Very helpful, thanks! Something to keep in mind to anyone watching this though. The ribbon cable input for the touchpad and fingerprint scanner might be slightly different than what is shown here. Mine was not side by side as the video shows but instead about 4cm apart and split by a portion of the frame making the 2 areas separate. Other than that you showed me everything I needed.
Is there a shortcut for getting to the fan without taking apart the keyboard at all? I just wanna clean out the fan. I fear that i wouldn't be able to put the parts back together after such complete dissemble.
Sure, I understand, yeah, I suppose ir wouldnt really fall intoa video response category. Thanks, will do and send you a link. Thank you very much for sparing your time to help me w/ this. I really appreciate it.
Thanks for the reply. Deffinetly not a spill, I know that for a fact, I dont eat by my laptop. I will make a video response, to show the button. Would that be ok?
My dm4 seems to be overheating(gets really warm underneath and the cpu fan is blowing at full speed) and Windows 7 locks up. Do you think adding thermal paste will help fix a possible over heated CPU? In this video, it doesn't look like must thermal paste is on the cpu. When I built I always put more on than that. Your input is appreciated. Thanks for the video!
Yeah, I like it too, I edit my videos just because I don't want to waste peoples time by watching me how I scratch my head to figure out how this damn thing coming out:) On the other hand usually people want to see where it goes and not exactly how it will be opened. If I would have hammer in my hands, will you take it as advice? My knife isn't sharp, so I use it, because other plastic tools I tried - failed withing a weeks. Anyway, thank you for comments!
So I just fixed my fan on this guy, it took a little while but you just have to be patient and gentle. Here are a couple tips I would have liked before hand. The keyboard and other ribbon connectors require you to flip up the plastic on the side of the ribbon itself to open. You can remove the fan without removing the rest of the heat sink etc, just unscrew it and remove the tape connecting the fan to the heat sink. Also, you do need to remove the hard drive, network card, keyboard, and optical drive to get to the fan :/
Hi, the first step will be removal of a keyboard and than if it is possible to use a canned air if fan is accessible. Just hold fan blades or it can be damaged.
Thank you so much for sharing the video. Maybe it can help, my note has a broken screen and I would like to remove the screen compartment permanently so the note can be connected to a monitor. Can you tell if the note works without the screen, that is, with the screen removed?
So basically, from what I understand, everything that may have caused that left button to collapse,is in the palmrest, and replacing it will fix the problem? It cannot be smth NOT in the palmrest, right? I mean the whole touchpad "mechanics" are embedded only in the palmrest, correct? Thanks.
hey regazz-- if you have a bad hinge to the screen, do you have to pull everything out before you can access it -- or is there an easier way to get to it?
Hi, there is no easy way. What you can do first is remove a keyboard only and try to remove dust with canned air. The hole to a fan is pretty small, but if there is not a lot of dust, it may help. If there is a huge amount of dust - it will be hard and it can move and block vent that it will not turn ... you will be able to remove some dust manually. Make sure unplug from power supply and remove battery prior to do that.
Nice, Is there anyway to modify the cooling system so that the laptop doesn't overheat as much? I want to replace the thermal paste on this thing at the very least. It always smells like something is cooking and I am just watching a video or surfing the web. Maybe lubricate the fan bearing or something? It is just too hot all the time.
The main problem of this laptop it is very thin and everything is so compact inside. It will be quite a project to replace with some custom cooling system.
regazzz I didn't replace the cooling system, but I removed it, cleaned it thoroughly, and then replaced the thermal paste. I also aligned the camera in the monitor with the monitor cover. I replaced the optical drive with the stock hard drive and the hard drive with a lower-end SSD. And finally, I fixed the cheap plastic hinge supports at the base of the monitor (soaked them with super glue), because they were about to break off completely on me. I also put Ubuntu into my computer! I have a whole new system! Thanks for the video. No talking, no backstory nobody cares about, just work. How it should be.
regazzz However, it would be nice if you could change the camera angle a bit in some way so that your drill doesn't cover what you are doing (If it isn't too much trouble to do that of course.)
