I do construction exclusively on very difficult-to-access job sites where we can’t get truck deliveries anywhere near the building site. We typically use a zip line to move all of our material in and out of the site. Given our unusual needs, we often pre-fab our walls off site in a shop and then zip them in. For us, the main advantage is that it minimizes our scrap material on site. The only excess lumber we have on site is temporary bracing, which is very minimal since we are able to complete an entire floor-if not the entire building-in a single day. I don’t know if I would bother pre-fabbing if I could easily receive material deliveries to site and easily remove waste from site, but it does have some advantages.
Correct me if I am wrong Jarod? The sheer strength in that nailing pattern is the ability of the nail to give some as opposed to a structural screw which will reach a limit much faster than a nail and snap? You move those prefab walls around, transporting them all over, strapping down , on and off the truck then lifted into position? Those nails will work around a little! That’s what bothers me as opposed to on sight framed up and lifted once into position not drug around all over the place! No grant it it’s “ probably “ ok ! But maybe that’s why GC’s shy away from prefab ! Or is it cost ? I am not a framer however I do finish and I am around what you guys do and my dad did it like yours !
The inkjet printing on the timbers is pretty cool. I guess it won't be too long before we see that as a site based printer / sawing station for larger construction jobs....
Competition is the start of self improvement! No innovations are made without wanting to be faster than something, or Someone else, I love being competitive with my friends and coworkers, the reality is it pushes us all to be better and see what ways we can improve. With that said, I think being a douche while being competitive isn’t cool and actually makes people worse
