  • We started working on collecting and re-using all the rain and grey water from our Off Grid Tiny House in the mountains. So we can use it in our future food forest in the new part of our land, where we have big plans. This was one of the hardest weeks to date.

    Who are we?
    We're Eugenia and Pepe, a couple who previously lived and traveled full-time in our self converted camper van before the pandemic hit in 2020. We started envisioning our dream life in the mountain and how to life a more self sufficient lifestyle. Here we are... living at a cabin in the mountain that we've been building from scratch during the past year, tackling all sorts of home building and DIY projects.

    The way these two look at each other, via the camera, shows just how much they are in love. I’m as much in awe of their partnership as the visions they are building.

    Great work! But definitely you should consider moving the solar panels as they get a lot of shade in the afternoon! And dirt too :-)

    nice work. mark the places where pipes and cables go into the house on the wall, so you know next time when you have to dig for what ever reason. do you plan to collect the water in a tank under ground or what is your idea?

      @ModernHouseCabin  2 роки тому

      Yes, VERY hard work Heinrich! What protection can you put? They usually put a layer of sand over it so you can now when you are getting close to it. We didn’t 😞

    Not sure if you know, but an advertisement for insulation keeps popping up on my screen every approximately 30 seconds and when I click on the x it takes your video back to the beginning. Anyway, I love the sense of style you both have - someone has a very artistic eye!

      Hi Mercia! Thank you! I am sorry to hear that! we don't control the ads unfortunately, that's UA-cam doing! hopefully it gets fixed soon :(

    I agree, earthwork is alway back-breaking. I think you rain water collection pipe is way too thin. When it rain hard you won’t get sufficient flow. You need at least a 50mm pipe.

    • @ModernHouseCabin
      @ModernHouseCabin  2 роки тому

      Thank you Toby! We will show all the pipe details next Sunday! 🙌

    No protection for the water pipe? No pull string in the electrical conduit?

    Why didn't you use a small trench digger? I rented one for my DIY project.

    Shouldn't you have a large water storage container. You said you wanted to be self sustainable. I was a little shocked during your build considering the outer shell no rain collection and storage.
    Maybe I watched your improvement videos out of sequence.
    I am very jealous. I have always wanted to live sustainably.
    Love the videos

    hola. you are spanish right? im costa rican so wecould speak spanish, but i feel sometimes other people can benefit and contribute from comments and answers in youtube. just joined your channel so i have some video binging to do. youprob answered in previous videos my questions. is it expensive to rent equipment i portugal? why not rent a small digger for that trench? you rented a big back hoe for the water/electrical conexion. is it expensive to hire a construction worker to come for a day and help out? we are both in our early 50s, so unlikeyou, we will need help with the labor intense work. why portugal and not spain? i have seen many expats doing the ofgrid projects in the spain counties that are abandoned with very cheap land. my heart is very set with portugal, but i still have spain and italy in my list. it would be nice to know your thinking process to choose portugal as you did travel in your van, you must have a better idea of what to use for selecting the final location. gracias de antemano.
