I am enjoying your channel so much and very much like the ‘answering questions’ series. Your knowledge, experience, and stories are so appreciated. Thanks!
have you ever worked with a climbing hydrangea Milton? I have two that I need to pull out, they are about 18 years old. They are pulling cement post anchored 39 inches in the ground, pulling the post and the concrete right out of the ground.
I have not because it is not popular in CA as in the east where it is colder. It is a great vine, beautiful flowers...I recall it is a woody vine, and from that standpoint is is OK to make into bonsai (meaning potted plans). Consider making a big bonsai since the leaf is large. Please tell us how it works out to share with the BH community. Thanks! .
A little off-topic, except for your comments about wisteria blooms. Yesterday I dug a 3-5 year old trumpet vine (Campsis) trunk. I like the texture of the wood and the sculptural form. Pruned to about 30 inches tall, I see it as a bunjin-style bonsai. Have you seen this plant used as bonsai? This is a new experience for me.
I have never seen it as a bonsai...so you are pioneering! I love that vine...because of the abundant bright flower. You are making a gy. yood start. Please keep us posted...to share with the BH community. Thank you@!
That plant behind you is a variety of Waratah (Telopea sp.) They are an Australian native plant and indeed in the Proteaceae family. Speaking of unusual plants would you be able to do a demonstration on how you would style a species that is not typically used for bonsai? For example mimosa or manzanita? I find your techniques and thought process very interesting. Thanks :)
Thank you! You are right. I googled Waratah...and the picture shows red flower. Actually we have never seen such a dark red one. Now I will look harder. Please send me seeds if you come across any. 'Thanks...Happy to repay you.

Pretty chill hang out.
It is like meditation when you tend to your bonsai.
Enjoy!
looking forward to your video on wisteria bonsai ❤
Question for next show. How old do you let a tree grow before wiring? Will wiring too young be bad for the tree? Great channel Mr. Chan, thank you.
Good question! I will answer this in my Q&A tomorrow.
Interesting stuff, thank you for sharing!
Welcome!
