And then eve doesn’t allow any one to even videocall and show the baby till eve’s mother meets the baby??? Wow

I'm German and we are way more honest and direct than Americans. Therefore I don't think that OP in the first story is an AH. The family insisted on an answer and she gave it. It's not her job to spare feeling of people who are physically keep me from leaving, feeling entitled to an answer just as they felt entitled to prevent the other grandmother from seeing the baby.

@@warwick3039 it can take up to 2 years for a woman’s brain chemistry to return to normal. it’s her mother who manipulated her and made her feel terrible for missing the birth, which wasn’t even her fault. she was going through an insane hormonal change and her mom took advantage of that; from the “info diet” comment, it sounds like she already had a habit of being a little too involved and trying to control things. no one could have known that jack’s mother was going to die in such a terrible way, but you have to realize that he completely respected her position on the matter before that even happened. but then she died and there no way he couldn’t resent her sister for it, which is incredibly unfortunate. also? a year is absolutely NO TIME AT ALL when you’re mourning a tragedy like that plus the marital fallout that followed. they’re literally still picking up the pieces at the time that OP made her comments. the sister definitely could’ve handled things better but she probably spiraled like crazy after MIL and jack began to completely ignore her. being almost 8 months post-partum, i would’ve actually lost my god damn mind if this happened to me. new baby, changing body and hormones, no sleep, major anxiety around just hearing my baby cry, risk of PPD and PPP, etc… it can be really intense for some people and then to add on all that? i would need to be committed

Story one is so horrific. I feel sooooo bad for Jack, I can’t even imagine his emotions. Eve and her mother are 100% to blame for Jack’s mom never getting a chance to see her grand baby. They are horribly selfish humans and if I were Jack I’d never want anything to do with them again. Why is Eve’s mom more important that she should be “first in line” over jacks mom when it comes to seeing a grandchild that is the first born in both families? Just because Eve is the one who gave birth does not make her the ONLY decision maker and I say that at 8months pregnant. Would I love for my mom to be first to meet my baby? Sure. But if she couldn’t make it and my husband’s family got there first, so be it. We all will hopefully have a lifetime with the baby so it doesn’t matter who sees her first.
Eve absolutely deserves everything she has coming to her in regards to Jack’s hatred. The nerve to leave to “teach him a lesson” as if she didn’t ruin his life by being so selfish is absolutely disgusting and unforgivable.

Y’all saying that she deserves abuse (which the silent treatment and stonewalling are abuse) because she was newly postpartum making a dumb decision likely due to pressure from her mom is insane. He’s allowed to grieve and be mad OF COURSE. What he did ended up being abusive though and nobody deserves abuse. Nobody could’ve predicted his mom would die in a freak accident and if he’s unwilling to work on things then he needed to say he wanted to separate and leave, not withdraw entirely.

1st story op is not the a.h, that sis of theirs is the a.h. his mom, she could of seen the baby either in person or video call. Parents on both sides have equal rights to see the baby first, after the birth parents, Jack will always regret not pushing the issue and having his mom drive down. Ops sis is a narcissist and so is her mom, toxic. The leaving and giving silent treatment is supposed to be a punishment, it is not, not for those done with the abuse, I'm pretty sure. Also if his mom came down to their place, stayed in guest room, the mom could still be alive. He probably feels a lot of different things. To me it seems like the mom just had to be the first to see the grandbaby. It was a selfish behavior. And it almost feels like competition for the grandma who didn't want anyone to see her before she did. That was so unfair. When my granddaughter was born we were all there in the waiting room. I was ok with the other grandma seeing her first because it was her daughter and she almost passed during the labor. But she also made it short so we could all see her as we all did. He has every justified in his hurt but the way he goes about it is not ok.
Eve could've never known his mom would die and her mom got into her head.
In a regular situation it would not become such a big issue. It would become something they could work out. She is not responsible for his moms death. Her level of Ah-ness just seems far more intense because of the death of jacks mom.

@@Sunflowers_220 I disagree, it’s most likely not the only time the wife was controlling. Specially when she was to pick the name because she is carrying the baby. He lost his mom at an insane time in his life and rightfully holds resentment towards his wife. At that point you leave, you do not give the silent treatment for five months. Which she should have done long before and left him at peace without her presence. It wasn’t until Op laughed and told her the painful truth that she realized her delusion. Op said he still is angry and resentful, and I don’t blame him. The silent treatment is a no brainer, he despised her at that moment but stayed for the baby. The fact that he is willing to go to couple’s therapy is because he still loves her, but he is not willing to ever go through the same situation or pain so he made conditions. Time is one thing you can’t get back.”
He would say that when someone would fly by going way too fast or when we’d here a car engine flying by in the distance. It’s a great reminder.

