Undergoing decompression procedure here at Samsung Med Cntr, Kangnam, Seoul. Femoral Stenosis on L5-S1 pressing on sciatic nerve. Decades of US Army Service caught up with me. Locking my knee associated with severe chronic pain and weakness down to left foot. Already had L5-S1 surgery on disc impingement in 2001 Queens M/C in Honolulu. Steroid injections relief lasted only a week at a time. Hope procedure in late Dec works. Doctor, thank you very much for your very educational video teaching us disabled vets.
He did explain it very well. And all Spine treatment professionals should do this. Just as important they should also tell you the percentage of surgeries( for different sections of the spine cervical, thoracic, lumbar-sacral ) that are successful according to what procedure and type of surgery. From what I understand and have seen personally - Lower back surgeries are unsuccessful about 50 % or more!! I am a CT and MRI tech and the patients come back and post surgery state the pain is the same or worse, mobility is not improved or may have decreased!! They are very successful it appears with the cervical spine but the Lower Back is an area that is really troublesome - take care of your lower back!!
TYVM Dr. Mork. Just left pain management & got results from most recent thoracic MRI. Now I better understand some of my MRI findings (IE rotary upper thoracic levoscoliosis; multilevel degenerative changes w multilevel facet joint arthropathy & foraminal stenosis. Foraminal stenosis: mild @ T8/9 & T5/6, moderate @T4/5 & severe @ T1/2. Thank you very much again.
Dude you are so cool ! This is one of the best videos I’ve ever seen period, all genres included. I will now start seriously digging in cause, I’ve never learned so much in 2 minutes. TY! So much all my best to you brother!!
THANK YOU for the video! It was very helpful. I have the diagnosis on paper but have yet to see a doctor for interpretation. Thank you again!! You explained it to where I could understand!
11 mm L5-S1 anterolisthesis. There are bilateral L5 pars defects. Because of the anterolisthesis (grade2)and the disc bulge extending into the foramina there is severe L5 foramen narrowing bilaterally can you help explain?
This messages for doctor Tony Moore my name is David I've just been diagnosed with central spinal canal stenosis I've just watched your video about stenosis Is there hope
Dr Mork , I have exactly what you are showing in this video and the drs I have seen suggest fusion except one and she thinks maybe a coflex Device would help. Do you have any experience with the device at the l5s1 level ? Any other thoughts would be appreciated as well .
I always enjoy watching your videos after watching it I felt more knowledgeable and have more insight about my spinal problems. But there’s nothing much I could do to reduce my back pain 😞
Dr. Tony Mork I really wish I could have came to see you yesterday for you to tell me what is the real problems in my spine instead of just watching your videos. But Australia and is a long way away from America and with the spinal condition I have now there’s no hope for to go there not to mention with the cost involved. I remember you said that you will be in your Florida office this time I wonder if you have a chance to see the CT and MRI CDs I have sent to you May 7th about month ago ? In a registered post N0 RR155794360AU. From Victoria Australia. It would appreciate if you could let me know has the mail reached your office or not I have tried to track the post from Australia Post but failed. please let me know one way or the other. Your sincerity Linda Lyn.
I also would like to thank those patients’s posts for share their medical experiences in their life journeys They are very useful since we all on the quest for pain relief and for better health thanks for sharing 👋❤️🙏🏻
I've been diagnosed with multiple problems in my lumber spine but I have L5 facet joint arthritis and L5 S1 mild posterior disc bulging accompanied with biforaminal narrowing on the right is that the same thing just a different medical term being used
My doctor has diagnosed foraminal stenosis for me. About 2 years ago firstly I had pain on the ball of my foot then suddenly my leg gave way and I could only hobble short distances. It took about 6 months with the aid of amitriptolin to start to feel better. I then went to a Chiropractor who I’m certain did me harm and set me back another 6 months. I had an injection at the hospital which helped until I had a Colonoscopy which set me very slightly back. I’m 76. What I’m curious about is at my age can my body repair itself? Only I can now do things I couldn’t do which I don’t understand. I’m trying not to take the amitriptolin and it hasn’t made any difference. I have no pain only general lower back pain when over doing it. The only thing I have been doing this last 6 months is taking Vb12. Do you think it’s that?
Im really new to the back pain world but my MRI today revealed "Multilevel disc desiccation Moderate to Severe . severe bilateral neural forminal narrowing c5-c6, moderate to severe canal stenosis with slight effacement of the ventral cord.Says basically same for c6-c7 as well as c4-c5. This has really been hurting bad for 6 weeks now any advice on what all this really means or anyones experience would be greatly appreciated! Im 43 had DVT in left leg about 12 yrs ago now and have extensive nerve damage fromthat already this past 6 weeks has really brought me down mentally it was already a struggle with pain everyday for so long now its my back.
Hello, I have had 3 surgeries, the last one was a fusion of L4-5 L5-S1. I had this mri done mri done at my local hospital after falling down at home, Will I need another surgery to stop the back & leg pain??? Thank you for the video L4-5 demonstrates posterior fusion with pedicle screws and rods. There is mild broad-based disc bulge which indents thecal sac. There is mild bilateral neural foraminal narrowing. L5-S1 demonstrates disc desiccation and decreasing to disc height. There is posterior extension disc osteophyte complex which abuts the S1 nerve roots within the spinal canal. There is facet ligamentum flavum were made with associated severe bilateral neural foraminal narrowing.
