Thank you for following along with this hike! It really is an incredible thing that just one person has put together. It's too bad about the fires over the years but I still very much enjoyed, and even more so feel that I got a ton out of. New lessons and skills to take with me endlessly into the future. A massive thank you to Brett Tucker for the monumental efforts of creating this, and the many other routes. If you want more information about this hike I wrote a big blog on my website with all sorts of data and thoughts jupiterhikes.com/2023/05/22/grand-enchantment-trail-thru-hike-recap-2023/
Great hike, Tough Trail !! Do most hikers go west to east? Maybe a reverse direction would allow for more hiker encounters. Koi are omnivores and will eat just about anything they can swallow.
Powering through blowdown and post-fire regrowth is so tough. Loved the transitions - the culvert shot was really cool. Loved the series, thanks for taking us along.
Not sure if anyone mentioned this in the rest of the comment sections but the fish in the cattle trough helps keep the water clean (fish eat algae and mosquito larva). Congrats on the hike, was a cool series! Edit: just got to the spot where you talked more about the fish.
You can really see how the wildness of this trail made it feel like quite a different kind of accomplishment than the popular trails that come with built-in support from the outside world. Definitely seemed like a special experience 😊
I gave aid to a GET hiker on the road closet the Monitcello box, water and fruit. He was waiting a ride to Winston to pick up his box of food, etc. He had been there for 4 hours and didn't get picked. Those ranchers and cowboys can be cranky and selfish, bless their hearts.
JupiterHikes, a sincere thank for taking us along with you on this amazing journey! Your videos captured the raw beauty of the Grand Enchanment Trail, simply amazing!
I dearly love New Mexico, after years of living there, and it's nice to see your travels in familiar places. I miss the Sandias, the Manzanos, and the Gila.
Congrats on finishing your hike! One thing I've heard about rattlesnakes is that, because so many that rattle and act aggressive towards humans get killed, we're creating an unintentional selective breeding where the ones who stay quiet and hide are more likely to survive and reproduce. Not sure if it's true, but maybe one possible explanation for the quiet snake you passed on the trail. Anyway, great video series. Thanks for sharing it with us!
I've heard a similarly opposite thing, that non venemous snakes have learned to 'rattle' their tail against something to imitate and get predators to go away. Don't know if true but I have seen non venemous snakes do this.
What an accomplishment. Thank you for sharing. This one looked rough. I think you’ve done a good job of being positive but also keeping it real for people considering it. I’ll pass for sure and enjoy your footage.
Kudos, Jupiter. Another trail in the bag. Congratulations ! Thanks for the video coverage. As I decide on the trips I will do in retirement, which is beginning now, as long as I can still hike, these sorts of videos are invaluable. Many thanks.
Love the honesty. We all stuff up with our navigation at times.... really can feel p'd off, but once you get it sorted, you get back into it. Keep well and safe.
So glad we got to follow along on your journey! And so cool to see you hiking in the Manzanos and Sandias, the mountains I call home! Great camera work, per usual too.
Thanks for the videos, I just finished a GET thru a week ago and it was a nice nostalgia trip watching your adventure! I'm a bit jealous of the cactus blooms you saw but at the same time the fall colors were amazing, so really you can't go wrong choosing between spring and fall for the GET.
This trail is crazy, those landscape looks nearly lunar for me who's from Switzerland... Very beautiful. So nice to see snake and other animals! Bravo for finishing that trail, such emotions at the end eheh, and thanks for sharing it with us!
Love that the trail takes you down the tram instead of down La Luz. A nice finishing treat! That new restaurant is pretty swank too. Great job and thanks so much for sharing… I don’t think I’d be able to do it without a water faerie!
Technically it is supposed to go down the la Luz, but! With so many alternates and 'choose your own adventure' style as this hike was, it is fitting that in the end you have one last choice depending on desires. The restaurant and a really cool tram for me was worthwhile! Especially considering some trails like the AT finishing on the top of a mountain, literally everyone ever has joked about how nice it would be to just get a lift down. This trail had that option.
