I just signed up. I need this course so badly - I can't quit tipping forward - no matter how hard I put my mind to it. I know this is going to be a game changer for my riding so thank you so much Amelia.

Thank you, sometimes we may not be even aware about some very slight deviations from the most desired correct position. Watching your video regarding gripping with legs in canter and realized I did it very slightly, but did it anyway. Just realized listing to your lesson that I am really reducing my stability on stirrups in canter with feet sometimes moving maybe a few mm forward or backward in the stirrup. Something small but meaningful. I realized this was driven by my seat and delicate gripping with my legs in canter. Was curious and impatient to correct it during my next training and checked immediately. Wow, the correction of my seat immediately and significantly change canter of my horse… I was even surprised how much. He also switched into trot a few times before I took care about this as well… since there was no gripping any longer… but it showed me how very, very delicate change of our seat influence our horse movements. My grip was almost invisible, but was in place… it makes me more curious about your further spots and lessons Amelia regarding rider's position. Thank you.

Your videos are so helpful! My instructor tends to tell me to relax my arms. I get really stiff and I'm not sure why. 🤷 I think it might have to do with the fact that I try to do everything perfectly and just end up being really tense

So glad you have enjoyed the videos! Sometimes, focusing on your seat can help with tension in the upper body. Check out this video for help: amelianewcombdressage.com/dressage-training/how-to-use-your-weight-aids-to-get-an-independent-seat/

I think in Sally Swift's "Centered Riding," she suggests the imagery of thinking of yourself as a melting ice cream cone to really get your seat into the saddle, to bring your weight down, and to relax :-)

Question: how much weight in heels/feet vs. seat? I’ve heard 80% weight in your feet and 20% seat as well as 70/30. Thanks!

      Hi Jennifer!
This video will give you a good idea!

Your seat is the most important element and will bear most of your weight though but it's hard to give an exact percentage!

Omg! I definitely needed this reminder. I feel like I use only 15% seat, 50% leg and 35% hands... lol at least I'm not yanking on the reins like some people
