Supreme Court to hear Purdue Pharma bankruptcy case

  • The Supreme Court on Monday is hearing arguments over a nationwide settlement with OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma that would shield members of the Sackler family who own the company from civil lawsuits over the toll of opioids.
The agreement hammered out with state and local governments and victims would provide billions of dollars to combat the opioid epidemic. The Sacklers would contribute up to $6 billion and give up ownership, and the company would emerge from bankruptcy as a different entity, with its profits used for treatment and prevention.
But the justices put the settlement on hold during the summer, in response to objections from the Biden administration.
The issue for the justices is whether the legal shield that bankruptcy provides can be extended to people such as the Sacklers, who have not declared bankruptcy themselves. Lower courts have issued conflicting decisions over that issue, which also has implications for other major product liability lawsuits settled through the bankruptcy system. (AP)

This company needs to face hundreds of billions in fines, prison sentences, and a release of all their emails and statements.

Why is it the pharmacies are being sued?
    What about prescribing doctors?
What about those chronic pain patients that do not abuse opiates?
    What happened to personal responsibility?
Why wasn’t their trauma worked on or healed?

I've noticed an absolute wave of these posts defending Purdue and attacking doctors and patients. I think they're paid shills. Someone is trying to manipulate public opinion in favor of Purdue and the Sacklers.

There are plenty of other pain medications that work. You may claim you never got high off your Oxy but you were addicted. That's the real root of the issue. Nobody should want these companies to have the ability to make such strong & such addictive drugs which they then incentivize doctors across the country to prescribe it in ridiculous numbers. They knew for a long time that their drug was being over prescribed & that people were dying. They decided money was more important.

I've been off pain meds for 4 years now and my life has become a nightmare. Every day requires superhuman stength simply to survive and all bc the government feels like I have no need to be NOT be in incredible pain all the time. I have had chronic pain for over 15 years and then they simply decide that I don''t need it. What? This whole situation is truly reprehensible.

As I said above. I am a tier one recipient in this case.I was put on everything from hydrocodone, and Percocet. All the way up to Opana, and Oxycodone HCL. After injuring my shoulder in training for the military. I went into treatment in 2013, and now I've been clean of opiates for five years now. After all this fighting. I just want to see some sort of justice for all I lost in this. It's way too much for me to list here.i just want this over with.

Other victims are those that have true chronic pain and can no longer get that management because of a bunch of drug addicts.
