In Virginia during the late summer we get Pompano and I use an 8 weight rod and reel with a sink tip line. The flies are a Sand Flea pattern. Very effective.
Amazing video. If you switch from clousers to a pop fleye bay anchovy you will increase your strikes. In August Seagrove is black with bay anchovies belched out from Choctawhatchee. I fly fish with a 3 way wire rig and three pop fleyes and catch doubles and triples. Keeps your leader from being ground up too.
@@jareddavisoutdoors3908 Almost entirely ladyfish. Its hard to get it past them. If you can get it out further and down faster (with some weight) I've caught redfish, Spanish and sailfin cats. I foul hooked a smaller blacktip but he got off. I saw some bigger shadows, but couldn't cast far enough to then or get through the ladyfish.
@@jareddavisoutdoors3908 btw the fly is a super simple tie. Its a white thread body, tan craft fur wing and the bay anchovy fleye sticker. I stipple the craft fur with a fluorescent green sharpie and the put a set of big eyes on with UV resin on top the printed eye on the sticker.
Sadler Sanders 9’ 8wt. I was using a cheap reel I bought a Walmart. I didn’t want to use my trout reel for the obvious reason of line size as well as salt water is really hard on reels. I used a chart/white clouser minnow....... that was it.
You can use fresh water reels and rods in salt water any day all day, you just need to rinse them well with fresh water and a drop of oil when you are finished for the day. I have lived in Florida for over 30 years. I fish both fly and spin reels. Two of my rods and reels I bought in 1981 both freshwater zero issues.

I was on vacation on the Atlantic coast of Florida last October. I had Jacks on the fly to 16lbs from the beach. It was insane sport.
One of the most enjoyable beach fly fishing videos we've watched. Great footage man. Keep it up!