She showed up to my job a week after I started and asked the front counter to call me. She asked them to call me to the front counter "Because I did not check-in with my parole officer that day."
My coworker came around the orner and hissed that my 'P.O. was here!' Several of my nearby coworkers eyes were the size of dinner plates. I was very confused as I don't have a P.O. and have never been in trouble with the police. I peaked around the corner and saw her 80's hairdo and informed my nosy coworkers that it was just my mom.
She now does this to every new employee. 😅 I've learned that she is not allowed to be bored. Otherwise she gets... creative 😂

Op telling her sister not to overvalue herself is NOT the asshole; But, instead of telling Eve that she shouldn’t over value herself… the more effective way to communicate would have been to say “Stop undervaluing Jack and your in-laws because they are your family too!”
Simultaneous multiple life changing events cause massive stress! I think all these people need as much support as they can get and no one needs to through any more fire on the situation.
Eve, no matter her personality, is physically recovering from childbirth. We have no idea how extensive that recovery is… even if it was an “easy” childbirth or a massive C section surgery; several weeks are needed for recovery. Hormonal dumps have been happening from the time she got pregnant, and will still be happening for a few months… even if she chooses not to breast feed her child. No matter how prepared she thought she was for the life change of motherhood, I can guarantee She wasn’t prepared for the actuality! On top of that whatever happened to her Aunt, that caused her mother to shift her plans and then miss her flight home (all common and even reasonable expectations, in what seems to be a series of unfortunate events) ultimately Jack and Eve both agreed to have everyone wait… NO ONE could predict the tragedy that befell Jack’s mother!
Jack is in Horrible Grief now, and a sadness so deep his decisions are unreliable, explosive, devastating… all reflections of the deep pain he’s feeling.
Both Eve and Jack need support and GRACE, right now!
Healing and blessings to them and their daughter, whose birthday will likely be a difficult anniversary all her life.

    Sister- Not the AH,
    - I think the fact that the sister *had* to say this explains a lot about the wife's decisions at the start of the story. It seems like she either doesn't care enough to consider it a big deal or she is so unaware that she doesn't see why it is a big deal.
    - It seems like the wife/mom don't really get it/are in denial. I mean, for a woman who unapologetically prioritized her mom over all else regardless of the consequences (depriving daughter and husband of a chance to bond, straining relationships w/ husband's family) you'd think she'd understand how hard it must be for her husband.
Wife- Not the AH. She is the devil.
    - Her and the MIL deciding that MIL basically has dibs, no matter how much time she takes. Despite the MIL choosing to go to her sister's and showing no urgency in returning, the wife unilaterally decided that no one could see her *and her husband's* baby.
    - Even if nothing happened to MIL2, that would still be a hell of a grenade the wife threw. What would you do or say as a husband and father? Fielding calls all day and the next asking about your baby and you have to say "I don't know my wife won't let me see her." It seems like that would be so hard to come back from as far as the relationship with the husband's family. It would be one thing to ask for a few hours or until later in the day max...but that's just a slap in the face.
    -
Obviously she had to offer to go to the funeral, but she would only have caused more pain for the attendees that knew that she denied her MIL the chance to meet her grandchild, which I imagine was the topic of the last conversation she had with a few people.
Mom- The devil apple doesn't fall far from the devil tree.
    - She chose to go be with her sister, which is fine, but that was her choice. She can't have everything. What kind of sociopath would choose to leave, come to the conclusion that it is so important that NO ONE can see the baby. But...not important enough to get a flight home? Not excited? Not feeling guilty for keeping everyone waiting?
Aunt- Not the devil b/c her world just burned down, BUT she is the AH. For not just going to where the baby is being born for a day.
Husband- AH to himself for not divorcing his wife. She didn't cause the car wreck, but her actions before it and her response to it afterward is obviously indicative of someone who is profoundly self-centered and incapable of basic empathy.

1st story: no its both mom and eve. She needed to hear it because its true. Both grandparents at the least, should have been able to meet the baby. Mainly because you never know. Plus its juat as much his not to share as well. What if it was the other way around? Also the mom. Mom could have pushed eve to thinking she neeeds to be the first.