So far I know, it has two parts. mouse buttons and touchpad. Mouse buttons are removable, but touch pad looks like isn't. It is probably glued and it will be to hard to replace. I think if you press in some position and it is pop back, probably mouse buttons are still working ... It will be better to see it, and not just guess... There can be some plastic part (like button cover) broken in some place and that's why it keep sticking there... Can be some sticky like juice, but not with your laptop
that was very helpful indeed. when i try to slide the dvd drive out, it gets stuck somewhere halfway through and it feels as if i'm going to break something if i pull too hard. i'm guessing this isn't normal, right? i see you pulled it out effortlessly.
In case someone else is wondering the same, it's cuz you need to remove more screws. One of them apparently impedes the optical drive. I had the same issue, cuz I tried removing it earlier on - just follow the video. :-)
Great video. thanks! question: on our dm4, when I attempted to remove the hard drive connector on the board (not on the HD itself); it must've been way too stuck, tried removing it just like you did, and other guides demonstrate, but it pulled the lower section up and out and off the board; tearing a few contacts; would that have torn away from right on the motherboard? (bad news) or is there a separate controller card the for the HD it tore away from? (not so bad news). thanks!
Este notebook por ser de aluminio a carcaça , voltou todo esfolado de tanto que ele arrastou na bancada, fica esta observação para preservar a estetica do aparenlho do cliente...
Ok, lets try that. The question is the following: I take care of my dm4 very well, but I use it alot. I tend to click on the left mouse button on the keypad alot. Cant say I push too hard, but I use it extensively. Today I have noticed that the left edge of the left mouse button on the touch-pad, collapses, It does not “pop back up”. If you press it in the middle, or the right corner, it works fine. I was wondering, what is the problem, whats causing it and what has to be done to fix this? Thx
sir..mine also hp pavillion dm4..but it seems like there's no second closing plate..i mean the second layer to cover the keyboaed layer..and now i got a problem that my cool fan cant fuction normally..it also make sound..n it overheat faster..can u help me by showing how to open the fan for me..n mine also doenst have the screw on the under-left of the notebook..n sorry for my english..
Hi, on my other channel "LaptopRepairAid" you may also take a look at "HP DM4 HOW TO REMOVE KEYBOARD DVD HDD MEMORY WIFI BATTERY " There isn't whole laptop being taken apart, but only this items including keyboard.
Wowee this is just what I needed. Since you seem to know a good bit- are cooling fans like hard drives with better options? I guess what I want to know is if it's possible for me to have a better fan (without needing to, like, rearrange or change the other parts)? Or are they pretty much all the same, and the best option is simply to avoid doing what was done to overheat the computer in the first place?
Não tente abrir se comprou o seu no Brasil, vai estragar boa parte dele pois a montagem é diferente. Parece ter alguns rebites no lugar de parafusos nessa parte. 5:09
My laptop is HP Pavilion dm4 but it's beat edition. they're almost the same but do you have a laptop same as mine so I can see the proper removing of wires? I stop the process when I reach the motherboard. It's too hard for me to remove the wires 'cause I know the motherboard is too delicate and expensive for me. Well anyways, you might want to use an ordinary screwdriver and flatscrew driver instead of a knife haha. Thanks :D
Hey Adrianne Aldrin Alarcio unfortunately I don't have this beat edition. Just be careful and don't break anything, ok? :) My knife is not sharp at all and it is very thin. Some flat screwdrivers can make more damages than my knife. On the other hand if you have some used/expired credit cards - you can try it too.
You would need to remove palmrest and unplug cables that are attached to display. Wifi cable and video cable. After that you can either try to take apart upper part without removing it from a base or remove it. Replacing a video cable will take some time.
On Hp laptops, except G60 and some other few models, they are placing motherboard number somewhere close to a memory slot. If you see XXXXXX-001 number - it must be it. Check on Google pics how it looks and you will be able to see if CPU is replaceable or not.
so if i see that it is replaceable then do i need to do BIOS whitelist removal? I bought a WLAN card and now I cannot put it in because of whitelisting :(
i have a dm4 laptop and it has a problem with its camera. the first time it stopped working was under warranty and the service told me the flex cable was loose. now it stopped working again and i need to find where it is located so i can repair it. can you let me know where it might be? thanx
yup i took it apart and it was behind the lcd panel leading to the camera module. the glue used to secure it was off and i had to replace it. everything works fine now. thanx :)
Hm, something wrong with touchpad... I would say it is not bad... Finally you may change a whole palmrest. What is not hard to do. I really don't trust any touchpad on any laptop. Pretty much always use external mouse with my laptop...
