    I have read many things about Charlotte Mason over my 17 year homeschooling journey and I haven’t fully taken the plunge because it seems so scary. I am so thankful for your videos making it seem totally doable! Thank you for the encouragement.

    You are so real, and a much needed down-to-Earth, encouraging voice. Thank you for all these videos. I am not kidding, I prayed and asked the Lord to please please help me be a better steward, to provide a way for me to teach my littles without spending a thousand dollars a year on curriculum. I have paid close to $500 every year for the past 5 years (hardly used any of it)...we just cannot afford that!! Plus all the supplies and such...it is just too much. You are blessing me to overflowing! I have desired to have more children also, but feared not being able to juggle it all on the home front. Pray for me please. God bless you again.

      How precious :) I love it when I hear someone being blessed. These are things God has taught me on the way, and He can teach you, too!

      @@MomDelights I am earnestly crying out daily for His guidance. This evening I was just about to purchase my 1st graders 2nd Term materials, plus my soon to be 5 year olds preschool stuff from SCM, and the total was $300, and I have already spent $400 on just Term 1 less than a month ago. I desperately desire to use Charlotte Mason's methods without having to be reliant on someone else's curriculum. I would like our curriculum to organically grow from our particular interests as a family and individually. I read a book called "For the Sake of the Children" about 5 years ago and it opened my eyes, made me weep honestly, and I knew that was where God was leading me, but I lack confidence and guidance on affordable application, so I started buying ready-made curriculums and have felt caged and overwhelmed. I just like teaching my children as they rise in the morning, walk by the way and lay their heads down at night. I know there needs to be discipline, good habits and an environment of learning, those we have, but confidence I lack. Just started teaching my soon to be 7 year old how to read, it's intimidating but also exciting. She's a whip, makes lessons fun! She knows all our letters and sounds, so we are working on site words. If you have any suggestions for me I am extremely teachable and would love to hear them!!

    The Story of Rolf and the Viking Bow is one of my all-time favorite books! I hope some creative homeschooler will make a movie out of it someday.

    I know this video is old. But if you happen to see this comment, I’d love your take on something…
    See, I really like the books of Ambleside. But I don’t love counting pages 😅. And I don’t necessarily love that it’s not friendly to family style learning, even though my kiddos tend to be very independent and prefer their own books, lol, so that’s not a huge deal. But how does one take something like Ambleside and not pay attention to the given schedule? They say Mason wasn’t for devouring books, but for tasting bits at a time. Well, I just wanna read and put a book mark in the thing when ready. Lol.

      I say, why squelch your child's natural inclination for reading and enjoying? Also, if you keep your child engaged and busy helping around the house, doing family activities, etc., then there is nothing wrong with spending a few hours a day reading--better than screens and TV!

    You are the most down-to-earth Charlotte Mason homeschooler I've encountered. ♡ Is there a CM History cycle/chronological World and American living booklists you recommend?

      Actually, my current favorite is heritage-history.com due to its free resources written before the current age of political correctness.

    Sherry I have been so blessed by you over the years and am so thankful for your videos and encouragement! I have 10 children from 18 down to 2. I can definitely relate to your personality. I am the one to make amazing elaborate schedules but then can’t stuck with it because my natural bent is to be free!!! It’s a constant battle and I have yet to figure it out. I want the kids to have freedom to learn what interests them yet it’s hard to keep structure. I use your lesson books but only require 1 McGuffey lesson per week so they can use their writing time for other things too. I love the idea of everyone being on the same page but what do you do when your older kids don’t want to be “slowed down” and have to join in with the youngers for read aloud or whatnot. They want to schedule their own time and as much as I try to keep us on the same topics, everyone is inevitably interested in different things. So it ends up being much more relaxed homeschool and with my weakness to manage it, I begin feeling like I don’t know what anyone is actually accomplishing. Any tips? Thanks Sherry!

      I totally understand! Here's just one idea I have: concentrate your read aloud and group time with the youngest and then while the youngest are doing book work have conference time with each of the oldest (this means you consult together on their direction and give them just a tad of accountability while they are exploring). While you are spending time with the youngest the oldest can be doing things like the dishes or laundry or watching the baby for you.

    Yes, I am terrified. I have started, stopped, went back to traditional curriculum, and spent tons of money in the process. I want so much to do this method. I am a workbook mom. I really don't like to "gather" stuff and I am definitely not a "flower girl" type!! LOL! I am also not a great one to read-aloud to my children. I LOVE to read and I enjoy reading as a hobby, but I don't read well out loud with inflection. Any advice?.

    • @MomDelights
      @MomDelights  5 років тому +2

      Totally understand! Reading aloud is something that simply takes practice. Start with something like a Dr. Seuss book and try to ham it up--the reactions from your kids will give you encouragement.
      If you are a workbook girl, then you will love "The Lesson Book" series that I have put out. This is a great way to bridge one's need for the order workbooks lend with the freedom of Charlotte Mason. You can try out this system for free by downloading and printing pages off of my website and then you can purchase the actual bound lesson books from Amazon--the links for all of this is in the description below the video.
      I know what you mean about gathering the equipment. It seems like a lot of stuff to keep track of, and that really messes with the Comrade Dobrovska side of me! One way I have learned to appease her is to keep the equipment in one neat basket close to where we homeschool and then have the kids each use one quality notebook for the extra stuff we like to do as we go along. It's not any worse than lugging around a bunch of workbooks and teacher's books, if you look at it from that perspective.

    Great video. When using the McGuffey Eclectic Reader 3 with my fifth grader, and McGuffey Eclectic Reader 4 with my seventh grader, along with your Lesson books would you say the vocabulary words are enough. Should I add more words in from other books?

    • @MomDelights
      @MomDelights  5 років тому +1

      I can only tell you I have not added in any extra words and my children all have excellent vocabulary skills. I believe most of us learn vocabulary by reading what interests us. The McG's just help broaden and focus.