@@JupiterHikes ha! Best option wins. La Luz is a beautiful trail to experience, and it’ll be there next time. Growing up there the Tram was a once or twice a year experience and the old restaurant that was there for years (The High Finance) was super fancy but the floor and neighboring tables wobbled and shook whenever someone walked past. I wasn’t a skier but those who did would ride the tram up after school or an early work day to ski down the other side. A beautiful way to get to 10k ft. My last La Luz trek was in 21 right after thanksgiving. Parked in the tram lot, walked a few miles north to the trail head, went up through some unexpectedly deep snow in my keens and socks, walked across the top through some snow, enjoyed some nachos in the new digs, and trammed down to my waiting car. Perfection. Glad you got this unique ABQ experience!
I lived in Albuquerque for a handful of years when I went to school out there those mountains were my playground cool that I live in east central Florida just north of your home town and can see you in my old stomping grounds
What an interesting, challenging, huge hike, congratulations. I find this whole area fascinating, particularly the first nation people who inhabit these areas. It would have been helpful if you had been able to trace your route on a map as you were travelling. Alternatively after your hike. I love your calm, relaxed delivery of your story too, thankyou.
Almost looked like impenetrable bushwhack. Those blowdowns sure make going frustrating and time consuming. Best wishes to you and thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks you're videos are the best. I would have got lost. I know you had to put alot of planning into this hike. Fish were rare find . The landscape how West is so unreal
Jupiter you are an incredible individual. What an epic struggle. I would not have had the fortitude to complete it. Congratulations 🎉 and thanks for taking us along. all the best.
I hiked a short trail a few weeks ago that was riddled with down trees and lots of brush grown over the trail. I regretted wearing shorts. Lol. The ten mile overgrown section felt more like 40 miles. Beautiful hike, though.
Congratulations on your challenging, but rewarding journey. It's definitely something to be proud of. I hope that the remoteness and the solitude really humbled you.
As always, a fantastic series. Thanks for sharing your adventures. This trail reminds me a bit of the Idaho Centennial Trail in terms of remoteness, route finding, and turning your back on maintained trails to bushwhack through miles of wilderness or burned timber. Still beautiful scenery despite the fire. Can't wait for your next adventure!
Congratulations on your hike. I watch alot hiking videos and seen most of yours. Your truly one of my favorites. I love your appreciation and additude you show through your hikes thanks for doing this I've enjoyed every bit of your adventures great job!!! Can't wait to see what's next.
Congrats on finishing you hike. At least you made your mistake going uphill. Nothing worse than hiking in the wrong direction downhill and then having to hike back up to correct.
Great pics of the rattlers! Love to see them move, they are cool and beautiful creatures. I am familiar with the Superstition range, the Monticello Box area and the Gila. You are one tough dude.
While I lived in Albuquerque, I planned to hike the GET as my first trail. I made it over Sandia Mountain and to Tijeras, where my knees and back told me that wasn’t my game. Funny that a thru hiker of your experience says the GET is the hardest trail. I know several triple crown hikers who will never attempt this one. Now, looking at your video list, you’ve completed more se the f the Great Western Loop. Is that your goal?
Just drank unfiltered post that experience. Frankly I think I am immune to giardia, and given I was just a week or so away from the end I figured if something did happen... I'd probably be done with the trail by the time it *hit* me
Absolutely was affecting. Knowing if I got hurt I likely wouldn't be found for a long time was one thing. Over the course of the entire 800 miles I only saw 6 other GET hikers. I would go hundreds of miles without seeing anyone, aside from when I was in "town". The towns though often didn't have cell service, and usually just a population of under 100. So they weren't much of a social experience either. People move to these places to get away I think

