Thanks! Nice work on the Tekken Tag Tournament. Sometimes you dont need the resistors, it depends on the TV etc. In my case I had already proven that using resistors with the Super Gun gave a perfect picture, so I just wanted the connection to be identical to what was working. I might find that the colour levels are too bright / dark on different TV in future...
Nice job! I somehow managed to get the innerarts of Tekken Tag Tournament arcade once & had to make a scart from the jamma connector. Was my first solder job actually. Being 10 thumbs i bought a cheapo scart cable and cut it in half at the middel. The single wires inside was individually protected thankfully. Then i could safely do one wire at the time & not worry about "messing up" inside the scart head. Didnt solder any resistors either .. so i was pretty scared but it didnt blow up my tv :D
Nice work! Always good to find informative videos. Got a consolized MVS of the same type of board you have. For some reason the image is shifted to the left and then cropped off as a result. This happens on all the TVs I have. A bit annoying to have status bars, text and such partly missing. Still trying to figure out why this happens. Everything is wired up the same way you did it, same resistors. I'm thinking of adding a 1k pot to the sync wire and tweak it. Hopefully that will solve the problem.
I think my newer Panasonic TV did the exact same thing for me, so I do think its the sync signal. You might consider changing the crystal (check on Neo Geo forum, there was a thread recently about getting it to almost exactly 60fps instead of the 59.3 or whatever it currently outputs). That might solve your problem!
Interesting, thanks for the tip! I'll look it up and give it a read. Reminds me a bit of the issue some old PAL PS1 revisions have. A chipped system would output black and white when playing NTSC games. The remedy were to change a crystal on the board.
I've been searching and reading on the neo-geo forums, but I can't seem to find it. Do you by chance recall what the thread title was, or which subforum it was in? I also want to add several extra video outputs for versatility's sake. Found a board from someone called JROK which seems to do exactly what I want. Maybe that board also will remedy my situation. Hopefully I can find someone that sell it, and also agree to ship it to outside USA.
Was this your post? www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?269730-Neo-Geo-MVS-MV-1FZ-picture-shifted-to-the-left I will see if I can find that thread. basically you will find there's a 24Mhz XTAL on the board at the moment, it just needs replacing with something a tiny bit faster I think. I will see if I can find it now.
Here's the thread:- www.neo-geo.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-222404.html Looks like 24.167829MHz is what you need to swap out the 24Mhz crystal. But trying to find one - that's a new problem! I cannot see any on eBay, but maybe mouser or digikey might sell them. You can also see that some of the AES use this:- wiki.neogeodev.org/index.php?title=Clock
those resisters you recommend 1:04 , do they need to be a particular tolerance or wattage? was looking for some on ebay but im not familiar with electronics so im just going by instructions. thanks again
This is awesome. I think I missed the clip where you wired up the female DIN port to the interals of the MVS. Do you have that clip? Or a guide to what to wire from where please?
Thanks, I didn't show the socket part but the wiring is covered in this video:- ua-cam.com/video/mI9VXEyKhSE/v-deo.html I show the underside of the board there and the 5v mod (to remove reliance on 12v for sound), and the sound outputs as well as red, green, blue and sync connections. You can just wire those to the corresponding pins on the DIN socket as I wired the plug in the earlier video.
Thanks for the reply. Ive watched these videos again and again, I'm gonna get my parts soon. I'm going to get a MVS 1c so I have the top loading cartridge. I just haven't a clue where to start with wiring the socket to the main board. I might well try a Jamma edge connector and then wire those to the right components as opposed to directly onto the board. I'll have to see. Thanks again, So cool!
Look on eBay for DIN connectors. They do different sizes of male and female connectors. Get a female for the MVS, and a male for the cable. I would go for an 8 pin DIN to cover enough connections for gnd, +5, red, green, blue, left audio, right audio, sync.
+ALAN DORAME Speak to XianXi on the Neo Geo Forum - He can probably recommend a good S-Video encoder. There are a few around that will take the RGB signal and give you both S-Video and Composite. The S-Video is a good alternative if your TV doesn't support SCART RGB.
Yeah i have been trying to use the forums but it says im not allowed to do anything. That either my account got suspended or is waiting activation? Do you know how i can check if its activated?
+ALAN DORAME I honestly don't know - It's a pain trying to get an account activate on there, I do know that! It took me a few months to register. You want something like this:- www.jasenscustoms.com/NEOBITZ-Component-S-Video-Composite-Video-Encoder_p_52.html There might be cheaper sellers, contact XianXi on www.jamma-nation-x.com/jammax/contact.php to see if he has any cheaper boards.
I bought some multicored wire with the relevant number of cores and a seperate SCART plug and did it that way. You could use a Megadrive RGB lead and modify it (put a different DIN connector on) - that would work OK, but you might need to change the resistor sizes in the Megadrive cable.
using the iron to melt the heat shrink is genius! this is like the 3rd tip ive learded from your channel already, thanks for putting up these vids.

Hey! No worries, I've learned a bunch of things from your channel as well lol. Ditto - keep doing the vids on your channel!

10% tolerance, 1/4 watt will be fine! Thanks for watching and commenting =)
thanks for that, np I really enjoy watching the vids
do you connect grounds inside scart plug (pins 4 5 9 13 17 18 21)...?
Yes, that's always a good idea! But, not always required. Sometimes they are all joined up at the TV end anyway.

Check out the tutorials section on this website:- www.jamma-nation-x.com/jammax/ There's probably a guide to converting the 1c on there.
Thats cool - thanks! I've been reading guides like that but I think they are finally making sense! Thank you!
Where can I buy rgb sockets

so we don't have scart here in the U.S how can i make a composite connection to go to my tv?
or av cable connection? whatever is best? thank you :)

Okay i will contact him and see whats'up how does that hook up to the console though and composite cables? Thank you
+ALAN DORAME I think it solders onto the RGB and Sync connections on the MVS, then provides S-Video, and Composite to allow you to connect to a TV.
For reference, where did you find the resistor specs for the RGBS lines?
Edit: OK, I see. It came from that Supergun adapter. :)
Yeah =D I found they give a really perfect picture!
I don't get how you wired up the video output if u made it like a AES port are you using a cable like the original mega drive to connect to the TV?
I bought some multicored wire with the relevant number of cores and a seperate SCART plug and did it that way. You could use a Megadrive RGB lead and modify it (put a different DIN connector on) - that would work OK, but you might need to change the resistor sizes in the Megadrive cable.