You have a wonderful way of explaining this that none of the 5 doctors I've been to could. How do you decide whether to go inside with an endoscope or drill through the facet from the outside?
tony i have a L4 L5 S1 i just got my new i had 3 MRI but this one says L5 S1 broad posterior disc hernation which is slightly more prominent than on the prior study deforms the ventral epidural space and there is left greater than the right foraminal extension with abutment of exiting left L5 root and narrowing of the foramina diminished disc space height ventral extension of the disc remains and discogenic chages and scmorl;s node in the end platates.mild facet hypertrophic changes remain L4L5 S1 ,,,,,doc my friend told me narrowing part of stenosis ,doctor can you help me out with this ,,thank i been watching ur video;s there very good ,,thank you,,
I had a recent MRI of my cervical and shoulder the findings show Mild acromioclavicular degenerative changes Mild subacromial /subdeltoid bursitis Rotator Cuff: Mild thickening and increased signal of supraspinatus. Interval development of focal signal abnormality in the anterior aspect of infraspinatus along the myotendinous junction...Labrum: Heterogeneity of the superior, inferior, and posterior labrum with abnormal signal to base, consistent with degenerative fraying and tearing...Cartilage: Greater than 50% thickness cartilage loss on the posterior aspect of the glenoid. There is associated mild subchondral cyst formation. I need your help and advice; I have had numerous steroid injections into C4-C5 and L4-L5 and I am on anti-inflammatory medications and a generic 60 mg Cymbalta. The medications seem not to be helping at all with me dealing with the pain in my shoulder neck middle back lower back and my left butt check is also on burning. I really need help.
Thank you for that information I've searched for several hours to no avail of answers to what this was I wish there was a way to ask you more questions I have several
I’ve got left sided “moderately severe” narrowing at L5/S1 level likely due to my spondy at L5/S1. They said I’m not a candidate for surgery but I’m in low back pain all the time and have very noticeably weak legs ever since this happened. It’s been over 5 years of slowly turning into a couch potato despite how hard I try to be active. Wish I could get fusion surgery to put the L5 back where it should be so the nerve wouldn’t be impinged. If anyone knows of a good doctor in Ontario Canada please let me know.
Thanks Dr. Mork. I have a question. I had a lumbar fusion at L4/L5 with titanium hardware and now I have "severe" foraminal stenosis with left L4 nerve root impingement. Could surgery help with this?
Was you able to find out? I'm going through the same problem & have the exact hardware. Nothing helps my pain!! I've been through everything now waiting on the surgeons office to schedule me. Just had MRI done yesterday
I have L4-L5 stenosis am very upset from this and I don't have any idean. What can I do? doctor told that operate this but am not ready for oprating. Am only 38 years old plz help me
Recently I was having severe lower back pain, tingling in my toes, weakness and pinching in my thighs, random incontinence especially when I lay flat on my back. I went to my primary care physician and they sent me for an MRI. I got the MRI done and a few days later the doctor's office called and wanted me to come in right away to review the results. They told me that I have "multilevel degenerative hypertrophic facet joint changes. L5/S1 severe left subarticular lateral recess stenosis, moderate-to-severe left foraminal stenosis in L4." I am 29 years old and I just found this out last week. What are my options? What can I do on my part? I am in severe pain and my doctor only gives me enough hydrocodone/apap for four days. Thanks Doc!
I feel for you, so awfully young with such dire findings. Radiculopathy is a lifelong battle. Unrelenting. I'm 60 yo, with severe multilevel foraminal stenosis of cervical & lumbar spine; severe L5-S1disc degenerative changes, epidural lipomatosis (fat) causing narrowing of thecal sac. PT is often the smartest 1st step for most patients, while injections, surgery tend to fail. Medication management reeks drama, but has its benefits. Pick your poison.
In regards to the lumbar spine, where there is an area of basically bone on bone between the vertebrae (spelling?)with basically no disc left. Would this not require a fusion and the space between the vertebrae restored by the use of some sort of spacer usually used in a fusion? Thanks for the video.
I have spinal stenosis, thickening of the ligamentum flavum,a herniated disc at L5, S1, and small intersseous hemangiomas with ens plate changes. Is surgery my only option for relief?
Saw the neurologist today. He's going to refer me to pain management for steroid shots. Thing is, my dad and brother, who suffer from the exact same thing, got those and it didn't work.
@@ryno1808 I forgot I even left this comment. XD Well... turns out I have Ankylosing Spondylitis, which explains a lot. I have about 5° of motion in my spine now. :P
Well, presumably a surgeon did it and thought it to be necessary. On the positive side it would have allowed for good access to do what needed to be done and you will not be able to see any scar. Most importantly - was the surgery a success?

Can prolonged sitting and bad posture (slouching) cause foraminal stenosis? What measures should I take to stop making it worse?
Your individual anatomy probably contributes more to foraminal stenosis that your posture.

Great presentation. Very interesting! Whether you need surgery or not, I find seated Tai Chi and breathing exercises very helpful as well.
You mentioned about decompressing the nerve root by removing bone, what is that proceedure called? Facetectomy? Laminectomy?? Thanks
Foraminal canal decompression with partial removal of facets
Does that affect stability of the spine??