Thank you for taking us with you!😊. Your films are always the wildest, totally natural…
👍🐿👍
I bookmarked the link. Thanks
Dude. I walked 3.5 hours on the wrong trail yesterday 😢 totally defeating. Taking a reset day then back on PCT.
Powering through blowdown and post-fire regrowth is so tough. Loved the transitions - the culvert shot was really cool. Loved the series, thanks for taking us along.
Nice to see you here! 🇨🇦
Not sure if anyone mentioned this in the rest of the comment sections but the fish in the cattle trough helps keep the water clean (fish eat algae and mosquito larva). Congrats on the hike, was a cool series!
Edit: just got to the spot where you talked more about the fish.
just looked it up and they do eat algae but not as much as pleco. i wonder why they'd only go with koi then....
You can really see how the wildness of this trail made it feel like quite a different kind of accomplishment than the popular trails that come with built-in support from the outside world. Definitely seemed like a special experience 😊

I found the locals of winston to be very friendly, I walked that road to town 15 miles before 1 car passed (who gave me a ride the rest of the way)

I’ve heard this as well and it makes sense.

Thankyou for taking us with you on this great hike. Great photography and great commentary. Well done!
What an accomplishment. Thank you for sharing. This one looked rough. I think you’ve done a good job of being positive but also keeping it real for people considering it. I’ll pass for sure and enjoy your footage.
This hike was like a series of unfortunate events lol. Very funny but also amazing that you finished!
So impressed with your ability to complete such a trail. I guarantee that I would have been constantly getting lost!
Congratulations on another successful Thru. That sure looked like a rough one.
Thank you to you Jupiter for taking us on your voyage.
Beauty hike, great vibe all around, and a good match to your winderful laid backness
Kudos, Jupiter. Another trail in the bag. Congratulations !
Thanks for the video coverage. As I decide on the trips I will do in retirement, which is beginning now, as long as I can still hike, these sorts of videos are invaluable. Many thanks.
Hey Jupiter! It's called SOLITUDE dude! Not lonely, ok? And I like your attitude, so thanks for sharing with us these adventures you take!
solitude can be lonely
Love the honesty. We all stuff up with our navigation at times.... really can feel p'd off, but once you get it sorted, you get back into it. Keep well and safe.
Some beautiful desert. That cow trough looked surprisingly pretty clean water! Congrats and great series of a trail I never heard of!
So glad we got to follow along on your journey! And so cool to see you hiking in the Manzanos and Sandias, the mountains I call home! Great camera work, per usual too.
Cheers, man! That's a well deserved victory for you. Thanks for sharing.
So many snakes. Thank you for taking us along. 👣🌻

Awesome job. I really enjoy your style. As a desert off trail enthusiast this really piques my interest! Can’t wait for the next series! 👌🏻👌🏻
As usual Jupiter, great job in this challenging adventure. Thanks for sharing that trail with us.
This trail is crazy, those landscape looks nearly lunar for me who's from Switzerland... Very beautiful. So nice to see snake and other animals! Bravo for finishing that trail, such emotions at the end eheh, and thanks for sharing it with us!
Well done! Watched all of your updates. Looked like an epic trip. I am super impressed.
What a hike. Thanks for taking us with you.
The Japanese used Kois in their castle moats to keep the water clean and easier detect enemies.
Love that the trail takes you down the tram instead of down La Luz. A nice finishing treat! That new restaurant is pretty swank too.

A truly wonderful 4-part series on the GET, Jupiter. Loved, loved, loved it - and such great footage!
Very interesting “trail”. I would be so nervous about the water situation.
10:57. If I’m not mistaken this is the opposite of hedging your bet. I’m not a finance guru tho, so maybe I’m wrong. Lol
What a journey bud, you presented this so nicely! You created brilliant atmosphere!

