a better control on the ball. Karue Sell is now one of the pro players I look up to, as I can technically identify myself to them. The 2 other players are: Adrian Mannarino and Beatriz Haddad Maia. Check out the forehand of all these 3 players and u will understand what I mean.😁
The match was awesome! I went to the same middle school as Aidan, he was a bit smaller compared to other kids in his class but did really well in the Algebra class though
My favorite thing about Karue is that he doesn't yell and grunt like he's about to bust a vein 😊. I've been playing/watching tennis for 45 years and used to work at a tennis center. I've seen plenty of that club-player mentality (it obviously extends to the pros as well... Rublev [cough]), and while it may not be completely unique to tennis, it's definitely weird compared to most other sports.
I also played basketball which has a similar number of points per game/match. People would look at you crazy if you showed the kind of agro behavior displayed by some players in tennis. I totally get the feelings of frustration when things aren't going your way - I've felt those feelings. But why it turns into constant yelling (and occasional racquet breaking) and is so prevalent in tennis is beyond me. Really appreciate Karue's calm demeanor.