Mine is making a very loud noise from I think where the CPU is when I turn it on that goes away after a while. It's annoying enough I'd like to fix it. What parts should I buy?
I get an error 90B at start up indicating that my system fan is not working properly, I ordered 669934-001 fan from ebay. Would I be able to reuse the heat sink that comes with the computer or should I order the whole fan/heat sink combo? Thanks in advanced. Great Video.
Hello, I am sure you already fixed your laptop and everything is fine now, but in case you don't, I am sure you will be able to change this fan, maybe you will remove it first completely with heatsink, but fan is exchangeable.
How many screws do they have to put in there. I guess they want somone to get frustrated and buy a new laptop than removing 1 thousand screws to access the fan
i have a problem with mi dm4, the fan cooler is broken and i cant open the machine. I need to know the product number of the fan cooler, can you tell this number please? thank you
I've got the same problem, it's crazy what you have to do to get to the fan! Which of those steps are necessary to remove the fan? Are the fans different between dm4 models? (for example, i have a dm4-3055dx)
i have the same model, 3055dx. yes, to remove the fan you need remove amost all parts, included the motherboard. But i have a tip, the spare number of the fan: 669935-001 contatc hp support to buy this spare. i hope this help you and sorry for my english, i'm from uruguay and speak spanish only
I just ordered the fan on ebay thanks to your suggestion! Is the 3055dx similar enough to the computer in the video to use this as a resource? Also, did you find any other more specific tutorials online or is this the main one you used?
You're most welcome, I admire your work. Can you please show me how do you reassemble them with a youtube video? I would be most appreciated if you could do that!
do you have a video how to change a video memory on pavilion dm4-3099se? i want to change mine cuase is kinda slow when im on the internet..plz help..i will give u a good feedback
+Ray Rodriguez 1:35 he starts removing the memory. Search the make and model of that board, make sure exactly what type of ram it takes. Whether it is DDR DDR2 DDR3 DDR4. This will most likely be DDR3 and it is, www.cnet.com/products/hp-pavilion-dm4-3099se-beats-edition-14-core-i5-2450m-windows-7-home-premium-64-bit-6-gb-ram-640-gb-hdd/specs/ just buy the new ram, DDR3 SDRAM (2DIMMs) Max supported RAM 16GB's 204Pin RAM. Just install the new ram exactly how he takes it out. There will be a notch at the bottom of the ram where the it will allow you to push it in to place. 240Pin ram is desktop ram, 204Pin ram is laptop ram, 240 Pin is long, 204 is short about half the size of desktop ram. You will see when he takes it out in this video. This is an example of laptop memory. www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-Laptop-Memory-CMSX8GX3M2A1600C9/dp/B006EWUOL8/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1458589307&sr=8-13&keywords=2X4GB+DDR3+SDRAM
Hello, I would be not surprise if laptop will be clean but just whole design can make it hot. Anyway the process of cleaning will be time consuming and if you know someone who can do that for you - better delegate it to this person. Some trusted technician.
3:34 DONT ACCIDENTALLY PRY ON THE KEYBOARD COVER SURROUNDING ALL OF THE KEYS. I just made that mistake and it cost me dearly...

Thanks for the video! Was getting CPU error at startup... Cleaned and reapplied thermal paste and is now working flawlessly.
Also reseated the CPU if anyone having similar problems.
Other than that you showed me everything I needed.
thanks for making this, im now convinced that i would never be able to put my laptop back together if i took it apart.
:)
THANK YOU!!! You have a nice project ahead of you! Glad to help!
Thank for the video, made a screen swap simple and easy. About 30 minutes start to finish. Appreciate it.
