I got this bible last year mostly because of this review so thanks for that! Funny story, I forgot it on the top of my car while I was loading my kid in the car and didn’t realize it until it hit the road at 45 mph. It wasn’t damaged at all despite hitting the pavement very hard so I tip my hat to them for the Bible being so durable.
Started out with an ESV Large Print Compact in a TruTone cover. I haven't even finished reading it ONCE, and already I've ordered THIS one. It's not anything against that LPC (I'm reading that one to the very END -- or, rather, the end of my reading plan, which will be a repeat of Isaiah); if anything, it's because I'm getting into the ESV *far more than I expected!*
I've been looking for a good bible for reference purposes (I gave it all up ages ago thankfully), but I figure if I'm gonna own one, it may as well be a nice one, lol. Thanks for the review!
If, after all this time you still haven't obtained an ESV copy, AND you already have a tablet or computer with Amazon Kindle on it, then take heart. There is an ESV Bible available through the Kindle Store for *free.*
The Leather Thinline is basically perfect. My #1. I actually have one as a backup! A bit of a digression- I wish Crossway would note what versions are line-matched. It is not that I bought a book that was NOT line-matched, I was pleasantly surprised that it was: I acquired the Crossway Pocket Buffalo Leather (so cute and surprisingly lays flat!), and was pleasantly surprised that it was line-matched! I am glad it was line-matched and I feel like they took it upon themselves to line-match for the sake of how thin those pages are. Also I wish they would note if the pages have gilding. Basically, just tell us all the specs for us nerds! Compact Large Print Buffalo Leather due in soon. 6pt to 8pt should be more readable and we will see the sacrifice as I compare it to the standard Compact that I have, which is a close #2. Thanks and appreciate all your videos. New products coming out soon from ESV Crossway so I am anxious to see you review them.
Great job, Tim! I use KJV and NRSV mostly. I like the ESV, too. For a powerful experience, Yale published Tyndale’s New Testament with his glosses. In many ways, Tyndale’s is the most literary and highly readable version-roughly about 85% of it shows up in KJV. An excellent read for anyone who loves and uses KJV is Adam Nicolson’s “God’s Secretaries, the Making of the King Janes Bible.”Stay awesome! Mike, aka Siegfried.
I rewatch this one from time to time, lol. I think if and when Crossway comes out with another minor textual update, I’ll be looking for a good ol’ thinline in brown. ✌️🤓
Tim - I bought this bible and my copy has some serious paper cockling near the interior gutter. Maybe the binding is sewn too tight?? I'm considering returning it.
@@evangelistmatthew783 Oh... well, not ALL "genuine leather" Bibles are made with pigskin, but many are. The Buffalo editions that I have seen definitely feel like an upgrade from standard genuine leather edition from the same publishers.

I'm deciding between this and the ESV Large Print Wide Margin Bible The reason I want the Thinline is for portability But the Wide Margin has line matching and some margins if I want to write some things on it. Is the Thinline ok for highlighting and writing symbols? Is there a Thinline that has line matching? Thanks again!
I think the paper will hold up well with some light writing. I believe they have some line-matched editions in their premium line, but I think those are out of print at the moment.
I thought they’d go edge-lined like my (10.5pt) Zondervan NASB buffalo Thinline. A pity. (And the Zondervan is only another $10 for a quality, easily read Bible.) C’mon Crossway. You need to up your game.

Honestly. I’m annoyed with ESV and NIV for changing their font, the comfort prints annoy my eyes and the super dark bold text also bothers me and I don’t have eye issues at all!! I actually read my Bible daily and different times of the day and my eyes just zone out constantly with this dark text and it’s also not lined matched. I HUNT for lighter prints of old bibles because I won’t be able to find them soon enough. I have a Buffalo leather ESV compact and I read it often when I’m out and about (it’s my purse bible lol) but I stick with my old journaling bible which is MUCH easier on the eyes!!

If you want the complete ESV you need to go to Augustine Institute and get the ESVCE.

What would be a comparable esv bible in terms of this bibles size that is premium and not made by crossway?
The Allan ESV1... but it’s a bit thicker, and a crossway text block. There aren’t any non-Crossway premium thinlines that I’m aware of.

Does the ESV have a Comfort Print?
Did you have a chance to look at the topgrain edition of this bible? Does it compare quality-wise?
I did not, but I have other Crossway top grains and I think they are slightly nicer than this one (a bit softer and floppier).
