- Personally, I think it's a damn shame that Jean Grey hasn't had more figures made of her. Today we're going to look at 2 versions of her 90's costume in order to find out which version is better!

Swap the new head onto the love triangle version for the definitive Jean💯
The main thing I like about the 97 version is the articulation but interms of design I like the love triangle Jean Grey
I’ve seen side by side comparisons between the two. after some consideration, I prefer the love triangle Jean grey. 97 Jean is a great figure, due to the pin less double jointed elbows and knees. The two alternate heads are beautifully sculpted. however I’m not a huge fan of the costume, it’s an updated take on jean’s classic attire but it suffers from the over designed look that some mcu suits suffer from. too many lines and high tech for me personally. if you are looking for a animated series style jean this is it, For comic book fans? love triangle is the Jean for you.
That's pretty much how I'm looking at it. Maybe we'll get an updated comic Jean on this style body (or something similar). I lean towards comic style on my display. I'm not saying either is bad.
The new head sculpts are beautiful IMO and slightly edge out the triangle version. Also the double joined elbows allow her to put her fingers to her head, which she does often when using her powers. ALSO (sorry to be that guy), but she's not "psychic" and can't see the future. 😅
Old one was a budget repaint with oversized heads, hands and arm guards, new one is a dedicated mold with better proportions and way better face paint, only issues on the new one is the limited torso articulation.
Honestly articulation should have went to the new one, double jointed elbows + she can actually touch her head which the character does when using her powers allot of the time. Both of them only have a single ball joint for any kind of torso movement and the range difference of waist vs diaphragm is almost nothing when you compare them side to side (with rotation being equally unsightly on both due to breaking paint lines and awkward anatomy). Also why would you "discount" the moving ponytail?
Bigger proper shaped breasts on the old one gives her a presence that the new one can never achieve. And it is apples vs oranges, fruit being the only similarity. One is comic accurate from the 90s and the other is a watered down, desexualized version of the current times we live in. I'm just glad they didn't make her ugly too which is an ongoing trend these days with females in TV shows and movies.
Funny thing is Hasbro makes completely naked male figures like the upcoming KaZar, but make sure to hide the beauty of female bodies. Goblin queen figure is even more desexualized than the animated series.
Far gone are the good old days of the 90s. I paid a hefty amount for the old Jean and the new one doesn't look appealing to me because it's from the current animated line. She would go in with the animated what if section of the collection if someone was into those. The old Jean can go into the comics OR the 90s animated show being not overly cartoons and saturated in colors.
X-MEN 97 its better if you want to recreate the animated series. Dhaaa
I believe the 97 is a great modern take of Jim Lee’s Jean. While the love triangle is more comic accurate and the best of the previous Jeans. 97’s head sculpts and pinless/double jointed articulation is far superior which makes posing more natural. Now seeing them side by side really shows how outdated the older Jeans are. All we need is butterfly joints, upper torso articulation and more paint so this could be the definitive Jean.
I'll probably just be buying the X-Men 97 figure for the extra head sculpts
the 97 headsculpts are great but they don't look anything like on tbe show, that kind of ruins the 97 figure for me, also the body is just weird, it has no shape too it, too simplistic
Man new 97 version is better hands down .
As a fan of this suit, I will pick the new one, Love triangle has a lot of issues, inaccurate ponytail, painted faces, the hair is too heavy for those legs with pins, she is gonna start to bend in a bow like. She can't do mental poses, like touch her head or anything. Love triangle is a very fragile figure for the painted faces, with the time the faces are gonna start to vanish since the paint isn't a good quality. I keep mine in the box, if you display her, another figure can ruined her painted face, or she can by a fall. If I want to check this mold, I got the VHS one, lol. New one has something very important, she is finally accurate with the material, she is very simiar like the art of the new series.
Personally, I find the love triangle version to be more comic accurate which is what I go for in my collection. I don't think the new one is a bad figure, I just prefer the other.
@@RockNerdRadio Yeah, but she is outdated at this time, Hasbro should update her with VHS, but that collection is a cashgrab.
@@RockNerdRadio There is no outdated in a bad way like you are implying as they fit in different shelves. Newer doesn't mean better as this Jean is designed by a dumb woman who desexualized everything versus Jim Lee is a legend in the comic industry.