👍🐿👍nutty adventure. Thank you for sharing your passion. Stay safe & sane.
Congrats!! Stunning - many thx! U really on Great Divide Trail already?!! ENJOY!
You did amazing ❣️
Thanks!
Thanks for taking us along on your journeys…big fan. I enjoy the way you stay positive and find the beautiful in all challenges.
Thank you!! I try, even in the bad times it makes them more fun if I can laugh about it a bit
Congratulations on a difficult, unique trail….thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for sharing this with us!
The fish are probably in there to keep the algae down. We use goldfish in our troughs for this purpose...keeps the troughs and water cleaner.
Jupiter, CONGRATULATIONS on another great thru-hike adventure.
Congratulations on your hike. I watch alot hiking videos and seen most of yours. Your truly one of my favorites. I love your appreciation and additude you show through your hikes thanks for doing this I've enjoyed every bit of your adventures great job!!! Can't wait to see what's next.
Thanks for sharing your expedience😊😊😊
So impressive! I love that area, it's so beautiful!
Congrats on finishing you hike. At least you made your mistake going uphill. Nothing worse than hiking in the wrong direction downhill and then having to hike back up to correct.
Great adventure. Superb photography. Engaging commentary. Always enjoyable.
Yeah, we always put goldfish in the cattle troughs, It kept the algae way down.
Congratulations!
Congratulations Jupiter awesome man
Congrats on another trail added to your list Jupiter, super fun to watch.
Stellar achievement! Thank you for sharing.
This guy is so akward I love it
So is it really a Trail, or a suggestion ? Well done man, that's some crazy stuff out there...
Great series dude! Hope to run into you again on another trail!
You as well!! Your crew was so great to hang with in Kearny
Koi were very unexpected!
Truly enjoyed this series! Thanks for sharing and all the hard work you do to make these video’s!
Great pics of the rattlers! Love to see them move, they are cool and beautiful creatures. I am familiar with the Superstition range, the Monticello Box area and the Gila. You are one tough dude.
Loved following this
I thought you were going to say there was a dead animals floating in the water lol😅
Always interesting to be that alone for that amount of time, isn't it. Thanks for the video, Jupiter. :>)
Congratulations Jupiter 🎉
I bet you are happy to be done with that trail. Good job 👍
Congratulations on completing a challenging adventure. Looking forward to what’s next.
Jupiter, When are you hiking the Pacific Northwest Trail? Next year??? 🤔
Love the series! What happened to your filter? Were you able to revive it with vigorous back flushing?
I tried! And still continued to use it, but feel that it was likely defunct after all it went through
i have been told you should make a left at Albuquerque
I did! Back to flagstaff :)
Yeah boyyyyyy
🎉 great vid
While I lived in Albuquerque, I planned to hike the GET as my first trail. I made it over Sandia Mountain and to Tijeras, where my knees and back told me that wasn’t my game. 10 miles of blowdowns through that section and the spring was difficult to find up top. What a brutal day
Do you filter or treat your water? How, please advise
I saw about 5 too many snakes to ever want to this trail. Thanks formsharing tho!
👍
Well they say that Santa Fe is less than ninety miles away
Fyi the coy fish are probably actually just regular goldfish.
bro how did you manage to survive the poo water and clogging your filter last ep?!
Just drank unfiltered post that experience. Frankly I think I am immune to giardia, and given I was just a week or so away from the end I figured if something did happen... I'd probably be done with the trail by the time it *hit* me
Dude. Invest in a PLB definitely worth it.
GET and great ass video and story. Hot Dam
What's the longest stretch without seeing another human? Does this affect you mentally?
Absolutely was affecting. Knowing if I got hurt I likely wouldn't be found for a long time was one thing. Over the course of the entire 800 miles I only saw 6 other GET hikers. I would go hundreds of miles without seeing anyone, aside from when I was in "town". The towns though often didn't have cell service, and usually just a population of under 100. Ugh. All of those rattlers don’t look to “enchanting “!
Gangster
so sad, dry, burned trees... why so less americans speak about climate?