Guyyyys 🤦🏻‍♀️ “Theory” in science is the highest form of knowledge. Theories are hypotheses which are tested repeatedly and never disproven. In colloquial English we use theory completely differently as something that is just theoretical, but in science, it is basically the opposite lol. For example, germ theory, evolutionary theory, etc. These are as close to fundamental truths as we can get 😆

Ok story time: my elementary school class was notorious for bullying. Over the 9 years from K-8th grades, around 7 kids left to go to other schools due to bullying. One of the big problems was that the parents enabled and encouraged the behavior and were very cliquey themselves. They saw their children as perfect angels who could do no wrong. Needless to say, I was one of the kids targeted by bullies. At one point a girl I’ll call S was bullying me in the same way over and over again like clockwork during every recess and break. I told my mom and older sister by three years what was happening and the next day at school, my sister, a decidedly tiny and weak person in comparison to S who was quite athletic, goes up to her and says “hey, I don’t like how you are treating my sister. I’m watching you.” And apparently that vague statement from a 10 year old made to this 8 year old bully was enough to send her crying to her mother terrified. The school administrators ended up getting involved and my sister had to apologize which was ridiculous because they never did anything when us bullied kids spoke up and asked for help. Her mom was in such a tizzy about it. And you know what? For the most part, it worked! S was less openly hostile to me after that point. It’s just a funny story that my family still laughs about to this day.

In Some cultures people do not like others to have access to a child because of superstition of evil / ill will. Eg. Don't let people have access to photo because someone can curse the child via the image. Don't let anyone hold the newborn because negative energies will be placed on child by jealousy

If no plane was available get in the car and go.

OP might be a bit rude, but someone needed a reality check, I guess. keeping stepmom from seeing the baby before mom was a dick move. I would understand if it was one day or two, but three weeks ? Please, she's as much Lori's grandma than op's mom. And the sis had the galls to leave her husband to teach him a lesson ? No, please, she's irredeemable.

Eve and her mom clearly see themselves as more important than the paternal side of the family. At the end of the day that's jacks baby too, and his mom had as much of a right to meet the baby as Eves' mom. Tbh, I dont think pregnancy hormones are an excuse for this one. This shows that Eve will always prioritize her family over jacks when it comes to the baby.

You can pick up a DNA test at Walmart. That's how my sister was proven.
Now both my sons questioned the paternity. I told my son's the same thing. That once you open that door you can not close it. So be sure you are ready for the answer. Regardless, I told them both that no matter their choice they are still my grandkids and I would not change that as id been part of their lives for 6,4 and 1 yr. Both son's decided to leave well enough alone. My oldest son told me that someone did it for him. My youngest son's ex wife is currently pregnant and even though it's not my son's child we all collectively told her if we do for one we'll do for both. Both her and her new partner were happy to hear that. Children are innocent. They didn't ask to be here and it sucks to see them treated differently because of biology.

This is how I can really tell these three are young, first of all everyone missed the very first part of the story when she doesn’t even bring up how she met Matt. Shelley goes into how her sister Jennifer met Matt. They’ve always worked in the same company, they’ve made sure they have the same schedules. Their collage degrees are even the same!! OP doesn’t say one word about they met!! She talks about her fiancé Matt and her sister Jennifer have the same hobbies and how they play almost every night with her, from either video games or D&D. Where is there anything about what Matt does with OP? Where does it say he carves any time out for OP??
Now while yes this is his wedding as well, but Jennifer is STILL her sister, she should have gone to her sister and said while I’m his best man I’m STILL your sister. Now I’d like to have my friend make my dress, would you come with me to help design it? And the groomsmen always color match the bridesmaids so those two just doing whatever is incredibly disrespectful to HIS fiancé.
I honestly feel like if OP broke up with Matt and she moved away before she could sign the lease on a new apartment Jennifer and Matt would be together and her whole family would be incredibly happy about it. Matt and Jennifer act more like a couple than OP and Matt. And the way OP describes Matt and Jennifer’s relationship it’s almost like she knows it too.

I think that Eve and the mother were being so ridiculous with Eve being the victim of everything that’s what made OP laugh. And with that she tried to leave and they wouldn’t let her. If this would’ve been my sister, that this happened to I would’ve told her the same thing because she needs to hear the truth and she’s obviously selfish entitled, and the mother is contributing to it.

The second story with the sisters being the groomsmen got MESSED up in the second update. Her sister and mark and OP’s mom are the AH’s! Ugh I feel so bad for OP. Mark basically admitted to just dating OP because her SISTER WAS TOO HOT and young so he was bored at a party and flirted with op and just went with it even though he wanted her sister! And mom blamed OP for dating mark her sister’s “best friend” as she was crying after mark told her all this and said they “needed a break.” OP isn’t a saint but mark is the AH and her sister is the AH for not telling her sister mark made fun and complained about her 24:7 their entire relationship and moms the AH for blaming her daughter instead of comforting her; she comforted Jennifer instead! Maybe that’s partly why OP had such strong feelings about her sister. I hope she just ditched them all and moved away not including any of them in her life anymore because none of them appear to care about her at all

It sounds like they’re both a bit narcissistic and this is the reaction of the not golden child.