Is there a shortcut for getting to the fan without taking apart the keyboard at all? I just wanna clean out the fan. I fear that i wouldn't be able to put the parts back together after such complete dissemble.
sucks for u :(
Sure, I understand, yeah, I suppose ir wouldnt really fall intoa video response category. Thanks, will do and send you a link. Thank you very much for sparing your time to help me w/ this. I really appreciate it.
Hi,
keep in mind that this video is a full disassemble video, you probably don't need to remove a motherboard (unless it is blocking LCD hinges)
Thanks for the reply. Deffinetly not a spill, I know that for a fact, I dont eat by my laptop. I will make a video response, to show the button. Would that be ok?
Hi regazz. Can you post a list of what kind of tools that is necessary to disassemble this pc.
I mean you can try it too, but usually it will not help, unless they have some solid pieces under button.
maybe it is just dirty fan/heatsink... but if fan is failing you can replace it, why not? Just make sure you know what are you doing.
Yeah, I like it too, I edit my videos just because I don't want to waste peoples time by watching me how I scratch my head to figure out how this damn thing coming out:)

it can be either some screw or some type of glue or tape or something else... but should be easy to remove, unless something preventing it.
me ajudou a desmontar de um cliente aqui! obrigado amigo.
Thank you, I had to take apart my nephews laptop to re-grease the CPU and clean out the cat hair, great guide.
hey regazz-- if you have a bad hinge to the screen, do you have to pull everything out before you can access it -- or is there an easier way to get to it?
just cleaning the fan is a crap - owner of this laptop since 2011 - still working good. Just get's warm, but thaks for showing!

if I want to just clean the fan, do I have to take out the whole computer apart? or is there an easier way to get to the fan on an hp pavilion dm4?

what's is the drill are you using on this ?
Just excellent video! Good Job
it maybe a different trim... you know the number after dm4- .....
is there a backlit keyboard that can be installed on this model?
necesito limpiar el condensador de mi laptop dm4 por sobre calienta, dime no hay otra forma de llegar a el sin necesidad de desarmarla toda
Thank you for sharing this
You are very welcome!
Thanks! and thank you for posting this helpful video.
Just excellent video!
how do you put everything back together?
Can I replace the video card? i have that notebook but i don't like videocard it's RD HD 6470M I want to replace it with another can i?
Great!
I need to exchange my screen... now i know how!
Thanks!!!!!
Thank you, it was a very useful video.
You are very welcome!
Hi,
There shouldn't be more thermal paste, it should be a right amount. It also depend on type of thermal paste.
Overheating can be a dust problem.
Is the plastic frame around the lcd glued on on put together with clips?
My knife is not sharp at all and it is very thin. Some flat screwdrivers can make more damages than my knife. On the other hand if you have some used/expired credit cards - you can try it too.
Hi,
this video card isn't replaceable - it is glued/soldered to a motherboard.
THANK YOU!
What kind of screw drivers would do the trick ? (shape and size)
Do I have to do all this to replace a screen cable?
You would need to remove palmrest and unplug cables that are attached to display. Wifi cable and video cable. After that you can either try to take apart upper part without removing it from a base or remove it. Replacing a video cable will take some time.
@@regazzz thank you
Me ha ayudado mucho! Gracias
can i replace an new fan on Pavilion DM4? because sometimes i use than suddenly whole laptop laggy i restart it show Overheating Problem
can the video card be replaced?
I have the same laptop but i dont want to take the hole laptop apart. is it possible to clean the fan? and how?
You can remove a keyboard and try to blow out dust via fan and heat sink.
regazzz Uhhh idk about that... I am worried about my laptop.
Just be very careful and keep track of everything you do, remove etc.
I am not sure how to allow it, just post two or three comments :) Will it work for you?
Awesome video :)
Very helpful for me.
Please I would like to change the chassis of the pavilion dm4 laptop because of the poumels breaking and I would like to change the keyboard
Hi Regazz,
I was thinking of upgrading my processor. Do you know if the processor can be pulled from this laptop like we can in desktop motherboards?
On some models of DM4 it can, on some other - can't, depend on the motherboard.
What is your motherboard number?
regazzz
Hi regazzz, sorry for the late reply...how do i find the motherboard manufacturer and model number?
