Wow this crazy little box 📦 is unstoppable I don’t think there’s too many pieces of machinery in the world that would get through that kind of stuff. I want one!
Awesome, I drove one of these in the 80s while stationed in Alaska. Great cehicle, you can haul lots of gear. Fiberglass shell, you can push over 3 inch trees if need be. Not too bad of a ride as long as you are in the front. I loved it, especially in the spring, summer, same environment as here.
I drove these for several years in the UK, Norway and the Falkland Islands. Awesome vehicles that would go pretty much anywhere, could have done with a diff lock on the front and rear cabs a couple of time though.
These little things have been around for a long time, but they never fail to deliver. I had the opportunity to ride one of these. It is pretty much unstoppable. If there are any place where this thing can't go, it's not worth going there anyway. It is an absolute beast.
I was driving these in the army. Unstoppable almost. Very fun drifting on ice covered sea. They work well on lakes and in the sea if the seastate is below 2. Very cool machines with modern Diesel engines.
Drove these in the army. Great machines, lots of fun. They are even amphibious. Two weaknesses though, that high revving diesel never stops sweating and leaking oil, and the lack of diff locks between the four tracks, mean that if one track looses traction, you can get stuck. Happened especially on icy slopes. Top speed about 40km/h, fuel consumption about 11 ltr / 10km in rough terrain. Ours used a mix of kerosene and diesel fuel.
9:23 Notice how he swings left and right. You can make this amazing machine swim and slither through some impossible conditions. We drove these at Fort Wainwright, Alaska. They're amazing.
Kick ass vehicle I remember these when I was in the services! Gotta be one of the toughest vehicles in the army, just when you think it has had it and is stuck it just ROARS OUT!! The only thin that stopped it was the engine compartment full of water!
Time to upgrade the bilge pump with an automaticaly cleaned filter forcing the mud out of the vehicle with pressure! The mud covered white round thing under the light brown (rusty?) power train at 8:54 is the bilge pump that seized working due to that exact mud problem, isn't it?
I was driving one of these Hägglund bandvagn BV206 in my military service 93-94 in Sweden. We had a 7.62 mm machine gun on the roof and pulling a 120 mm grenade launcher behind. The BV 206 can also swim in water in about 3 km/h. But 6mm fibre glass was not so good protection from bullits. Fun to see this again though!

Looks like the basic rules are; don't hit anything too solid, give it some gas, don't give up/panic. I love how it seems to just really _want_ to go forward, whatever you throw at it.
Please, can we use footage from your UA-cam channel for our videos about military cars, trucks a other machines? We tag your channel as a source ,... thank you. :)
It happens, but since Swedish army use them for transportation they are very durable. In my service i mostly ride(slept)in the back. Except when we crossed a river with ice floating around us. A big block would probably had made a hole in the fiberglass construction. The only thing it didn´t cope with was ice. We had to be winched up the long slope by an army truck. The first ones made it up, but then the water froze in the slope and we was stuck at the bank. We went up stream so i think the speed was around 1,5-2 mph in water faster downstream of course.
I drove and worked on SUSV's in Alaska. Did way crazier stuff than this in them. Never stuck and pulled out all kinds of other vehicles with no problem. I made a train once and pull 4 broke ones with one!
The US and the former USSR had tried to operate such kind of long range vehices in the Antarctica. Does anybody know, whether a HAGGLAND could be upgraded to operated down to -60° ?
It is certainly possible, but I bet you need to do quite a lot of modifications to it. -60 is so cold, almost no technology or materials are made to tolerate it. You will find all kinds of surprises with plastics cracking and lubricants solidifying. It would probably mean you need to rebuild the engine with special seals and gaskets. You'd probably need to tear out all the wireing and replace it with special insulated cables that won't crack in the cold. I believe Swedish army veichles are built to operate down to -40 C, but another 20 degrees colder is way, way more difficult to adapt to, because we haven't gathered enough experience with those extreme conditions.

I used to drive these in the french swamps of south america. That was 10 years ago and i'm still in love with the BV 206.
These are beautiful scenes.

Yeah, you really miss the diff lock sometimes at this models. That was aviable as an option at later models (with diesel engine).

costly to maintain ?
Don't the tracks come off regularly?
@@slimdusty6328I recall someone commenting few years ago: 1h fun for 2 hours of maintenance.
Tracks are expensive, and diesel too in Europe.
Incredible footage !! This is amazing driving with an amazing vehicle.

A thirsty little beast.
drove it 1982 in the army it was ford 6 cyl petrol engine and Mercedes transmission that was the setup in the Swedish army
I managed to max it out at 65 km/h in a downward slope, normally it would hit 50-55 km/h
That is a very impressive vehicle indeed!
That sound, could here them a mile off when i lived on Dartmoor. As distinctive sound as the Chinook!! Always means safety and going home!!!

I was a BV-206 driver in the army and really miss it when I see this!
pick one up for about 30k
Me too, I actually ended up having lots of fun in the army because I got to drive this while others marched and crawled in rain and snow :)
"I gotta modded Jeep - it will anywhere".
Hagglund - "Hold my beer".
i feel bad for the next guy that thinks he is going to drive through that mud pit
Proper mud plugger! Awesome vehicle.
At I5 Östersund/Sweden I drive one of these, so fun and almost unstoppable.

Cool. Does it have the same 3,9L V8 as Sisu NA-140? They are very similar vehicles.
@@schneider7645 Ha ha! No no, it was powered with a Ford 2,8 l v6 with about 136 hp. That engine was working hard..😶

In norway they have a Mercedes 300 turbodiesel engine

What a piece of kit!!👍👍
Holy cow! Let me drive this to work!
I really like this vehicle.
So impressive!
Luckily I had the thrill and please off driving these beasts in the UK military in the 90’s. Before the the old BV 202... huge fun...
The go anywhere vehicle!
Used them in northern Canada in the muskeg. (oilfield) Alway worked Good machines.
These are very good vehicles with only 2 disadvantages:
1. They are relatively underpowered.
2. And they don't have differential lockers.
I was in that swim trial. Our Regiment (I16 Halmstad) Colonel hit his had very hard when he followed the BV-206
Thank you for the video.
Notice the escape doors on the roof very usefull if You know how to swim in the mud.
Very impressive. Shame water got in. Dam that's got some power.
They come with a bilge pump, shown clogged at the end.
Looks remote.....but really it's sub..urban..brings a whole new level to pick a spot for your camper
Well it may be sub urban, but its still a unregulated swamp
Das ist ein super Gefährt, kenn mich da aus in Montenegro im Schnee
