This video is part of the Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation's Asian and Pacific Island Animated Histories Project. The song and lyrics are from Illegal: A New Musical co-created by Skyler Chin and Sita Sunil, and it is based on Skyler's grandfather's experiences at Angel Island.
From 1910 to 1940, over 500,000 immigrants were processed or detained at the former US Immigration Station at Angel Island. The majority were from Asia or the Pacific due to the country's exclusionary immigration policies.