On Hp laptops, except G60 and some other few models, they are placing motherboard number somewhere close to a memory slot.
If you see XXXXXX-001 number - it must be it. Check on Google pics how it looks and you will be able to see if CPU is replaceable or not.
so if i see that it is replaceable then do i need to do BIOS whitelist removal? I bought a WLAN card and now I cannot put it in because of whitelisting :(
You just need to buy a correct CPU, wifi card etc that will work with your laptop well.
Is the CPU replaceable?
It's was helpful Thks cz my laptop keep overheating most probably need to clean the fan and use new thermal compound.
Is it normal that i have a yellow strip connected to my optical drive? I cant really pull it out becausd of it though
It is ok.
really nice work i hope im with u i like that job
i have a dm4 laptop and it has a problem with its camera. the first time it stopped working was under warranty and the service told me the flex cable was loose. now it stopped working again and i need to find where it is located so i can repair it. can you let me know where it might be? thanx
Hello,
I would say it is behind a bezel. Maybe unplugged from a webcam.
yup i took it apart and it was behind the lcd panel leading to the camera module. the glue used to secure it was off and i had to replace it. everything works fine now. thanx :)
Leo Kanellopoulos This is a great news!
Hm, something wrong with touchpad... I would say it is not bad... Finally you may change a whole palmrest. What is not hard to do.
I really don't trust any touchpad on any laptop. Pretty much always use external mouse with my laptop...
Thanks for the video!
Seems it fit, I refrased it a bit :)
can i replace an new fan on Pavilion DM4?
Mine is making a very loud noise from I think where the CPU is when I turn it on that goes away after a while. It's annoying enough I'd like to fix it. What parts should I buy?
Hello, I don't have this laptop anymore, so, can't really make another video, sorry.
Thank you for the reply. I did fix it and was able to replace the fan only. I also cleaned off the old thermal paste and put in fresh one.
Great!!!
Alfredo Cervantes After cleaning etc. can you hear and feel anything different? Temperatures, performance etc.?
No nothing really changed.
How many screws do they have to put in there. I guess they want somone to get frustrated and buy a new laptop than removing 1 thousand screws to access the fan
i have a problem with mi dm4, the fan cooler is broken and i cant open the machine. I need to know the product number of the fan cooler, can you tell this number please? thank you

I just ordered the fan on ebay thanks to your suggestion! Is the 3055dx similar enough to the computer in the video to use this as a resource? Also, did you find any other more specific tutorials online or is this the main one you used?
yes, i think that this is our same model, just a difrent color
Great!!!
这是我另一个旧笔记本,因没更新window(我也不知道怎样更新)导致荧幕黑了,请问现在这笔记本能不能upgrade?
The screen doesn't go black because of updates etc. when it starts, do you see an HP logo, can you access BIOS?
Mighty fucking work!!! Good job man! LOVE YOUR WORK!
By the way...how do you re assemble the laptop?
Hey, thank you so much!
I do reassemble some of them. Not all of them :)
You're most welcome, I admire your work.
Can you please show me how do you reassemble them with a youtube video?
I would be most appreciated if you could do that!
Sorry about that, but I don't have this type of video.
I hope you will fix your laptop!
Thanks for comments!
Hp pavilion dm4 ki body mil jayegi kya
do you have a video how to change a video memory on pavilion dm4-3099se? i want to change mine cuase is kinda slow when im on the internet..plz help..i will give u a good feedback
I really want to clean out my case, but this seems like it's a little too involved.
Hello, I would be not surprise if laptop will be clean but just whole design can make it hot. Anyway the process of cleaning will be time consuming and if you know someone who can do that for you - better delegate it to this person. Some trusted technician.
regazzz I figured after 4-5 years, their would be some dust buildup in the heat-sink fan. I think I'll just try some compressed air instead. Thx.
That can work too.
Thanks from Brasil!
To disassemble there isn't a big list. Screwdriver tools and something flat (I use knife, but it is a little dangerous due scratching abilities)
how can i fix error code 702 (HP Pavilion DM4 wlan module id 702 )
Oh, that is what I do on my channel :)
